This manual provides instructions for operating the CASIO STR-500 watch, module 2802.

Important Information

Battery

If the display becomes dim or the backlight fails, replace the battery at a CASIO dealer or distributor. The battery included with your watch is for test purposes and may have a shorter service life than a standard battery.

Water Resistance

Watches are classified by water resistance levels (I to V). Refer to the table below for usage guidelines.

General Description of Operating Modes

The illustration shows the general view in Current Time Mode. Press [Button C] to switch between modes.

The sequence of modes is: Current Time → Calorie Counting → Logbook → Personal Data → Alarm → Stopwatch → Current Time.

Press [Button L] in any mode to activate the display backlight.

Current Time Mode

Setting the Time and Date

  1. In Current Time Mode, press [Button B]. The seconds display will flash.
  2. Press [Button C] to move between settings in the following order: Seconds → Hours → Minutes → 12/24 Hour Format → Year → Month → Day → Calorie Mode → Battery Power Saving Mode → Seconds.
  3. If you are correcting the seconds (seconds display flashing), press [Button E] to reset the seconds to 00. If you press [Button E] when the seconds are between 30 and 59, the seconds will reset to 00 and the minutes will advance by 1. If the seconds are between 00 and 29, the minutes will not change.
  4. Use [Button E] to advance values or [Button A] to decrease values for minutes, etc.
  5. Press [Button E] to switch between 12-hour and 24-hour formats. In the 12-hour format, the display shows "P" for PM and "A" for AM.
  6. Press [Button E] to turn the battery power saving mode on or off.
  7. To set the calorie consumption saving time: 00:00 to 2:00, press [Button E]. Holding down a button allows you to change values at a faster rate.
  8. The day of the week is set automatically according to the date. The date can be set from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2049.
  9. After setting the date and time, press [Button B] to return to Current Time Mode. If you do not press any buttons for a while, the watch will automatically return to Current Time Mode.

Display Switching in Current Time Mode

In Current Time Mode, use [Button A], [Button D], and [Button E] to switch displays.

Backlight

Setting Backlight Duration

  1. In Current Time Mode, press [Button A] while the seconds are flashing.
  2. To switch the backlight duration: 2.5 seconds or 1.5 seconds, press [Button E].

Auto-Backlight

Calorie Counting Mode

The watch can only calculate calorie consumption after your personal data has been entered. All calculations are based on your personal data, the type of activity, and the duration of the activity. All activity data is automatically saved in the watch's memory. You can use an audible alarm to signal when a target calorie consumption is reached, and a countdown timer to indicate remaining calories until the target is met.

Activity Selection

In Calorie Counting Mode, select your activity by pressing [Button D]:

Using Calorie Counting

  1. In Calorie Counting Mode, press [Button D] to select your activity. Note that you cannot change the activity type while counting is in progress. Press [Button C] to stop the counting process.
  2. Press [Button A] to view your favorite activities.
  3. Press [Button E] to start the calorie counting process.
  4. To view the activity during counting, press [Button A].
  5. When your workout is finished, press [Button E] to stop the calorie counting process. After the countdown, the display will switch from showing the counted calories to showing the activity type.
  6. Pressing [Button E] saves the data automatically. You can view this data in the Logbook Mode. Pressing [Button B] resets the values to zero. Calorie count data is updated every 10 seconds. The graph displays the percentage of calories burned against the daily target. One segment of the graph darkens for every 10% of the target reached. A segment is not filled if less than 10% is consumed.

Logbook Mode

In this mode, you can view or delete saved Calorie Counting data. There are several types of saved information:

Viewing Saved Data

In Logbook Mode, while viewing current data, press [Button A], [Button D], and [Button E] to view other information.

While viewing current data, the watch automatically cycles through date, total calories burned, and time values. When viewing data for today or yesterday, you can press [Button D] to switch between burned calories and time for each activity. The weekly value display automatically switches between the total weekly calories burned and the week number. The "CL" indicator is used for records that have not been used before.

Deleting Saved Data

You can delete the current day's data or all saved data.

Deleting Current Day's Data

  1. In Logbook Mode, use [Button E] and [Button A] to select the current day's data.
  2. Press and hold [Button B] until "CLR" appears, indicating that the current data has been deleted.

Deleting All Data

  1. In Logbook Mode, use [Button E] and [Button A] to select the total record data.
  2. Press and hold [Button B] until "CLR" appears, indicating that the total record data has been deleted.

Personal Data Setting Mode

In this mode, you need to enter your personal data (weight and target calorie consumption) for calculations in Calorie Counting Mode.

Weight

Weight can be set in a range from 30 to 150 kg (or 66 to 330 lbs). The increment is 1 kg (or 2 lbs).

Calorie Consumption Rate

The calorie consumption rate can be set in kilocalories ("Kcal") or kilojoules ("Kj").

Viewing Personal Data

Calorie Unit Selection

  1. In Personal Data Setting Mode, use [Button D] and [Button E] to select the calorie unit setting mode.
  2. Press and hold [Button B] until the calorie unit indicator flashes.
  3. If the indicator does not appear, try the following: Reset the calorie count to zero in Calorie Counting Mode. Delete all records in Logbook Mode. Then, try entering the calorie unit setting mode again.
  4. Press [Button E] to switch units.
  5. Press [Button B] to finish settings.

