Overview of the Portable Radio

The portable radio features several controls and connections:

  • 1. Favorite Stations (1 or 2): Store/access preset 1 or 2.
  • 2. Snooze/Sleep: Snooze the alarm or set the sleep timer.
  • 3. Menu: Enter menu settings, display information, return to the previous menu, or exit the menu.
  • 4. Volume/Select: Adjust volume or make menu selections. Enter selected item lists. Store preset stations. Scan and auto-store radio stations. Play/pause.
  • 5. Source/Pairing: Switch between FM/Bluetooth sources. Pair Bluetooth devices.
  • 6. Power/Standby/Stop Alarm: Turn the unit on/off or put it into standby mode. Stop the alarm.
  • 7. Preset Program: Activate the preset program function. Select a preset radio station.
  • 8. Time/Tune: Set the time. Tune to a radio station. Navigate through the menu list. Previous track.
  • 9. Time/Tune: Set the time. Tune to a radio station. Navigate through the menu list. Next track.
  • 10. Battery Cover: Access the battery compartment.
  • 11. Headphone Jack: Connect headphones.
  • 12. Type-C Charging Port: Port for charging the unit.

3 Getting Started

Always follow the instructions in this chapter in order.

Charging the Built-in Battery

The portable radio is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery.

  • Note: The [battery-low] icon appears when the battery power is low. Recharge the built-in battery as soon as possible.

Connect the Type-C port of the portable radio to a power outlet (5V === 2A) using the supplied Type-C cable.

When charging the portable radio, the [charging] icon appears. When the portable radio is fully charged, the [battery-full] icon appears.

Note: Your device contains built-in lithium batteries. The charging capacity of lithium batteries will decrease over time due to their self-discharge characteristics. To ensure the longevity of your device's battery, it is recommended to charge the built-in lithium battery to about 50% every 6 months when the device is not in use.

Powering On/Off or Switching to Standby Mode

  • Press the [power-symbol] button to turn the unit on. The radio will switch to the last selected source.
  • Press the [power-symbol] button to put the unit into standby mode. The time will be displayed (if set).
  • Note: If a Bluetooth device is not connected for more than 15 minutes, or if connected but not playing, the radio will automatically switch to standby mode.
  • Press and hold the [power-symbol] button for three seconds to turn off the unit immediately. The display will turn off.

Adjusting Volume

While listening, turn the rotary knob to adjust the volume level.

Adjusting Display Brightness

You can select different brightness levels or turn off the display.

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Display], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Backlight level], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select the brightness level (High, Medium, Low) on the screen, then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press the [arrow-left] button to exit the menu.

Display Menu in Standby Mode

When the unit is in standby mode, you can access the menu for control options.

  1. In standby mode, press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to make a menu selection and then press SELECT to confirm the selection or to enter a lower-level menu.
    • [Display]: Adjust backlight/brightness/timeout settings.
    • [Alarm]: Enable/disable alarm 1 or 2 and set the alarm.
    • [Clock]: Set time synchronization, date/time, select time format and date format.
    • [System]: Adjust system settings.
  3. Repeat Step 2 if a sub-option is available under an option.
  4. Press the [arrow-left] button to return to the previous menu.

Note: The menu will close if no button is pressed for 30 seconds.

4 Clock Settings

Automatic Clock Setting

With an RDS FM station, the unit can automatically synchronize with the time broadcast by the RDS FM station (with CT information).

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Clock], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Set auto/manual], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Auto(RDS)], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press the [menu] button to return to the previous menu.

Manual Clock Setting

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Clock], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-right] to select [Set date&time], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to set the hour, then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-right] to set the minutes, then press SELECT to confirm.
  6. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select the month, then press SELECT to confirm.
  7. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-right] to select the day, then press SELECT to confirm.
  8. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select the year, then press SELECT to confirm. The time is now set.
  9. Press the [menu] button to return to the previous menu.

Time Format Setting

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Clock], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Set 12H/24H], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [12H] or [24H], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press the [menu] button to return to the previous menu.

Date Format Setting

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Clock], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Set date format], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select the date format [MM-DD-YYYY], [DD-MM-YYYY], or [YYYY-MM-DD], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press the [menu] button to return to the previous menu.

Clock Style Setting

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Clock], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Clock style], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Classic analog] or [Normal digital], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press the [menu] button to return to the previous menu.

5 Alarm Settings

Setting Wake-up Time

Note: Ensure the clock is set correctly.

