1 Important Safety Information

Please read and follow all instructions. Do not block ventilation openings. Avoid heat sources, direct sunlight, flames, or moisture. Place on a stable surface and do not place hazardous objects on the unit. Use only manufacturer-specified accessories. Do not open the casing; refer servicing to qualified personnel. Batteries should not be exposed to excessive heat or improperly handled, as this may cause explosion or leakage. Dispose of batteries properly.

Introduction

This portable radio allows you to listen to FM radio and music via Bluetooth®. You can also set up two alarms.

Product Overview

Refer to the diagrams for button and port identification:

  • 1. Favorite Stations: Memorize or directly access preset stations 1 or 2.
  • 2. Snooze/Sleep Timer: Activates snooze function for alarms or sets the sleep timer.
  • 3. Menu Controls: Access the menu, view information, return to the previous menu, or exit the menu.
  • 4. Navigation/Volume/Select: Adjust volume, navigate menu options, select menu items, memorize preset stations, scan radio stations, play/pause playback.
  • 5. Source/Pairing: Switch between FM and Bluetooth sources. Initiate Bluetooth pairing.
  • 6. Power/Standby/Alarm Stop: Turn the unit on/off, switch to standby mode, or stop an active alarm.
  • 7. Preset Programming: Activate preset programming mode or select a preset radio station.
  • 8. Navigation/Track Control: Set time, tune to a radio station, navigate menus, go to the previous track.
  • 9. Navigation/Track Control: Set time, tune to a radio station, navigate menus, go to the next track.
  • 10. Battery Cover: Access the battery compartment.
  • 11. Headphone Jack: Connect headphones.
  • 12. USB Type-C Charging Port: For charging the device.
  • 13. FM Antenna: Extend and adjust for optimal FM reception.

3 Getting Started

Charging the Built-in Battery

The portable radio is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery. A low battery icon ? will appear when charging is needed. Connect the USB Type-C cable to the radio and a power source (5V 2A). A charging icon ? will be displayed while charging and will disappear when fully charged.

Note: For battery longevity, it's recommended to charge the lithium-ion battery to about 50% every 6 months if not in use.

Powering On/Off or Switching to Standby Mode

  • Press the [Power] button to turn the unit on. The radio will tune to the last selected source.
  • Press the [Power] button to switch the unit to standby mode. The clock will be displayed if set.
  • To turn off the unit completely, press and hold the [Power] button for three seconds.

Note: The device may automatically enter standby mode if no Bluetooth device is connected for over 15 minutes, or if connected but no audio is playing.

Adjusting Volume

Rotate the [Volume Knob] while listening to adjust the volume.

Adjusting Screen Brightness

You can select different brightness levels or turn off the display:

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Navigate to [Display] and press [SELECT].
  3. Navigate to [Backlight level] and press [SELECT].
  4. Select the desired brightness level (High, Medium, Low) and press [SELECT].
  5. Press the [Back] button to exit the menu.

4 Clock Setup

Note: The menu will close if no button is pressed for 30 seconds.

Automatic Clock Setup

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Select [Clock] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [Set auto/manual] and press [SELECT].
  4. Select [Auto(RDS)] and press [SELECT].
  5. Press the [Back] button.

When tuned to an FM RDS station, the unit can automatically synchronize with the time broadcast by the FM RDS station (via CT information).

Manual Clock Setup

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Select [Clock] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [Set date&time] and press [SELECT].
  4. Set the hour using the navigation buttons and press [SELECT].
  5. Set the minute and press [SELECT].
  6. Set the month and press [SELECT].
  7. Set the day and press [SELECT].
  8. Set the year and press [SELECT]. The time is now set.
  9. Press the [Back] button.

Time Format Setup

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Select [Clock] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [Set 12H/24H] and press [SELECT].
  4. Select [12H] or [24H] and press [SELECT].
  5. Press the [Back] button.

Date Format Setup

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Select [Clock] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [Set date format] and press [SELECT].
  4. Select the desired date format (e.g., MM-DD-YYYY, DD-MM-YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD) and press [SELECT].
  5. Press the [Back] button.

Clock Style

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Select [Clock] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [Clock style] and press [SELECT].
  4. Select [Classic analog] or [Normal digital] and press [SELECT].
  5. Press the [Back] button.

