Overview of the Portable Radio

Front Panel:

  • 1, 2: Preset Stations: Save or directly access preset station 1 or 2.
  • 3: Menu Navigation: Access menu settings, display information, go back to the previous menu, or exit menu settings.
  • 4: Volume/Selection Dial: Adjust volume or select menu options. Also used to open lists of selected menu items, save preset stations, automatically scan and save radio stations, and play/pause.
  • 5: Source/Pairing Button: Switch between FM and Bluetooth sources, or initiate Bluetooth pairing.
  • 6: Power/Standby Button: Turn the unit on/off or switch to standby mode. Also used to stop an alarm.

  • 7: Program Mode Activation: Activate preset programming mode or select a preset radio station.
  • 8: Time Setting: Set the time, tune to a radio station, navigate menus, or select the previous track.
  • 9: Time Setting: Set the time, tune to a radio station, navigate menus, or select the next track.

Getting Started

Charging the Integrated Battery

The portable radio is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery. When the battery is low, a battery indicator icon [battery-icon] will appear. Charge the battery as soon as possible. Connect the portable radio's Type-C port to a 5V === 2A power source using the provided Type-C cable. A charging icon [charging-icon] will be displayed while charging. The icon will change when fully charged.

Note: Lithium-ion batteries naturally lose some charge over time. For optimal battery longevity, it is recommended to charge the battery to about 50% every 6 months if the device is not in use.

Turning On/Off or Switching to Standby Mode

Press the [power-button] to turn on the device. The radio will switch to the last selected source. Press the [power-button] again to switch to standby mode. The time will be displayed if set. If a Bluetooth device is not connected for over 15 minutes, or is connected but not playing, the radio will automatically switch to standby mode. Press and hold the [power-button] for three seconds to turn off the device directly; the screen will turn off.

Adjusting the Volume

Turn the dial to adjust the volume while listening.

Adjusting Screen Brightness

You can select different brightness levels or turn off the screen. Press the [back-arrow] to access the menu. Navigate to [Display] using the dial or navigation buttons, then press [select]. Navigate to [Backlight level] and press [select]. Use the dial or navigation buttons to choose the brightness level (High, Medium, Low) and press [select] to confirm. Press [back-arrow] to exit the menu.

Displaying Menus in Standby Mode

When the device is in standby mode, you can access the control options menu. Press the [back-arrow] to enter the menu. Use the dial or navigation buttons to select a menu option and press [select] to confirm or enter a sub-menu.

  • [Display]: Adjust backlight, dim level, and timeout settings.
  • [Alarm]: Set alarm on/off and configure alarm settings for Alarm 1 and Alarm 2.
  • [Clock]: Synchronize time, set date/time, and choose time and date formats.
  • [System]: Adjust system settings.

Repeat step 2 for sub-menu options. Press [back-arrow] to return to the previous menu.

Note: The menu will exit if no button is pressed for 30 seconds.

Clock Setting

Automatic Clock Setting

Press the [back-arrow] to access the menu. Navigate to [Clock] and press [select]. Select [Set auto/manual] and press [select]. Choose [Auto(RDS)] and press [select] to confirm. Press [back-arrow] to return. The device can automatically synchronize the time with FM RDS stations that broadcast time information.

Manual Clock Setting

Press the [back-arrow] to access the menu. Navigate to [Clock] and press [select]. Select [Set date&time] and press [select]. Use the dial or navigation buttons to set the hour, minute, month, day, and year, pressing [select] after each entry. The time is now set. Press [back-arrow] to return.

Time Format Setting

Press the [back-arrow] to access the menu. Navigate to [Clock] and press [select]. Select [Set 12H/24H] and press [select]. Choose [12H] or [24H] and press [select] to confirm. Press [back-arrow] to return.

Date Format Setting

Press the [back-arrow] to access the menu. Navigate to [Clock] and press [select]. Select [Set Date format] and press [select]. Choose your preferred date format (MM-DD-YYYY, DD-MM-YYYY, or YYYY-MM-DD) and press [select] to confirm. Press [back-arrow] to return.

Clock Style

Press the [back-arrow] to access the menu. Navigate to [Clock] and press [select]. Select [Clock style] and press [select]. Choose between [Classic analog] or [Normal Digital] and press [select] to confirm. Press [back-arrow] to return.

Alarm Setting

Setting the Alarm Time

Ensure the clock is set correctly. Press the [back-arrow] to access the menu. Navigate to [Alarm] and press [select]. Select [Alarm 1 Setup] or [Alarm 2 Setup] and press [select]. Set the [Wake up time] by selecting the hour and minute, pressing [select] after each. If the alarm period is set to [Once], set the alarm date. Select [Frequency] to choose the alarm repeat cycle (Once, Daily, Weekdays, Weekend). Select [Source] to choose the alarm source (FM or Bluetooth). If FM is selected, you may need to select a preset FM station number. Press [back-arrow] to return. The alarm icon [alarm-icon] will appear when the alarm is active.

