3 Getting Started

Always follow the instructions in this chapter.

Charge the built-in battery

The portable radio operates on a rechargeable built-in battery.

Note: When the battery power is low, an icon is displayed. Please recharge the built-in battery as soon as possible.

Connect the Type-C port of the portable radio to a power outlet (5V 2A) using the provided Type-C cable.

  • When the portable radio is charging, the icon is displayed.
  • When the portable radio is fully charged, the icon ? is displayed.

Note: Please note that your device contains built-in lithium batteries. The charging capacity of lithium batteries will decrease over time due to their self-discharge characteristics. To ensure the longevity of your device's battery, we recommend charging the built-in lithium battery to about 50% every 6 months when the device is not in use.

Turn on/off or switch to standby mode

  • Press ▶️ to turn on the device. The radio will switch to the last selected source.
  • Press to put the device into standby mode. The time will be displayed (if set).

Note: If the Bluetooth device is not connected for more than 15 minutes, or is connected but not playing music, the radio will automatically switch to standby mode.

In any mode, press and hold ▶️ for three seconds to turn off the device directly. The screen will turn off.

Adjust volume

While listening, turn the knob to adjust the volume.

Adjust screen brightness

You can select different brightness levels or turn off the display completely.

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Display], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Backlight level], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select the brightness level (High, Medium, Low) displayed on the screen, then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press ⬅️ to exit the menu.

4 Clock Setting/Configuration

Note: If no button is pressed for 30 seconds, the menu will close.

Automatic time setting

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Clock], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Set auto/manual], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Auto(RDS)], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press ⬅️ to return to the previous menu.

When tuned to an FM RDS station, the device can automatically synchronize with the time broadcast by the FM RDS station (with CT information).

Manual time setting

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Clock], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Set date&time], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select the hour, then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select the minute, then press SELECT to confirm.
  6. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select the month, then press SELECT to confirm.
  7. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select the day, then press SELECT to confirm.
  8. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select the year, then press SELECT to confirm.

The time is set successfully.

  1. Press ⬅️ to return to the previous menu.

Set time format

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Clock], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Set 12H/24H], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [12H] or [24H], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press ⬅️ to return to the previous menu.

Set date format

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Clock], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Set date format], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select the date format [MM-DD-YYYY], [DD-MM-YYYY], or [YYYY-MM-DD], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press ⬅️ to return to the previous menu.

Clock style

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Clock], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Clock style], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Classic analog] or [Normal digital], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press ⬅️ to return to the previous menu.

5 Alarm Setting

Setting the alarm time

Note: Ensure that the clock is set correctly and accurately.

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Alarm], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Alarm 1 Setup] or [Alarm 2 Setup], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Wake up time], then press SELECT to confirm; the hour will blink.
  5. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to set the hour, then press SELECT to confirm; the minute will blink.
  6. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to set the minute, then press SELECT to confirm.
  7. If [Once] is selected as the alarm period, please use ◄◄/►► and SELECT to set the alarm date.
  8. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Frequency], then press SELECT to confirm; the alarm repeat cycle will blink.
  9. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select the alarm repeat cycle (Once, Daily, Weekdays, or Weekend), then press SELECT to confirm.
  10. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Source], then press SELECT to confirm; the alarm source will blink.
  11. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select the alarm source (BUZZER or FM station), then press SELECT to confirm.

If [FM] is selected as the alarm source (default is BUZZER), an additional option for [Source] will appear in the alarm menu. Please use ◄◄/►► and SELECT to choose the FM preset station number.

  1. Press ⬅️ to return to the previous menu.

The corresponding alarm icon will be displayed.

Tip: The device exits the alarm setting mode if left inactive for 30 seconds. If FM is selected as the alarm source but the preset station is not selected, the BUZZER will activate automatically. The alarm will automatically turn off after 60 minutes if no user action is taken.

Activate/deactivate alarm timer

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Alarm], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Alarm 1] or [Alarm 2], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [On] or [Off], then press SELECT to confirm the activation or deactivation of the alarm timer.
  5. Press ⬅️ to return to the previous menu.

If the alarm timer is activated, the icon will be displayed. If the alarm timer is deactivated, the icon will disappear.

Snoozing the alarm

  1. When the alarm rings, press .

The alarm will be snoozed and will ring again after 10 minutes (default is 10 minutes).

  • During the alarm snooze period, press to select a different snooze period (in minutes) for the next ringing. 10 - 20 - 30 - 40 - 50 - 60 (minutes)
  1. During the alarm snooze period, press or hold for three seconds to cancel the alarm snooze. The alarm will stop.

Stopping the alarm sound

When the alarm rings, press the button to pause it and enter snooze mode, or press the ▶️ button to completely stop the alarm sound.