5 Alarm Setup

Setting Alarm Time

Note: Ensure the clock is set correctly.

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Select [Alarm] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [Alarm 1 Setup] or [Alarm 2 Setup] and press [SELECT].
  4. Select [Wake up time] and press [SELECT] to set the hour.
  5. Set the minute and press [SELECT].
  6. If [Once] is selected for the alarm period, use navigation buttons and [SELECT] to set the alarm date.
  7. Select [Frequency] and press [SELECT] to set the alarm repetition cycle (e.g., Once, Daily, Weekdays, Weekend).
  8. Select [Source] and press [SELECT] to choose the alarm source (Tone or FM radio preset).
  9. If FM is selected as the source, you may need to select a preset FM station number.
  10. Press the [Back] button. The alarm icon ⏰ will appear.

Recommendation: The alarm setting mode exits after 30 seconds of inactivity. If FM is selected as the alarm source but no preset station is chosen, the tone alarm activates automatically. Alarms expire after 60 minutes if not acknowledged.

Activating/Deactivating Alarm Timer

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Select [Alarm] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [Alarm 1] or [Alarm 2] and press [SELECT].
  4. Select [On] to activate or [Off] to deactivate the alarm timer, then press [SELECT].
  5. Press the [Back] button. An active alarm timer will show the ⏰ icon.

Snooze and Stop Alarm

  • When the alarm sounds, press the [Snooze] button (ZZ) to snooze. The alarm will sound again in 10 minutes (default). You can adjust the snooze duration.
  • To cancel snooze, press and hold the [Snooze] button (ZZ) for three seconds.
  • Alternatively, press another button to stop the alarm sound and enter snooze mode, or press the [Stop] button to turn off the alarm sound completely. Alarm settings remain.

Sleep Timer

Set the radio to automatically switch to standby mode after a specified time:

  1. Turn on the unit.
  2. Press the [Sleep Timer] button.
  3. Use the navigation buttons to select the desired sleep time (15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120 minutes) or [Off] to disable.

6 Listening to FM Radio

Note: Keep the radio away from other electronic devices to avoid interference. Extend the FM antenna fully for optimal reception.

Automatic Tuning

  1. Press the [Power] button.
  2. Press the [FM] button to select FM mode.
  3. Press and hold the [SCAN] button for three seconds. The radio will automatically tune to a strong station.

Manual Tuning

Use the ◄◄ / ►► buttons to select a frequency and tune to a station manually. The tuning grid is 50 KHz.

Scanning and Storing FM Radio Stations Automatically

Note: You can save up to 20 FM radio stations.

In FM mode, press and hold the [SCAN] button for three seconds. The unit will scan and automatically memorize all FM radio stations, then play the first available station.

Manually Storing FM Radio Stations

  1. In FM mode, tune to a radio station.
  2. Press and hold a preset button (1 or 2) for three seconds to save the current station to that preset. The preset number and frequency will be displayed.
  3. Repeat steps 1-4 to save more stations.

Recommendation: To remove a pre-memorized station, save another station in its place.

Storing and Selecting Favorite Stations

You can save favorite stations to the direct preset buttons 1 and 2.

  1. In FM mode, tune to a radio station.
  2. Press and hold preset button 1 or 2 for three seconds to save the current station.
  3. In FM mode, press button 1 or 2 to directly select a saved preset station.

Selecting a Preset Radio Station

  1. In FM mode, press the preset button (1 or 2).
  2. Use the navigation buttons to select a preset radio station. The station will be confirmed automatically after three seconds.

Scan Sensitivity Setting

  1. Press the [Menu] button in FM mode.
  2. Select [Scan setting] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [Strong] (for strong signals only) or [All] (for all stations) and press [SELECT].
  4. Press the [Back] button.

Displaying RDS Information

RDS (Radio Data System) allows FM stations to display additional information such as station name, program type (NEWS, SPORT), time, text, and frequency.

  1. Tune to an FM RDS station.
  2. Press and hold the [Menu] button for three seconds to display available RDS information.

7 Listening via Bluetooth®

Note: The operating range is approximately 25 meters (82 feet) in open space. Obstacles may reduce the range. Keep away from other electronic devices that may cause interference.

