Introduction and Initial Setup
Before using the device for the first time, carefully read the enclosed manual. Do not discard the manual. Before commissioning, the device must stand for a minimum of 3 hours at room temperature.
Features and Durability
The Marathon Multi 800 is an extremely strong and durable milling machine designed for continuous daily operation for tasks related to prosthetic work, wood carving, and jewelry. It features a powerful BM50S1 head with a torque of 7.6 Ncm and offers adjustable speeds from 1 to 50,000 revolutions per minute.
TWIST-LOCK: Easy Cutter Change
The TWIST-LOCK handle allows for quick and easy cutter changes in a single motion. Turn the handle left to unlock and loosen the cutter, then replace it. Turn right to lock and secure the cutter.
Multi 800 Milling Machine Kit Components
The kit includes:
- Control unit
- Head
- Base with control knee
- Base standard
- Foot switch
- Head stand (optional)
- Power cord
- Cutter removal tool
- Mounting hinge for knee switch (optional)
Overload Alarm: During operation, an overload alarm may occur, indicated by an overload light and an audible alarm. To restart, turn the speed control knob to minimum to restart the machine after the overload stops.
Recommendations
- Never drop the milling machine or head, as this may cause damage.
- Do not allow water or other liquids to enter the machine.
- Always turn off the milling machine before replacing the cutter. Never replace cutters while the machine is running.
- Connect the milling machine to an outlet only after ensuring all wires are correctly and safely installed.
- This device is for professional use only.
- Ensure the foot control switch cable plug is securely connected in its designated place.
- Use only good quality cutters and ensure the cutter is not bent, asymmetrical, or damaged.
Attention: Unlocking the handle during operation will damage the machine. Replacing cutters while the engine is running will damage the clutch, which is not covered by warranty. Cutters should be replaced only when the handle is unlocked and the milling machine is turned off.
Note: The head should be cleaned and protected from dust. Complaints due to poor use or dust damage to the head will not be accepted.
Power Supply and Safety
Power Supply: AC200~240V, 50/60 Hz. Use fuses with acceptable voltage.
Caution: Do not connect or disconnect the power cord with wet hands to avoid electric shock.
Installation of the Device
Installation and electrical connection (foot switch included, knee control optional).
Milling Machine Installation
- Install the device in a workplace that is not too humid, hot, or dirty (suitable environment: -20°C to 40°C, 0-90% RH).
- Plug the head cable into a suitable location.
- Install the appropriate cutter:
- Ensure the cutter is turned off.
- Turn the movable ring on the head clockwise until a "click" is heard and the pointer is over the open padlock symbol to open the jaws.
- Replace the test rod with the desired cutter.
- To close the jaws, turn the ring counterclockwise until a "click" is heard and the indicator is over the closed padlock symbol.
- After changing the cutter, confirm the jaws of the cutter head are securely closed.
- Plug the device into the power outlet and turn on the milling machine.
- After finishing work and cleaning the cutter, it is recommended to always insert the cutter into the cutter head.
- After finishing work, always unplug the power cord from the socket or disconnect the power supply. Reducing the speed to 0 does not turn off the cutter.
Note: Before turning on the head, ensure all cables are properly connected.
Elbow Control (Optional)
Position the control unit for knee control at a suitable height (recommended 520-550 mm or 530-580 mm from the ground) and secure with screws.
Connect the head cable to the motor connector at the rear of the head, ensuring correct orientation and a firm connection. The power cord socket is also located at the rear of the head.
Control Unit Buttons:
- Direction of Rotation: Right-green LED, Left-orange LED.
- Control Mode: Manual (green LED), Foot/Knee (orange LED).
- Head/Temperature: Press button to turn on (green LED) or turn off the head-diode.
- RPM Count Screen: Displays speed in thousands (e.g., '50' indicates 50,000 RPM).
Before Starting the Head:
- Turn off the base using the 0/I button on the back of the milling machine before connecting the head or foot control.
- When the hand/feet control diode is off, speed can be adjusted with the knob.
- When the hand/feet control diode is on, rotation speed is adjusted via foot or knee control.
Operation Procedure (Foot/Knee Control):
- Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.
- Set the speed control knob to the 0 position.
- Turn on the head using the "AUTO CRUISE" button.
- Set the speed knob to the desired speed.
- Select control mode: manual or foot/knee control.
- Press the AUTO CRUISE button to turn off the head.
AUTO CRUISE Mode
When using the foot/knee switch, the Auto Cruise function maintains speed after pressure is removed from the foot switch. Activate by pressing the Auto Cruise switch (AUTO CRUISE). The button illuminates orange. Hold the foot switch down with equal pressure for 2 seconds. A beep indicates activation. Deactivate by pressing the foot switch.
Important Notes and Safety Precautions
- When performing procedures, wear a mask and safety goggles.
- Do not exceed the operating speed of 50,000 RPM; operating at excessive speeds can damage the device and cause injury.
- Do not touch the jaws of the head while operating the handpiece.
- Do not drop the base or the head.
- Before disconnecting the head, ensure the router is turned off.
- Unplug the power cord when the head is not in use.
Maintenance and Care of the Head
Clean the head thoroughly of dust at least once a week. Do not turn on the head without first ensuring the cutter is properly attached and locked.
How to Install and Remove the Cutter
- To open the jaws of the head, turn the twist-lock (19) clockwise. If the cutter cannot be removed after opening the jaws, use the included wrench to adjust it.
- After removing the old cutter and installing the new one, turn the twist-lock (19) in the opposite direction to lock the cutter.
Diagram: Maximum Rotational Speed (RPM) vs. Cutter Diameter
This diagram is a bar chart illustrating the recommended maximum rotational speed (RPM) based on the diameter of the cutter (mm). It shows categories such as 'more than Ø40', 'Ø28-40', 'Ø18-28', 'Ø8-18', 'Ø4-8', 'Ø2-4', and 'less than Ø2'. The chart indicates that smaller diameter cutters can operate at higher RPMs, up to 50,000 RPM for cutters less than Ø2 mm, and the RPM decreases as the cutter diameter increases.
Note: Deviating from this chart may risk damaging the cutter, which will void the warranty.