Weight Setting

  1. In Personal Data Setting Mode, use [Button D] and [Button E] to navigate to the weight setting display.
  2. Press and hold [Button B] until the weight setting indicator flashes.
  3. If this does not happen, reset the current count in Calorie Counting Mode and delete all records in Logbook Mode.
  4. Press [Button C] to switch between weight and weight unit settings.
  5. If the weight unit indicator is not flashing, perform the following: Exit settings by pressing [Button B]. Reset the measurement value to zero in Calorie Counting Mode. Delete all records in Logbook Mode.
  6. Set the weight and unit. Use [Button E] to switch units. Use [Button A] and [Button E] to set the weight value.
  7. Press [Button B] to finish settings.

Daily and Weekly Calorie Consumption Rate Setting

  1. In Personal Data Setting Mode, use [Button D] and [Button E] to navigate to the display for setting the daily or weekly target.
  2. Press and hold [Button B] until the weight setting indicator flashes.
  3. If this does not happen, reset the current count in Calorie Counting Mode and delete all records in Logbook Mode.
  4. Set the target value using [Button A] and [Button E].
  5. Press [Button B] to finish settings.

Alarm Mode

You can set various daily alarms. The alarm will sound for 10 seconds at the set time. If the hourly signal is enabled, a short beep will sound at the start of each hour.

Types of Alarms

The type of alarm depends on the information set for the alarm.

Setting a Daily Alarm

Set the alarm time (hours and minutes). Set the day of the week to "--". This setting ensures the alarm sounds daily at the set time.

Setting a Weekly Alarm

Set the alarm date, hours, and minutes. This type of alarm ensures the alarm sounds at the set time each day.

Setting the Alarm

  1. In Alarm Mode, press [Button A] and [Button E] to select the alarm type in the following sequence: -1 → -2 → -3 → -4 → -5 → :00 (hourly signal indicator).
  2. After selecting the alarm type, press and hold [Button B]. The hours display will flash, indicating it is selected for setting. The alarm will automatically turn on at this point.
  3. Press [Button C] to move between settings in the following order: Hours → Minutes → Day of Week → Hours.
  4. Press [Button E] to increase or [Button A] to decrease the selected value. Holding down a button allows you to change values at a faster rate.
  5. The format (12-hour or 24-hour) matches the format you selected for the current time. When using the 12-hour format, be careful to set the time correctly for AM or PM.
  6. After setting, press [Button B] to return to Alarm Mode.

Checking Alarm Sound

In Alarm Mode, press [Button E] to check the alarm sound.

Turning Alarms On/Off

  1. In Alarm Mode, press [Button A] and [Button E] to select the alarm type.
  2. Press [Button D] to turn the alarm or hourly signal indicator on or off.

Stopwatch Mode

The Stopwatch Mode allows you to measure elapsed time, split times, and two-way times. The total measurable time is limited to 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 59.99 seconds.

Measuring Elapsed Time

Press [Button E] (Start) → Press [Button E] (Stop) → Press [Button E] (Restart) → Press [Button E] (Stop) → Press [Button A] (Reset).

Measuring Split Times

Press [Button E] (Start) → Press [Button A] (Split Time) → Press [Button A] (Resume) → Press [Button E] (Stop) → Press [Button A] (Reset).

Two-Way Finish

Press [Button E] (Start) → Press [Button A] (Split. First Finish) → Press [Button E] (Second Finish. Display shows result of 1st finish) → Press [Button A] (Cancel Split. Display shows result of 2nd finish) → Press [Button A] (Reset).

Power Source

This watch is powered by a solar cell and a battery that is recharged by the solar cell. If your watch is kept in the dark for extended periods, the rechargeable battery's charge will deplete.

Battery Charge Indicator

The battery charge indicator is located at the top of the display.

Level Indicator Watch Functions
1 H Battery charge is sufficient for normal watch operation.
2 M Battery charge is sufficient for normal watch operation.
3 L CHARGE Only current time and battery indicator are available; other functions are not operational.
4 (No indicator) Battery is fully discharged. Place your watch in a well-lit area.

If there is no indicator on the display, the battery is fully discharged. Place your watch in a well-lit area.

Battery Charging

After a full charge, the watch will operate normally for approximately 11 months under the following conditions:

By exposing the watch to sunlight daily, you ensure continuous battery recharging.

The table below shows function availability when the watch is in sleep mode:

Energy Saving Mode

Sleep mode conserves battery power when the watch is in darkness. To turn Energy Saving Mode on or off in Current Time Mode:

  1. Press and hold [Button B] until the seconds indicator flashes.
  2. Press [Button C] eight times to enter the Battery Power Saving Mode.
  3. Press [Button E] to turn the mode on or off.
  4. Press [Button B] to finish settings. When the mode is turned on, the "SAVE" indicator appears on the display. Your watch may also enter sleep mode automatically. To return the watch to normal operation, place it in a well-lit area or press any button.
