Norman Horizontal Sheer Shade Installation Guide

Introduction

This document provides comprehensive installation instructions for the Norman Horizontal Sheer Shade (Model N301086-J). It covers the setup of the shade, valance, optional light guard, and the motorized system, along with troubleshooting and safety information.

Horizontal Sheer Installation

This section details the installation of the main horizontal sheer shade, including bracket mounting, shade installation, and valance/fascia attachment.

Mounting Types

The shade can be installed using three methods: Inside Mount, Semi-Inside Mount, and Outside Mount.

Curved Fascia/Wood Valance clip [Clip Icon] To install Curved Fascia / Wood Valance (placed on Fascia/Valance)

Bracket Installation

Installation of Mounting Bracket:

When installing the shade bracket, ensure the distance from the bracket's front mounting hole to the front edge of the window frame is at least 3/4". Align both shade brackets horizontally. Each bracket requires two 1 1/4" hexagon screws.

Install the brackets into the wall:

Use a level to check the raceway. Adjust bracket positions to keep the raceway level.

Diagram shows placement of mounting brackets for Inside Mount and Outside Mount, with spacing guidelines.

Shade Installation and Removal

There are two installation methods.

Before installing the shade, locate the lock pin on the shade bracket's end plug side and slide it downward to prevent the shade from falling.

Installation Steps:

  1. Insert the back edge of the raceway into the back plastic part of the bracket. Push the raceway upwards until the front rib snaps into the bracket.
  2. Snap the front rib of the raceway into the bracket. Push the raceway backward and upward so the back is secured to the bracket's plastic part.

Diagram shows a two-step process of inserting the raceway into the mounting bracket.

Removal of Shade:

Use a tool to push back the front or back plastic part of the brackets. Turn the back side of the raceway downward to detach it from the bracket. Finally, pull the raceway downward to remove the shade.

Diagram shows using a tool to detach the raceway from the bracket.

Valance Bracket Location

The distance from the raceway ends to the valance bracket should be 3"~6". Middle distances should be divided evenly.

Diagram illustrates the placement of valance brackets on the raceway, showing 3"-6" from ends and even spacing in between.

Valance Clip Installation

Insert the valance clip into the dedicated groove on the strip, ensuring correct orientation. For a valance, the clip should face downwards. Align the clip location with the valance bracket.

Diagram shows inserting a valance clip into a groove, with arrows indicating correct downward orientation for valances and alignment with brackets.

Fascia & Valance Installation and Removal

Valance Bracket Installation:

Stick the valance bracket horizontally into the raceway groove and turn 90 degrees to lock it. The top groove of the bracket should hook onto the top of the raceway.

The bottom groove clips into the bottom rib of the raceway.

Diagram shows attaching a valance bracket to the raceway by inserting and rotating it.

Attach Valance Return to Valance:

If a return is present, first insert the valance return connector into the return, then attach the return to the valance.

Diagram shows connecting a valance return connector and attaching it to the valance.

For Modern Wood Valance:

Diagram shows specific steps for modern wood valance attachment.

Attach Fascia End Cap to Curved Fascia:

Diagram shows attaching an end cap to a curved fascia.

Attach End Cap to Fabric Valance:

Diagram shows attaching an end cap to a fabric valance.

Valance/Fascia Removal:

First, remove the Valance/Fascia together with the valance clip from the valance bracket.

Take the shade down from the mounting bracket before removing the valance bracket from the raceway. Turn the valance bracket 90 degrees, then detach it from the raceway.

Diagram illustrates removing the valance bracket from the raceway.

Note: The installation and removal for all fascias and valances are the same.

Cord Tensioner Installation and Removal

Cord tensioners are included for all mount types: inside mount, semi-inside mount, and outside mount.

Important Notes:

Installation Instructions:

  1. Press the locking point on the cord tensioner and pull it downward to release it from the slot. Mark the position of the bottom of the cord tensioner on the wall.
  2. Secure the Holder: Align the bottom of the holder with the marked position on the wall. Attach the holder to the wall using the provided 8 x 1 1/4" screws. Ensure the arrow on the back of the holder is pointing upward.
  3. Press the locking point on the cord tensioner and push it into the holder. Pull the cord taut and release it from the slot to unlock the tensioner.

Diagram shows the installation of a cord tensioner, marking the wall, securing the holder, and inserting the tensioner.

Removal Instructions:

Use a flat screwdriver to gently pry apart the interlocked teeth of the cord tensioner and its holder. Once separated, pull the cord tensioner out of the holder.

Diagram shows using a screwdriver to release the cord tensioner from its holder.

Sheer Shade Operation

Continuous Cord Loop Operation:

The shade operates using a continuous cord loop.

Back of Shade: Pull the cord in the back downward to lower the shade until the vanes are fully open.

Front of Shade: Pull the cord in the front downward to close the vanes and raise the shade.

Diagrams illustrate the cord loop operation, showing how pulling the front or back cord affects the shade's position and vane orientation.

Bottom Rail Adjustment:

If the fabric is moving left or right when rolling up, or if the bottom rail is uneven, flip up the bottom rail and slide the counterweight to the other side.

If the shade is installed crookedly and does not roll up correctly, or if the bottom rail does not stay even, loosen the screw and adjust the counterweight on the back side of the bottom rail.

Diagram shows adjusting the counterweight on the bottom rail.

Shade Limits:

Light Guard System

This section describes the installation of the optional Light Guard system to minimize light leakage.

Note: Skip this step if no light guard is included.

Hardware Included

Hardware Drawing Usage
3/4" Flat Head Screw [Flat Head Screw Icon] To install basic light guard

Installation of Top Light Guard

Insert the Top Light Block Piece into the mounting bracket.

Diagram shows inserting a top light block piece into a mounting bracket.

Installation of Basic Light Guard

  1. Fully lower the shade. Place the wide side of the light guard next to the back of the shade fabric.
  2. For basic light guards, tear off the double-sided tape on the narrow side and stick the Light Guard to the window frame.
  3. For a more secure fit, use 3/4" flat head screws to secure the light guard through the pre-drilled holes.
  4. For optimal light blocking, the top of the light guard should be placed next to the shade fabric, and the bottom should be installed sloping slightly forward.

Diagrams show the placement of the light guard against the shade fabric and the window frame, and an illustration of the recommended sloping bottom installation.

Light Guard Installation Tips

After installing the shade and top light block, place the side light guards next to the back of the shade fabric, one on each side.

Before screwing, determine the exact position and mark it with a pencil.

The wide side of the light guard must face the back of the shade fabric. Do not push the light guard inward, as this can impede smooth shade operation and cause the tops of the side guards to scrape the fabric.

Diagrams contrast correct and incorrect positioning of the light guard, emphasizing the wide side facing the fabric and avoiding inward pressure.

Installation of Transparent Adhesive Tape

Transparent adhesive tape is used for basic light guards that require splicing.

Installation: Align the double dotted line with the edge of the light guard and fold the tape on both sides.

Diagram shows how to apply and fold transparent adhesive tape for splicing light guards.
