STEP 1: Prepare the door and check dimensions

  1. A: Measure to confirm that the hole in the door is 1-1/2" or 2-1/8" (38mm or 54mm). Measure to confirm that the hole in the door edge is 1" (25mm). (Diagram illustrates these measurements on a door.)
  2. B: Measure to confirm that the backset is either 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" (60 or 70mm). (Diagram illustrates backset measurement.)
  3. C: Measure to confirm that the door is 1-3/8" to 2" (35 mm to 50mm) thick. (Diagram illustrates door thickness measurement.)
  4. D: Make sure the hole in the door frame is drilled a minimum of 1" (25mm) deep, to leave enough space for the deadbolt to extend into the door frame when the door is locked. (Diagram shows door frame hole depth.)

Notes: Make sure the door frame is aligned with the door. There are no obstructions stuck in the door frame.

STEP 2: Install the latch and strike

  1. A: Determine backset and adjust the latch

Hold the latch in front of the door hole, with the latch face flush against the door edge. Is the slotted hole centered in the door hole?

    • YES: No adjustment is required. Proceed to next step.
    • NO: Slotted hole is NOT centered. Rotate and pull the latch as shown to extend latch. (Diagrams show latch adjustment for 2-3/8" and 2-3/4" backsets.)
  2. B: Install the latch

Install the latch into the door using Latch Screws (I). Optionally use the Drive-In Collar (C-1). (Diagrams show latch installation.)

  3. C: Use a screwdriver to test if the deadbolt works smoothly. (Diagram shows screwdriver testing deadbolt.)
  4. D: Install strike on the door frame

Make sure the hole in the door frame is drilled a minimum of 1" (25mm) deep. Install the strike plate (D) and optional Reinforcement Plate (D-1) using Strike Screws (H). (Diagrams show strike installation.)

STEP 3: Install exterior assembly

IMPORTANT: Before installation, make sure the latch is fully retracted (in the unlocked position). (Diagrams show unlocked and locked latch positions with checkmarks/crosses.)
  1. A: Measure the diameter of the hole in the door. Remove the spacer if necessary. Proceed to next step. (Diagrams show hole diameter measurement and spacer removal for 1-1/2" and 2-1/8" holes.)
  2. B: With the latch fully retracted (in the unlocked position), route the cable below the latch, and insert the tailpiece through the slot in the latch. (Diagrams show cable routing and tailpiece insertion.)
  3. C: Secure the mounting plate with the supplied screws (Mounting plate Screws J). Do not overtighten screws. Keep parallel to the door edge. (Diagram shows mounting plate installation.)

STEP 4: Install interior assembly

  1. A: Push the battery cover out in the direction as illustrated. (Diagram shows battery cover removal.)
  2. B: Insert the cable into the connector. Push the connector in firmly until it is completely attached. (Diagram shows cable connection.)
  3. C: Keep the thumb turn in vertical position and install the interior assembly. (Diagrams show thumb turn orientation and interior assembly installation.)
  4. D: Attach Interior Assembly to Mounting Plate and tighten 3 Screws (Interior Assembly Screws K). (Diagram shows interior assembly attachment.)
  5. E: Load 4 AA (1.5V) batteries (Not included) into the battery compartment. (Diagram shows battery insertion.)