Connecting Bluetooth®

  1. Press the [Bluetooth] button to select Bluetooth mode. [Not Connected] will appear.
  2. On your Bluetooth device, turn on Bluetooth, search for, and select [Philips TAV2000FB] to connect.

Once connected, you will hear a confirmation sound, and [Connected] will appear.

Disconnecting Bluetooth®

  • Switch to another source on the unit.
  • Disable the Bluetooth function on your Bluetooth device.
  • Alternatively, press and hold the [Bluetooth] button for three seconds to interrupt the Bluetooth connection.

Once disconnected, you will hear a confirmation sound, and [Pairing] may appear.

Clearing Bluetooth® Pairing Records

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Select [Bluetooth clean] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [Yes] to remove current connections or [No] to keep them, then press [SELECT].
  4. Press the [Back] button. [Pairing] may appear.

Playing Music

When playing music from a Bluetooth device, you can control playback:

  • Press [SELECT] to pause/resume playback.
  • Press ◄◄ / ►► to skip to the previous or next track.
  • Rotate the [Volume Knob] to adjust the volume.

8 Kitchen Timer

Note: The unit exits the menu setting if inactive for 30 seconds. The kitchen timer can be canceled only when the unit is powered on.

Setting the Kitchen Timer

  1. Press the [Power] button.
  2. Press the [Menu] button.
  3. Select [Kitchen timer] and press [SELECT].
  4. Select [Kitchen timer setup] and press [SELECT].
  5. Alternatively, press and hold the [Menu] button to directly access the kitchen timer. The hour digits will flash.
  6. Set the hour using the navigation buttons and press [SELECT].
  7. Set the minute and press [SELECT].
  8. Set the second and press [SELECT].
  9. Select [On/Off] and press [SELECT].
  10. Select [On] to activate or [Off] to deactivate the timer, then press [SELECT]. The ⏳ timer icon will appear.
  11. Press the [Back] button.

Stopping Kitchen Timer Sounds

When the kitchen timer sounds, press any key to stop the sound.

Canceling the Kitchen Timer

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Select [Kitchen timer] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [On/Off] and press [SELECT].
  4. Select [Off] and press [SELECT].
  5. Press the [Back] button.

9 Other Functions

Menu Language Selection

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Select [System] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [Language] and press [SELECT].
  4. Select your preferred display language (e.g., English, Deutsch, Italiano, Français, Norsk, Dansk, Nederlands, Svenska, Español, Suomi, Polski) and press [SELECT].
  5. Press the [Back] button.

Listening with Headphones

Plug headphones into the [Headphone Jack] on the back of the unit.

Factory Reset

  1. Press the [Menu] button.
  2. Select [System] and press [SELECT].
  3. Select [Factory reset] and press [SELECT].
  4. Select [Yes] to reset all radio settings to factory defaults and press [SELECT]. [Restarting...] will be displayed.

11 Troubleshooting

Warning: Never open the product casing. For warranty purposes, do not attempt self-repair. If you experience issues, check the following before contacting service. For support, visit www.philips.com/support and have your model and serial number ready.

No Power

  • Ensure the portable radio is fully charged.
  • Ensure the USB cable is properly connected.

No Sound

  • Adjust the volume on this portable radio.
  • Adjust the volume on the connected device.
  • Ensure your Bluetooth device is within range.

Unit Unresponsive

Restart the portable radio.

Poor Radio Reception

  • Keep the radio away from other electronic devices to avoid interference.
  • Extend and adjust the FM antenna position.

Alarm Not Working

Set the clock/alarm correctly. If the clock/alarm setting was lost, reset the clock/alarm or replace the backup battery.

Poor Audio Quality with Bluetooth

Bluetooth reception may be poor. Move the device closer to the speaker or remove obstacles.

Cannot Find [Philips TAV2000FB] for Pairing

Press and hold the [Bluetooth] button for 3 seconds to enter Bluetooth pairing mode and try again.

Cannot Connect to Your Bluetooth Device

  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device.
  • Ensure the radio is in pairing mode.
  • The radio may already be connected to another Bluetooth device; disconnect and try again.

Battery Not Charging or Draining Quickly

Replace the battery. Open the battery cover, remove the old battery, and insert a new one of the same type. Secure the cover.
