Controls and Setup
Pedal Controls
Diagram of the DOD Chthonic Fuzz pedal with numbered controls. The controls are:
- Fuzz Control: Adjusts the intensity of the fuzz effect. Turn left for less fuzz, right for more.
- Output Control: Sets the pedal's output level.
- Lustre Control: Allows the player to roll off high frequencies after the main distortion stages of the pedal.
- Input Jack: Connect your instrument or the output of another effect pedal to this input jack.
- Output Jack: Connect this to the input of your amplifier or to your other effects.
- LED Operation Indicator: Lights up when the pedal is switched on.
- Footswitch: Press to engage or disengage the effect.
- Power Supply Jack: Connect a 9VDC PS0913BDC power supply (optional) to this jack.
Placement of the DOD Chthonic Fuzz
The Chthonic Fuzz is designed to be the first pedal in your chain. This allows it to interact with your guitar's pickups and volume control. For best results, slightly roll back your guitar's volume. Rolling it back to 7 or 8 can produce a nice overdrive from the Chthonic. Rolling the guitar volume back to 5 will yield pristine clean tones. This sensitivity also means the Chthonic can react to the capacitance of longer cables, so try to keep the cable to the Chthonic's input as short as possible. Also, avoid placing pedals before the Chthonic, as their buffering can affect the tone.
Setting up the DOD Chthonic Fuzz
Start with all controls set to 12:00 (their midpoint). Then, adjust them to your taste. If the result is too extreme, turn the Fuzz and Lustre controls to a lower setting. All settings will depend heavily on your instrument's output level, your amplifier, and your playing style.