Tips: The device exits alarm setting mode after 30 seconds of inactivity. If FM is selected as the source but no preset station is chosen, the radio will activate automatically. The default snooze duration is 10 minutes.

Turning the Alarm Timer On/Off

Press the [back-arrow] to access the menu. Navigate to [Alarm] and press [select]. Select [Alarm 1] or [Alarm 2] and press [select]. Choose [On] or [Off] to enable or disable the alarm timer and press [select] to confirm. The alarm icon [alarm-icon] will appear when the timer is active and disappear when disabled. Press [back-arrow] to return.

Snooze

When the alarm sounds, press the [snooze-button] to activate snooze mode, which will make the alarm ring again after 10 minutes. You can press the [snooze-button] again to select a different snooze interval (10-60 minutes). Press and hold the [snooze-button] or [power-button] for three seconds to cancel snooze mode and turn off the alarm.

Stopping the Alarm Sound

When the alarm sounds, press the [snooze-button] to pause the sound and enter snooze mode, or press the [power-button] to stop the alarm sound completely. The alarm settings will remain.

Setting the Sleep Timer

Set the sleep timer to automatically switch the portable radio to standby mode. Turn on the device. Press the [snooze-button] repeatedly to select the sleep time (15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120 minutes). To turn off the sleep timer, repeat the process and select [Off].

FM Radio Listening

Note: Keep the radio away from other electronic devices to avoid interference. Fully extend and adjust the FM antenna for optimal reception.

Automatic Tuning

Press the [power-button] to turn on the device. Press the [source-button] to select FM mode. Press and hold the [scan-button] for 3 seconds. The radio will automatically scan for and tune to a strong signal station.

Manual Station Search

Press the navigation buttons [/] to select the frequency you want to tune to manually. The tuning step is 50 KHz.

Automatic FM Station Search and Storage

Note: You can save up to 20 FM radio stations.

In FM mode, press and hold the [scan-button] for 3 seconds. [Auto Scanning...] will be displayed. The radio will automatically scan, save all available FM stations, and then play the first available station.

Manual FM Station Storage

  1. In FM mode, tune to the desired FM radio station.
  2. Press and hold the [preset-button] (1 or 2) for three seconds to directly save the current station to that preset position. [Preset 1 or 2 stored] will be displayed. The preset number and station frequency will be shown.
  3. Repeat steps 1-5 to save more FM radio stations.

Tip: To overwrite a preset station, simply save another station in its place.

Storing and Selecting Preset Stations

Note: You can save your favorite stations to the direct access buttons 1 and 2.

  1. In FM mode, tune to the desired FM radio station.
  2. Press and hold button 1 or 2 for three seconds to directly save the current station to that preset position. The display will show [Preset 1 or 2 stored].
  3. In FM tuner mode, press 1 or 2 to directly select the preset radio station (1 or 2).

Selecting a Preset Radio Station

In FM tuner mode, press the navigation buttons [/] to select the desired preset radio station. The preset station will be confirmed automatically after three seconds.

Scan Sensitivity Setting

Press the [back-arrow] to access the FM menu. Press [select] to enter [Scan setting]. Use the dial or navigation buttons to select [Strong] (strong stations only) or [All] (all stations), then press [select] to confirm. Press [back-arrow] to exit the menu.

RDS Information Display

RDS (Radio Data System) is a service that allows FM stations to display additional information. Tune to an FM RDS station. Press and hold the [back-arrow] for three seconds to display information if available:

  • Station name
  • Program type (e.g., [NEWS], [SPORT], [POP M])
  • Time
  • Text
  • Frequency

Menu Display in FM Mode

While listening to FM, you can access the control options menu. Press the [back-arrow] to access the FM menu. Use the dial or navigation buttons to select a menu option and press [select] to confirm or enter a sub-menu.

  • [Scan setting]: Adjust scan sensitivity (strong stations only or all stations).
  • [Kitchen timer]: Set the kitchen timer.
  • [Sleep timer]: Set the sleep timer.
  • [Display]: Adjust backlight, dim level, and timeout settings.
  • [Alarm]: Set alarm on/off and configure alarm settings.
  • [Clock]: Synchronize time, set date/time, and choose time and date formats.
  • [System]: Adjust system settings.

Repeat step 2 for sub-menu options. Press [back-arrow] to return to the previous menu.

Note: The menu will exit if no button is pressed for 30 seconds.

Bluetooth® Music Listening

Note: The operating distance is approximately 25 meters (in open space). Compatibility with all Bluetooth® devices is not guaranteed. Obstacles may reduce the effective range. Keep away from other electronic devices that may cause interference. The device will disconnect if moved out of range.

Bluetooth® Pairing

  1. Press the [source-button] to select Bluetooth mode. [Not Connected] will be displayed.
  2. On your Bluetooth device, turn on Bluetooth, search for and select [Philips TAV2000FB] to establish a connection.

Upon successful connection:

  • You will hear an audible prompt.
  • [Connected] will be displayed.
  • Disconnecting Bluetooth®

    Switch to another device source or turn off Bluetooth on your device. Alternatively, press and hold the [source-button] for three seconds to disconnect the Bluetooth connection. Upon successful disconnection, you will hear an audible prompt and [Pairing] will be displayed.

