Introduction and General Information

Before using the device for the first time, carefully read the supplied instructions. Do not discard the instructions. Before starting, the device must stand for a minimum of 3 hours at room temperature.

Product Description

The Marathon Multi 800 is an extremely strong and durable router, designed for all tasks related to prosthetic work, wood carving, and jewelry processing. It features a powerful BM50S1 head with a torque of 7.6 Ncm and operates at speeds from 1 to 50,000 revolutions per minute.

TWIST-LOCK: Easy Cutter Change

The TWIST-LOCK handle allows for quick and easy cutter changes in a single motion. To unlock, turn the handle left to loosen and replace the cutter. Turn right to lock and secure the cutter.

Multi 800 Milling Machine Set Components

The set includes the following components:

  • Control unit: The main console with controls and display.
  • Head: The handheld rotary tool for milling.
  • Cutter removal tool: A tool to assist in changing cutters.
  • Base with control knee: An optional foot pedal for controlling the machine.
  • Standard base: The primary base unit.
  • Foot switch: An alternative foot pedal for operation.
  • Head stand (optional): A stand to hold the milling head when not in use.

Operation Notes and Recommendations

Overload Alarm: During operation, an overload alarm may occur, indicated by an overload light and an audible alarm. To restart, turn the speed control knob to the minimum until the machine restarts after the overload stops.

Recommendations:

  • Never drop the milling machine or head, as this can cause damage.
  • Prevent water and other liquids from entering the device.
  • Always turn off the milling machine before replacing the cutter. Never replace the cutter while the machine is running.
  • Connect the router to the outlet only after ensuring all wires are correctly and safely installed.
  • This device is for professional use only.
  • Ensure the foot control switch cable plug is securely connected in its designated place.
  • Use only good quality cutters and ensure the cutter is not bent, asymmetrical, or damaged.

Important Attention Points:

  • Unlocking the handle during operation will damage the machine. Replacing cutters while the engine is running will damage the clutch, and this damage is not covered by warranty. Cutters must be replaced with the chuck unlocked and the milling machine turned off.
  • The head should be cleaned and protected from dust. Complaints due to poor use or dust damage to the head will not be accepted.

Power Supply

The device operates on AC 200-240V, 50/60 Hz. Use fuses with acceptable voltage.
Note: Do not connect or disconnect the power cord with wet hands to avoid electric shock.

Milling Machine Installation Guidelines:

  1. Install the device in a workplace that is not too humid, hot, or dirty, with temperatures between -20°C and 40°C, and relative humidity between 0-90% RH.
  2. Ensure the head cable plug is connected correctly.
  3. Install the appropriate cutter:
    • a) Ensure the cutter is off.
    • b) Turn the movable ring on the head clockwise until a "click" is heard and the pointer is over the open padlock to open the jaws.
    • c) Replace the test rod with the desired cutter.
    • d) To close the jaws, turn the ring counter-clockwise until a "click" is heard and the indicator is over the closed padlock.
  4. After changing the cutter, verify that the jaws of the cutter head are securely closed.
  5. Plug the device into a power outlet and then turn on the milling machine.
  6. After finishing work and cleaning the cutter, it is recommended to always insert the cutter into the cutter head.
  7. When finished working, always pull the plug from the outlet or disconnect the power supply. Reducing the speed to 0 does not turn off the milling machine.

Note: Before turning on the head, ensure all cables are properly connected.

Knee Control (Optional)

Position the control unit suitably for knee control and secure it with screws. The recommended height from the ground is 520-550 mm or 530-580 mm. Connect the head cable to the motor connector at the rear of the head, ensuring correct orientation and a firm connection. The power cord plug for the power socket is also located at the rear of the head.

Control Unit Buttons and Indicators:

  • Rotation Direction: Right rotation is indicated by a green LED; left rotation by an orange LED.
  • Control Mode: Manual control is indicated by a green LED; foot/knee control by an orange LED.
  • Head/Temperature Control: Press the button to turn the head on (green LED); the LED is off when the head is off.
  • RPM Count Screen: Displays the rotation speed in thousands (x1000).

Before Starting the Head:

  1. Turn off the base using the 0/I button on the back of the milling machine each time you connect the head or foot control.
  2. When the manual/leg control LED is off, speed can be adjusted with the dial.
  3. When the manual/leg control LED is on, rotation speed can be adjusted with the foot or knee control.

Procedure with Foot/Knee Control:

  1. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.
  2. Set the speed control knob to the 0 position.
  3. Turn on the head using the "AUTO CRUISE" button.
  4. Set the speed dial to the desired speed.
  5. Choose the control mode: manual or foot/knee.

To turn off the head, press the AUTO CRUISE button.

AUTO CRUISE Mode

When the foot/knee switch is used, the Auto Cruise function allows maintaining speed after releasing pressure from the foot switch. Activate by pressing the Auto Cruise switch (AUTO CRUISE). The button illuminates orange. Hold the foot switch down with equal pressure for 2 seconds. A beep confirms activation. Deactivate by pressing the foot switch.

Important Notes for Operation:

  • Wear a mask and safety goggles during procedures.
  • Do not exceed the operating speed of 50,000 revolutions; high speeds can cause device damage and personal injury.
  • Do not touch the head jaws while the handle is in use.
  • Do not drop the base or head.
  • Before disconnecting the head, ensure the milling machine is turned off.
  • Unplug the power cord when the head is not in use.

Maintenance and Care of the Head

The head should be cleaned thoroughly of dust at least once a week. Do not turn on the head without first ensuring the cutter is properly attached and locked.

How to Install and Remove the Cutter:

  1. To open the head jaws, turn the twist-lock (19) clockwise. If the cutter cannot be pulled out after opening the jaws, use the wrench included in the kit to adjust it.
  2. After removing the old cutter and installing the new one, turn the twist-lock (19) in the opposite direction to lock the cutter.

Diagram Description: Illustrates the milling head with numbered parts, including the twist-lock mechanism (19).

Diagram Description: A bar chart titled "Chart of maximum speeds (RPM) depending on the diameter of the cutter (mm)". The X-axis shows cutter diameter ranges (more than Ø40, Ø28-40, Ø18-28, Ø8-18, Ø4-8, Ø2-4, less than Ø2). The Y-axis shows rotation speed in RPM (0 to 50,000). The chart indicates that higher RPMs are recommended for smaller cutters, reaching 50,000 RPM for cutters less than Ø2 mm.

Note: Failure to follow the speed chart may damage the milling machine and void the warranty.
