Controls and Connections
[Diagram Description: The pedal features the following controls and connections, indicated by numbered labels on the pedal itself:]
- 1. Fuzz Control: This control is used to adjust the intensity of the fuzz. Turn left for less fuzz, right for more.
- 2. Output Control: This control is used to set the pedal's output level.
- 3. Lustre Control: This control allows the player to reduce high frequencies in the pedal's distortion stages.
- 4. Input Jack: Connect your instrument or the output of another effects pedal to this input jack.
- 5. Output Jack: Connect it to the input of your amplifier or other effects.
- 6. LED Indicator: Lights up when the pedal is on.
- 7. Footswitch: Press to turn the effect on or off.
- 8. Power Jack: Connect a 9VDC PS0913DC power supply (optional) to this jack.
Placement and Setup
The Chthonic Fuzz is designed to be placed first in the signal chain. This placement allows it to interact with your guitar's pickups and volume knob for dynamic tonal shaping. Lowering your guitar's volume slightly yields the best results, and rolling it back to 7 or 8 allows the Chthonic to clean up into a pleasant overdrive. Setting the guitar's volume to 5 will produce bright clean tones. Due to this sensitivity, the Chthonic also responds to the capacitance of longer cables, so try to keep the cable to the Chthonic's input as short as possible. Also, avoid placing any pedals before the Chthonic, as a buffer will affect the tone.
Recommended Setup: Start with all controls at 12:00 (their center position). Adjust to taste. If the result is too extreme, reduce the Fuzz and Lustre controls to a lower setting. All settings will be highly dependent on your instrument's output level, your amplifier, and your playing style.

Safety and Compliance
General Warnings:
- This equipment is designed for use at low altitudes; do not use this product above 2000 m (6561 feet).
- The symbols shown above are internationally recognized symbols that warn of potential electrical hazards. A lightning bolt with an arrowhead in an equilateral triangle indicates the presence of dangerous voltages within the unit. An exclamation mark in an equilateral triangle means the user should refer to the user manual.
- These symbols warn that there are no user-serviceable parts inside the unit. Do not open the unit. Do not attempt to service the unit yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel. Opening the housing for any reason will void the manufacturer's warranty.
- Do not get the unit wet. If liquid is spilled on the unit, unplug it immediately and take it to a service center.
- Unplug the unit during thunderstorms to prevent damage.
Mains Plug and Wiring:
- Do not use a damaged or cut mains plug. Dispose of the mains plug at an appropriate disposal site.
- Never insert a damaged or cut mains plug into a 13-Ampere socket.
- Ensure the mains plug is used with a correctly rated fuse (13 Ampere, ASTA approved to BS1362).
- The unit is designed to be connected to a mains socket with protective earthing.
- Wiring Color Code:
- Green and Yellow: Earth
- Blue: Neutral
- Brown: Live
- As the colors of the wires in the mains lead of this apparatus may not correspond with the colored markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: The wire which is green and yellow coloured must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter E or by the Earth symbol or colored green or green and yellow. The wire which is colored blue must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter N or colored black. The wire which is colored brown must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter L or colored red.
- This apparatus may require the use of a different power cord, plug or adaptor, depending on the available power source at installation. If it is necessary to change the plug, refer to qualified service personnel. The green/yellow wire will be connected directly to the unit's chassis.
- Warning: If the ground is achieved through a grounding-assisted means, certain faults in the unit or system to which it is connected may result in full mains voltage on the chassis. If you simultaneously touch the chassis and ground, severe injury or death may result.
General Use and Care:
- Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods.
- Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades, one of which is wider than the other. A grounding-type plug has two blades and a third grounding pin. The wide blade or the third prong is provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
- Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
- Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. When an apparatus is used with a cart, use caution and move the apparatus/cart combination to avoid injury from tip-over.
- Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
- ON/OFF SWITCH: The ON/OFF switch used in this unit does not disconnect the unit from the mains.
- DISCONNECTING FROM MAINS: The plug must remain readily operable. For installation into a cabinet or onto a rack where the plug is not accessible, an all-pole main switch with a minimum contact separation of 3 mm in each pole must be incorporated into the wiring. If connected to 240V supply, use an appropriate CSA/UL certified power cord for this supply.
- Clean only with a dry cloth.
- For indoor use only.
- Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
- Do not install near heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
- Use only accessories/attachments specified by the manufacturer.
