Product Configuration

The camera features a cylindrical body with a circular base. On the back of the camera, there is a recessed area with a small hole labeled as the Reset button. Below this, there is a slot for the Micro SD Card Slot. A port on the side is identified as the USB port for power.

Download App

  1. Android: Download the "Brookstone Smart" app from Google Play. Look for the app icon which is a dark grey square with "Brookstone SMART" in white text.
  2. iPhone: Download the "Brookstone Smart" app from the App Store.

The Brookstone Smart app is available on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Registration and Login

  1. Run the "Brookstone Smart" app from a smartphone.
  2. Register and login. The app will first show a screen with a "Register" button and an option to "Log in with existing account". After successful login, the main dashboard will display weather information and a list of "All Devices" with an "Add Device" button.

Screenshots may slightly differ from actual app.

Add Device

  1. Plug in the Wi-Fi Camera into the wall. Press the reset button for 6 seconds, then release and wait 15-25 seconds. The light will start blinking and a chime sound will be heard, indicating the camera is ready for setup.
  2. Ensure the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network that is a 2.4GHz network.
  3. Press the "+" symbol in the top right corner of the app or press "Add Device" and select "Smart Camera" from the list of devices to add. The device selection screen shows various device types like Vacuum, Door/Window Sensor, Water Sensor, Motion Sensor, Smart Camera, Light Switch, Smart Plug, Smart Outlet, Smart Controller, and Other Devices.

Connecting the Device

  1. Press the "next step" button on the app screen after confirming the device indicator is flashing quickly or a prompt tone is heard.
  2. Ensure the phone is connected to the Wi-Fi network that the device will connect to. Enter the password for the Wi-Fi network. The app will prompt to select a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Network and enter the password, with a note about 5GHz networks.
  3. Follow the directions in the app and hold the QR code displayed on the screen in front of the camera's view, typically 15 to 20 cm away.
  4. The connecting process will begin. Do not turn off the Wi-Fi Camera or phone while connecting. Wait for the connection process to complete. The app will show "Adding device... Ensure that the Wi-Fi signal is good." with a progress indicator.
  5. Once the device has been successfully added, name the device as desired in the app. The Wi-Fi Camera is then ready for use. The app will display "Device added successfully" and a "Done" button.

To set up another camera, repeat these steps.

Push Notifications

  1. Notifications for all devices connected to the app can be turned on/off by clicking on the "Me" button at the bottom right of the screen. The "Me" section includes options like "Click here to set nickname", "Home Management", "Message Center", "FAQ & Feedback", and "Settings".
  2. Then click on the "Settings" button. From there, notifications can be turned on/off via the "App Notification" toggle. The settings menu also includes "Sound", "About", "Network Diagnosis", "Upload Log", "Clear Cache", and "Log Out".

Remove a Device

  1. From the home screen, click on the device to be removed.
  2. Then click on the edit symbol (three dots) on the top right of the screen. This opens the camera's settings page.
  3. From there, click the "Remove Device" button at the bottom of the screen. The settings page includes "Basic Function Settings", "IR Night Vision", "Detection Alarm Settings", "Offline Notification", "Purchase VAS", "Share Device", "FAQ & Feedback", "Add to Home Screen", and "Firmware Information".

App Functions

Live Video

To view live video, click on the device under "All devices" on the app's main screen. The live video feed will appear at the top immediately. To view footage full screen, tilt the phone sideways or hit the full screen button in the bottom right corner of the live video.

Video Recording

To record video, press the "record" button on the main camera screen. To end recording, press the "record" button again. To view recordings, scroll down on the main camera page and press the "Photo Album" button. All video recordings and photos taken will be in the photo album. To view all footage the camera has recorded, press "Playback". Optional cloud storage can be purchased by clicking on "Cloud Storage" if a Micro SD card is not inserted in the camera.

Installing a Micro SD Card

To install a Micro SD Card, insert it into the slot on the side of the camera. Ensure the correct type of memory card is used (e.g., microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC). Once correctly inserted, it should click into place. To remove it, press down slightly and it will pop out. The camera supports any memory size of Micro SD Card up to 128 GB.

Once the Micro SD Card is installed, it needs to be formatted. To format the card, go to the settings of the camera by clicking on the icon at the top right corner of the camera screen, then click on "Storage Settings", and finally click on "Format". The "Storage Settings" option only appears when a Micro SD card is inserted into the camera. The storage settings display Total Capacity, Used, and Remaining Capacity, along with options for Local Recording, Recording Mode (Event Recording), and Schedule.

Setting up the Micro SD Card for Recording

Once the Micro SD Card is formatted, it is ready for recording. In "Storage Settings", turn on "Local Recording" for the camera to record video to the Micro SD Card. Then select the Recording Mode. There are two modes: "Event Recording" and "Non-Stop".

Taking a Photo

To take a photo, press "Screenshot" on the camera control screen. The photo will be saved in the Brookstone Smart App in the "Photo Album" section. From there, photos can be saved to the phone's photo section.

Infrared Night Vision

Infrared night vision is controlled automatically by the camera. When the area around the camera becomes too dark, infrared night vision will activate automatically. When the area around the camera is bright again, night vision will deactivate automatically.

Two Way Audio

To activate two-way audio, press the "speak" button on the camera control screen. When the button is blue, whatever is spoken into the phone will come out of the camera's speaker. Sounds from the live video on the camera can also be heard simultaneously.

Motion Detection

The camera uses infrared sensors to detect movement within its detection area. Push notifications will be sent to the phone once motion is detected.

To access motion detection controls, press the camera setting button at the top right of the main camera screen. On the next page, select "Detection Alarm Settings". From there, motion detection can be turned on/off and sensitivity settings adjusted. This can also be accessed by hitting the "alarm" button on the main camera page.

Hub Controls (Sound, Video Quality, Signal Strength)

Features can be controlled from the live video feed. There is a volume button to mute and unmute the live feed. Next to the volume button is the video quality button, used to switch between standard and high definition video. In the top right corner of the live video feed, the signal strength of the camera is displayed.

Sharing the Device

To share access to the camera with another Brookstone Smart account user, press the camera settings button at the top right of the main camera screen. Then select "Share Device". On the next page, press "Add Sharing" at the bottom. After that, enter the email associated with the other person's Brookstone Smart account. They will receive a notification to accept, granting them access to view the camera through the Brookstone Smart app on their phone.

Connecting to a New Network

How to change the WiFi Network of the camera

If the WiFi network connected to the device needs to be changed, delete the device from the Brookstone Smart App. Then, start the setup process again as if adding a new device, ensuring the phone is connected to the new WiFi Network that the existing device will connect to. The device will then remember the new WiFi Network.

Once a WiFi Network has been successfully connected to the device, it will remember it even if unplugged. Therefore, if the camera is moved to a different part of the home, it can be unplugged after setup and then plugged in elsewhere, and it will automatically connect to the WiFi.