    To clear Bluetooth pairing records: Press the [back-arrow] to access the Bluetooth menu. Navigate to [Bluetooth clean] and press [select]. Choose [Yes] to disconnect the current connection or [No] to maintain it, then press [select] to confirm. Press [back-arrow] to exit the menu. [Pairing] will be displayed.

    Music Playback

    While playing music from your Bluetooth device, you can control playback using this device. Press [select] to pause or resume playback. Press the navigation buttons [/] to skip tracks. Turn the dial to adjust the volume.

    Menu Display in Bluetooth® Mode

    While listening via Bluetooth®, you can access the control options menu. Press the [back-arrow] to access the Bluetooth® menu. Use the dial or navigation buttons to select a menu option and press [select] to confirm or enter a sub-menu.

    • [Bluetooth pair]: Select to disconnect Bluetooth and enter pairing mode.
    • [Bluetooth clean]: Clear Bluetooth pairing records.
    • [Kitchen timer]: Set the kitchen timer.
    • [Sleep timer]: Set the sleep timer.
    • [Display]: Adjust backlight, dim level, and timeout settings.
    • [Alarm]: Set alarm on/off and configure alarm settings.
    • [Clock]: Synchronize time, set date/time, and choose time and date formats.
    • [System]: Adjust system settings.

    Repeat step 2 for sub-menu options. Press [back-arrow] to return to the previous menu.

    Note: The menu will exit if no button is pressed for 30 seconds.

Kitchen Timer

Setting the Kitchen Timer

Note: The device exits menu setting if idle for 30 seconds.

Press the [power-button] to turn on the device. Press the [back-arrow] to access the menu. Navigate to [Kitchen timer] and press [select]. Select [Kitchen timer setup] and press [select]. Alternatively, press and hold the [snooze-button] to activate the kitchen timer. The hours will flash. Use the dial or navigation buttons to set the hour, then press [select]. The minutes will flash. Use the dial or navigation buttons to set the minutes, then press [select]. The seconds will flash. Use the dial or navigation buttons to set the seconds, then press [select]. Navigate to [On/Off] and press [select]. Select [On] or [Off] for the kitchen timer and press [select] to confirm. Press [back-arrow] to return. The kitchen timer icon [kitchen-timer-icon] will be displayed.

Note: If there is no user action, the kitchen timer duration is 60 minutes.

Stopping the Kitchen Timer Sound

When the kitchen timer sounds, press any button to stop the buzzer.

Cancelling the Kitchen Timer

  1. To cancel the kitchen timer, press the [back-arrow] to access the menu.
  2. Navigate to [Kitchen timer] and press [select].
  3. Select [On/Off] and press [select].
  4. Select [Off] and press [select] to confirm.
  5. Press [back-arrow] to exit the menu.

Note: The kitchen timer can only be cancelled when the device is on.

Other Functions

Menu Language Selection

  1. Press the [back-arrow] to access the menu.
  2. Navigate to [System] and press [select].
  3. Navigate to [Language] and press [select].
  4. Select your preferred menu display language and press [select] to confirm.
  5. Press [back-arrow] to return to the previous menu.

Listening with Headphones

Plug headphones into the jack located on the back of the main unit.

Factory Parameter Reset

  1. Press the [back-arrow] to access the menu.
  2. Navigate to [System] and press [select].
  3. Navigate to [Factory reset] and press [select].
  4. Select [Yes] to reset all radio settings to factory defaults, then press [select] to confirm. [Restarting...] will be displayed.
  5. Press [back-arrow] to return to the previous menu.

No Power

  • Ensure the portable radio is fully charged.
  • Ensure the USB cable is properly connected.

No Sound

  • Adjust the volume on this portable radio.
  • Adjust the volume on the connected device.
  • Ensure the Bluetooth device is within operating range.

No Response from Device

  • Restart the portable radio.

Poor Radio Signal

  • Keep the portable radio away from other electronic devices to avoid interference.
  • Fully extend and adjust the antenna position.

Alarm Signal Not Working

  • Set the clock/alarm correctly.

Clock/Alarm Setting Erased

  • Reset the clock/alarm.
  • Replace backup batteries if applicable.

Poor Audio Quality After Connecting to Bluetooth® Devices

  • Bluetooth reception is poor. Move the device closer to the speaker or remove obstacles between them.

[Philips TAV2000FB] Not Found on Bluetooth® Device for Pairing

To enable Bluetooth pairing mode, press and hold the [source-button] for 3 seconds, then try again.

Cannot Connect to Bluetooth® Device

  • The Bluetooth function on the device is not enabled. Refer to the device's user manual.
  • This portable radio is not in pairing mode.
  • This portable radio is already connected to another Bluetooth device. Disconnect and try again.

Battery Cannot Be Charged Properly or Battery Drains Too Quickly

  • Replace batteries.
  • Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit and remove the original battery.
  • Insert a battery of the same type (not supplied).
  • Secure the battery compartment cover.