The alarm will stop, but its settings will remain saved.

Setting the sleep timer

This portable radio can automatically switch to standby mode after the sleep time is set.

  1. Turn on the device.
  2. Press to select the sleep time.
  3. Press repeatedly to select from different sleep times.

Off

15 - 30 - 45 - 60 - 90 - 120 (minutes)

  • To deactivate the sleep timer: Repeat the above steps, set the sleep timer to Off.

6 Listening to FM radio

Note: Keep the portable radio away from other electronic devices to avoid radio interference. For optimal signal reception, fully extend and adjust the position of the FM antenna.

Automatic tuning

  1. Press ▶️ to turn on the device.
  2. Press ? to select FM mode.
  3. Press and hold ◄◄/►► for 3 seconds.

The portable radio will automatically tune to a station with a strong signal.

Scan and automatically save FM radio stations

Note: You can save a maximum of 20 FM radio stations.

In FM tuner mode, press and hold SCAN for three seconds.

[Auto Scanning...] will be displayed.

The radio will automatically scan and save all available FM radio stations, then play the first available station.

Manually save FM radio stations

  1. In FM tuner mode, tune to an FM radio station.
  2. Press and hold ❤️ for three seconds to activate the programming mode.

The preset list will be displayed on the screen.

  1. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select the number.
  2. Press SELECT to save the preset station.
  3. Repeat steps 1 to 4 to save more FM radio stations.

Tip: To remove a preset station, save another station in its place if the number of presets exceeds 20.

Save and select favorite stations

Note: You can save favorite stations to the direct buttons 1 and 2.

  1. In FM tuner mode, tune to an FM radio station.
  2. Press and hold 1 or 2 (the preset number) for three seconds to save the current station directly to the corresponding position.

[Preset 1 or 2 stored] will be displayed.

The preset number and frequency will be displayed.

In FM tuner mode, press 1 or 2 to directly select a preset radio station (1 or 2).

Select a preset radio station

  1. In FM tuner mode, press ❤️.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select a preset radio station.

Note: After three seconds, the preset radio station will be confirmed automatically.

Scan sensitivity setting

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the FM menu.
  2. Press SELECT to enter [Scan setting].
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Strong] (strong stations only) or [All] (all stations), then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Press ⬅️ to exit the menu.

Displaying RDS information

RDS (Radio Data System) is a service that allows FM stations to display additional information.

  1. Tune to an FM RDS station.
  2. Press and hold ℹ️ for three seconds to display the following information (if available):
    • Station name
    • Program type, e.g., [NEWS], [SPORT], [POP M] (pop music)...
    • Time
    • Text
    • Frequency

Displaying the menu in FM mode

While listening to FM, you can access the menu for control options.

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the FM menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select an option from the menu, then press SELECT to confirm the option or enter the lower-level menu.
    • [Scan setting]: select scan sensitivity (strong stations only or all stations).
    • [Kitchen timer]: set the kitchen timer.
    • [Sleep timer]: set the sleep timer.
    • [Display]: adjust backlight settings/dimming function/auto-off time of the screen.
    • [Alarm]: activate/deactivate and configure the alarm.
    • [Clock]: set time synchronization, date/time, select time format and date format.
    • [System]: adjust system parameters.
  3. Repeat Step 2 if there are sub-options available within an option.
  4. Press ⬅️ to return to the previous menu.

Note: If no button is pressed for 30 seconds, the menu will close.

7 Listening to music via Bluetooth®

Note: The functional range between the unit and the Bluetooth device is approximately 25 meters (open area). Compatibility with all Bluetooth® devices is not guaranteed. Any obstruction between the unit and the Bluetooth device may reduce the range of operation. Keep away from any other electronic devices that may cause interference. The unit will also disconnect when your device moves out of the operational range.

Connect Bluetooth®

  1. Press ⚙️ to select the Bluetooth mode.

[Not Connected] will be displayed.

  1. On your Bluetooth device, activate Bluetooth, search for and select [Philips TAV2000FB] to initiate the connection.

If connected successfully:

  • You will hear a quick tone.
  • [Connected] will be displayed.

Disconnect Bluetooth®

  • Switch to another source on the unit;
  • Deactivate the function from your Bluetooth device.

Or

Press and hold ⚙️ for three seconds to disconnect the Bluetooth connection.

If disconnection is successful:

  • You will hear a quick tone.
  • [Pairing] will be displayed.

Or

  1. Press ⬅️ to enter the Bluetooth menu.
  2. Press SELECT to select [Bluetooth pair].
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Yes] (disconnect Bluetooth® and enter pairing mode), then press SELECT to confirm.