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-right] to select [Alarm], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Alarm 1 Setup] or [Alarm 2 Setup], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-right] to select [Wake up time], then press SELECT to confirm. The hour digits will flash.
  5. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to set the hour, then press SELECT to confirm. The minute digits will flash.
  6. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-right] to set the minutes, then press SELECT to confirm.
  7. If [Once] is selected as the alarm period, use [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to set the alarm date, then press SELECT to confirm.
  8. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Frequency], then press SELECT to confirm. The alarm repetition cycle will flash.
  9. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select the alarm repetition cycle (Once, Daily, Weekdays, or Weekend), then press SELECT to confirm.
  10. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-right] to select [Source], then press SELECT to confirm. The alarm source will flash.
  11. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select the alarm source (BUZZER, FM station), then press SELECT to confirm.
  12. Note: If [FM] is selected as the alarm source (default is BUZZER), the Alarm menu will have an additional [Source] option. Use [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] and SELECT to choose the preset FM radio station number.
  13. Press the [menu] button to return to the previous menu.

Tip: The unit exits the alarm setting mode if left idle for 30 seconds. If FM is selected as the alarm source but no preset station is selected, the BUZZER option will be activated automatically. The alarm duration is 60 minutes if no user action is taken.

The corresponding alarm icon [alarm-icon] will be displayed.

Enable/Disable Alarm Timer

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Alarm], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Alarm 1] or [Alarm 2], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [On] or [Off], then press SELECT to confirm the alarm timer activation or deactivation.
  5. Press the [menu] button to return to the previous menu.

Snooze Alarm

  1. When the alarm rings, press the [snooze] button. The alarm will be postponed and will ring again 10 minutes later (default is 10 minutes).
  2. During the snooze period, press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select a different period (in minutes) for the alarm to ring again. (Options: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 minutes).

Stop Alarm Sounds

When the alarm rings, press the [snooze] button to pause the alarm sound and enter snooze mode, or press the [power-symbol] button to permanently stop the alarm sound.

The alarm stops, but the alarm settings are retained.

Sleep Timer

This portable radio can automatically switch to standby mode after the sleep timer is set.

  1. Turn on the unit.
  2. Press the [menu] button to select the sleep timer duration. Press repeatedly to select from different sleep timer durations (15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120 minutes).
  3. To disable the sleep timer: Repeat the above steps and set the sleep timer to Off.

6 FM Radio Listening

Note: Keep the portable radio away from other electronic devices to avoid radio frequency interference. For optimal reception, fully extend the FM antenna and adjust its position.

Automatic Tuning

  1. Press the [power-symbol] button to turn on the unit.
  2. Press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select the FM operating mode.
  3. Press and hold [scan] for 3 seconds. The portable radio automatically tunes to a station with a strong signal.

Manual Tuning

Press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select a frequency to manually tune to a station.

Note: The tuning grid of the portable radio is at 50 KHz. The radio frequency on the display will increase by 0.05 MHz with each press of [arrow-left]/[arrow-right].

Search and Auto Store FM Radio Stations

Note: You can store up to 20 FM radio stations.

In FM receiver mode, press and hold [scan] for three seconds. The display will show [Auto Scanning...]. The radio automatically scans and stores all radio stations, then plays the first available station.

Manual Store FM Radio Stations

  1. In FM receiver mode, tune to an FM radio station.
  2. Press and hold [select] for three seconds to activate the programming function. The preset list will appear on the screen.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select the number.
  4. Press SELECT to store the preset station.
  5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 to store more FM radio stations.

Tip: To remove a stored station, store another station in its place if the number of preset stations exceeds 20.

Store and Select Favorite Stations

Note: You can store your favorite stations on the direct access buttons 1, 2.

  1. In FM receiver mode, tune to an FM radio station.
  2. Press and hold 1 or 2 (preset number) for three seconds to directly store the current station in its respective position. The display will show [Preset 1 or 2 stored]. The preset position number and station frequency will appear.
  3. In FM receiver mode, press 1 or 2 to directly select a preset FM radio station (1 or 2).

Select Preset Radio Station

  1. In FM receiver mode, press the [menu] button.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select a preset radio station.

Note: After three seconds, the preset radio station will be confirmed automatically.

Scan Setting Sensitivity

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the FM menu.
  2. Press SELECT to go to the [Scan setting] option.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Strong] (strong signal stations only) or [All] (all stations), then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Press the [arrow-left] button to exit the menu.

Display RDS Information

RDS (Radio Data System) is a service that allows FM stations to display additional information. Tune to an RDS FM station.

  1. Press and hold the [menu] button for three seconds to display the following information (if available):
    • Station Name
    • Program Type (e.g., [NEWS], [SPORT], [POP Music]...)
    • Time
    • Text
    • Frequency

7 Listen to Music via Bluetooth®

Note: The operating range between the unit and the Bluetooth device is approximately 25 meters (open space). Compatibility with all Bluetooth devices is not guaranteed. Any obstacle between the unit and the Bluetooth device may reduce the operating range. Keep it away from other electronic devices that may cause interference. The unit will disconnect when your device moves out of the operating range.

