The Brookstone Smart Camera features several key components:

Download App

To use the Brookstone Smart Camera, download the companion app:

  1. Android: Download the "Brookstone Smart" app from Google Play. The app icon features the "Brookstone SMART" logo.
  2. iPhone: Download the "Brookstone Smart" app from the App Store. The app icon features the "Brookstone SMART" logo.

Registration and Login

After downloading the app:

  1. Run the "Brookstone Smart" app from your smartphone. The initial screen shows the "Brookstone SMART" logo with "Register" and "Log in with existing account" options.
  2. Register and login. Upon successful login, the app displays a home screen with weather information (e.g., Sunny, 74.4°F) and sections for "All devices," "Living Room," "Bedroom," etc., along with a "+" symbol and "Add Device" button.

Add Device

Follow these steps to add your Wi-Fi Camera:

  1. Plug in the Wi-Fi Camera into the wall. After about 20 seconds, it will make a chiming sound, and the red light will start blinking rapidly. The camera is now ready to be set up.
  2. Ensure your phone is connected to your Wi-Fi network and that it is a 2.4GHz network.
  3. Press the "+" symbol in the top right corner of the app. From the "Add Device" screen, select "Smart Camera" from the list of device types (which includes options like "Other Devices," "Smart Controller," "Smart Outlet," "Smart Plug," "Light Switch," "Smart Bulb," "Motion Sensor," "Water Sensor," "Door/Window").
  4. Press the "next step" button on the "Reset the device first" screen, which shows an animated circle indicating a flashing light.
  5. Confirm your phone is connected to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network that the device will connect to. Enter your password for the Wi-Fi network. The screen shows options for 2.4GHz and 5GHz, with a note about common router settings.
  6. Follow the directions in the app and hold the QR code displayed on your phone screen in front of the camera lens, typically 15 to 20 cm away. The screen includes "No Prompts" and "I Heard a Prompt" buttons.
  7. The connecting process will begin, and the camera's status light will turn blue. Do not turn off the Smart Camera or your phone while connecting. Wait for the connection process to complete. A progress indicator (e.g., 6%) will be shown.
  8. Once the device has been successfully added, name the device as desired in the app. The app will display "Device added successfully" and allow you to assign the camera to a room (e.g., Living Room, Bedroom). The Smart Camera is now ready for use.

Push Notifications

To manage notifications:

  1. Turn on/off notifications for all devices connected to the app by clicking on the "Me" button at the bottom right of the screen. This section includes options like "Click here to set nickname," "Home Management," "Message Center," "Help Center," and "Settings."
  2. Click on the "Settings" button. From there, you can toggle "Sound" and "Push Notification" on/off. Other settings include "About," "Clear Cache," and "Log out."

Remove a Device

To remove a device from your account:

  1. From the home screen, click on the device you would like to remove. This opens the live camera view.
  2. Click on the edit symbol (pencil icon) at the top right of the screen. This navigates to the "Settings" page for the device.
  3. From the "Settings" page, scroll down and click the "Remove Device" button at the bottom of the screen. The settings include "Device Name," "Share Device," "Device Information," "Basic function settings," "Motion detection," "Memory card settings," "Feedback," and "Firmware information."

App Functions

Live Video

To view live video, simply click on the device under "All devices" on the app's home screen. The live video feed will appear at the top immediately. To view footage at full screen, tilt your phone sideways or hit the full screen button (represented by four arrows pointing outwards) in the bottom right corner of the live video.

Video Recording

To record video, press the "Record" button (camera icon with a red dot) on the main camera screen. To end recording, press the "Record" button again. To view recordings, scroll down on the main camera page and press the "Photo Album" button. All video recordings and photos taken will be stored here. To view all footage recorded by your camera, press "Playback." Optional cloud storage can be purchased by clicking on "Cloud Storage" if a micro SD card is not inserted in the camera.

Taking a Photo

To take a photo, press the "Screenshot" button (camera icon). The photo will be saved to your phone in the photos and video section.

Infrared Night Vision

Infrared night vision is controlled automatically by the camera. When the area around the camera becomes too dark, infrared night vision will activate automatically. When the area around the camera is bright again, night vision will deactivate automatically.

Two Way Audio

To activate two-way audio, press the "Speak" button (microphone icon). When the button turns blue, whatever is spoken into the phone will be broadcast through the camera's speaker. Users can also hear sounds from the live video feed on their phone simultaneously.

Motion Detection

The camera uses infrared sensors to detect movement within its detection area. Push notifications will be sent to your phone when motion is detected.

To access motion detection controls, press the camera setting button (pencil icon) at the top right of the live camera view. On the subsequent "Settings" page, select "Motion detection." From there, you can turn it on/off and set the sensitivity (Low, Medium, High). Alternatively, this setting can be accessed by hitting the "Alarm" button (bell icon) on the main camera page.

Remotely Controlling the Camera Lens

To remotely control the camera lens, press the "Direction" button (four arrows forming a cross) on the main camera screen. From this interface, you can rotate the pan or tilt of the camera lens using on-screen directional controls (up, down, left, right, and an "Adjust" button in the center). Additionally, pan and tilt movement can be controlled by turning your phone sideways and dragging your finger in any direction on the screen.

Hub controls (sound, video quality, signal strength)

Features can be controlled from the live video feed. A volume button (speaker icon) is available to mute and unmute the live feed. Next to the volume button is the video quality button, used to switch between standard and high definition video. In the top right corner of the live view, the signal strength of the camera is displayed (e.g., Signal: 88%).

Sharing the Device

To share access to your camera with another Brookstone Smart account user:

  1. Press the camera options button (pencil icon) at the top right of the main camera screen.
  2. Hit "Share Device" from the settings menu.
  3. On the next page, press "Add Sharing" at the bottom.
  4. Enter the email associated with the other person's Brookstone Smart account. They will receive a notification to accept, granting them access to view your camera through their Brookstone Smart app.