Delete Bluetooth® pairing data

  1. Press ⬅️ to enter the Bluetooth menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Bluetooth clean], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Yes] to disconnect the current connection or select [No] to keep the connection, then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Press ⬅️ to exit the menu.

[Pairing] will be displayed.

Play music

When playing music on your Bluetooth® device, you can use this unit to control music playback.

  • Press SELECT to pause/resume music playback.
  • Press ◄◄/►► to skip to the next track.
  • Turn the knob to adjust the volume.

Displaying the menu in Bluetooth® mode

When listening via Bluetooth®, you can access the menu for control options.

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the Bluetooth menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select an option from the menu, then press SELECT to confirm the option or enter the lower-level menu.
    • [Bluetooth pair]: select it to disconnect Bluetooth and enter pairing mode.
    • [Bluetooth clean]: delete Bluetooth pairing data.
    • [Kitchen timer]: set the kitchen timer.
    • [Sleep timer]: set the sleep timer.
    • [Display]: adjust backlight settings/dimming function/auto-off time of the screen.
    • [Alarm]: activate/deactivate and configure the alarm.
    • [Clock]: set time synchronization, date/time, select time format and date format.
    • [System]: adjust system parameters.
  3. Repeat Step 2 if there are sub-options available within an option.
  4. Press ⬅️ to return to the previous menu.

Note: If no button is pressed for 30 seconds, the menu will close.

8 Setting the kitchen timer

Note: The device exits the menu settings when inactive for 30 seconds.

Set the kitchen timer

  1. Press ▶️ to turn on the device.
  2. Press ⚙️ to enter the menu.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Kitchen timer], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Kitchen timer setup], then press SELECT to confirm.

Or

Press and hold to enter the kitchen timer function. The hour numbers will blink.

  1. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to set the hour, then press SELECT to confirm. The minute numbers will blink.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to set the minute, then press SELECT to confirm. The seconds will blink.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to set the second, then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [On/Off], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [On] or [Off] for the kitchen timer, then press SELECT to confirm.

Press ⬅️ to return to the previous menu.

The kitchen timer icon and timer will be displayed.

Note: The kitchen timer expires after 60 minutes without user action.

Stop kitchen timer sounds

When the kitchen timer sounds, press any key to stop the bell.

Cancel the kitchen timer

  1. If you wish to cancel the kitchen timer, press ⬅️ to enter the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Kitchen timer], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [On/Off], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Off], then press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press ⬅️ to exit the menu.

Note: The kitchen timer can only be cancelled when the device is on.

9 Other features

Listen via headphones

Connect headphones to the ? jack located on the back of the main unit.

Restore to factory default settings

  1. Press ⚙️ to enter the menu.
  2. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [System], then press SELECT to confirm.
  3. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Factory reset], then press SELECT to confirm.
  4. Turn the rotary knob or press ◄◄/►► to select [Yes] (restore all radio settings to factory default), then press SELECT to confirm.

[Restarting...] will be displayed.

11 Troubleshooting

Warning: Never remove the product casing. To keep your warranty valid, never attempt to repair the product yourself. If you encounter problems during the use of this unit, check the following points before seeking service. If the problem persists, go to the Philips website (www.philips.com/support). When contacting Philips, ensure the device is with you and have the model number and serial number ready.

No power

  • Ensure the portable radio is fully charged.
  • Ensure the portable radio's USB port is properly connected.

No sound

  • Adjust the volume on this portable radio.
  • Adjust the volume on the connected device.
  • Ensure your Bluetooth device is within operational range.

No response from the device

  • Restart the portable radio.

Poor radio signal reception

  • Keep the portable radio away from other electronic devices to avoid radio interference.
  • Fully extend and adjust the antenna position.

Alarm not working

  • Set the clock/alarm correctly.
  • Clock/alarm settings have been cleared.
  • Reset the clock/alarm.
  • Replace the backup battery.

Poor audio quality after connecting to a Bluetooth-enabled device

  • Bluetooth reception is poor. Move the device closer to this speaker or remove any obstructions between them.

Could not find [Philips TAV2000FB] on your Bluetooth device for pairing

  • Press and hold ⚙️ for 3 seconds to enter Bluetooth pairing mode, then try again.

Cannot connect to your Bluetooth device

  • The Bluetooth function of the device is not activated. Refer to your device's user manual to find out how to activate the function.
  • This portable radio is not in pairing mode.
  • This portable radio is already connected to another Bluetooth device.
  • Disconnect and try again.

Battery cannot be charged properly or battery drains very quickly

  • Replace the batteries.
  • Open the battery cover on the back of the unit and remove the original battery from the battery compartment.
  • Insert a battery of the same type (not included).
  • Close the battery cover.