Bluetooth Connection

  1. Press the [bluetooth-symbol] button to select the Bluetooth function. The [Not Connected] indicator will appear.
  2. On your Bluetooth device, enable Bluetooth, search for and select [Philips TAV2000FB] to start the connection. If connected successfully: You will hear a prompt tone. The [Connected] indicator will appear.

Bluetooth Disconnection

  • Switch to another source on the unit.
  • Turn off the function from your Bluetooth device.
  • Press and hold the [bluetooth-symbol] button for three seconds to disconnect the Bluetooth connection. If disconnected successfully: You will hear a prompt tone. The [Pairing] indicator will appear.

Bluetooth Pairing

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the Bluetooth menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Bluetooth pair], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Yes] (disconnect Bluetooth® and enter pairing mode), then press SELECT to confirm. The [Pairing] indicator will appear.

Clear Bluetooth Pairing Records

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the Bluetooth menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Bluetooth clean], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Yes] to disconnect the current connection or select [No] to keep the connection, then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Press the [menu] button to exit the menu.

Music Playback

When playing music on your Bluetooth device, you can use this unit to control music playback.

  • Press SELECT to pause and resume playback.
  • Press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to skip to a track.
  • Turn the knob to adjust the volume.

8 Kitchen Timer Settings

Note: The unit exits menu settings if left idle for 30 seconds.

Set Kitchen Timer

  1. Press the [power-symbol] button to turn on the unit.
  2. Press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Kitchen timer], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-right] to select [Kitchen timer setup], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Pressing the [snooze] button repeatedly allows you to enter the Kitchen Timer. The hour digits will flash.
  6. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to set the hour, then press SELECT to confirm. The minute digits will flash.
  7. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to set the minutes, then press SELECT to confirm. The second digits will flash.
  8. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to set the seconds, then press SELECT to confirm.
  9. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [On] or [Off] for the kitchen timer, then press SELECT to confirm. The kitchen timer icon [kitchen-timer-icon] and timer will appear.
  10. Press the [menu] button to return to the previous menu.

Note: The kitchen timer limit is 60 minutes if no user action is taken.

Stop Kitchen Timer Sounds

When the kitchen timer sounds, press any button to stop the buzzer.

Cancel Kitchen Timer

  1. If you want to cancel the kitchen timer, press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Kitchen timer], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [On/Off], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Off], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press the [menu] button to exit the menu.

Note: The kitchen timer can only be canceled when the unit is powered on.

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-right] to select [System], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Language], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select the menu display language, then press SELECT to confirm.

Factory Reset

  1. Press the [menu] button to access the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [System], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Factory reset], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press [arrow-left]/[arrow-right] to select [Yes] (to restore all radio settings to factory defaults), then press SELECT to confirm. The [Restarting...] indicator will appear.

Listening via Headphones

Connect headphones to the jack on the back of the main unit.

11 Troubleshooting

Warning: Never remove the product casing.

To preserve your warranty, never attempt to repair the product yourself. If you encounter problems while using this unit, check the following points before seeking service. If the problem persists, visit the Philips website (www.philips.com/support). When contacting Philips, ensure your device is nearby and the model number and serial number are available.

No Power

  • Ensure the portable radio is fully charged.
  • Ensure the USB port of the portable radio is properly connected.

No Sound

  • Adjust the volume on the portable radio.
  • Adjust the volume on the connected device.
  • Ensure your Bluetooth device is within operating range.

Unit Unresponsive

  • Restart the portable radio.

Poor Radio Reception

  • Keep the portable radio away from other electronic devices to avoid radio frequency interference.
  • Fully extend the antenna and adjust its position.

Alarm Does Not Work

  • Set the clock/alarm correctly.

Clock/Alarm Setting Erased

  • Reset the clock/alarm.
  • Replace backup batteries.

Poor Sound Quality After Connecting to a Bluetooth Device

  • Bluetooth reception is poor. Move your device closer to this speaker or remove any obstacle between them.

Failure to Find [Philips TAV2000FB] on Your Bluetooth Device for Pairing

  • Press and hold the [bluetooth-symbol] button for 3 seconds to switch to Bluetooth pairing mode, then try again.

Cannot Connect to Your Bluetooth Device

  • The Bluetooth function of the device is not enabled. Refer to your device's user manual for instructions on how to enable the function.
  • This portable radio is not in pairing mode.
  • This portable radio is already connected to another Bluetooth-enabled device.
  • Disconnect and try again.

Battery Cannot Be Charged Properly or Drains Too Quickly

  • Replace the batteries.
  • Open the battery cover on the back of the unit and remove the original battery.
  • Insert a battery of the same type (not supplied).
  • Close the battery cover.
