Outwell Springville 4SA Tent
Innovative Family Camping
Pitching
This tent should be erected by at least two persons.
Estimated Pitch Time: 8 minutes (minimum) to 22 minutes (maximum).
Pitching Process Overview:
The pitching process involves unfolding the tent, connecting the air tubes to the pump, and inflating them to the correct pressure. The tent is then secured using pegs and guylines.
Key Steps (Illustrated):
- Lay out the tent on a suitable surface.
- Connect the pump to the air inlet valve (labeled 'AIR IN' ?).
- Inflate the air tubes to the recommended pressure (7 PSI to 9 PSI / 0.6 bar).
- Secure the tent with pegs at designated points.
- Use guylines to provide additional stability, especially in windy conditions.
Air Pressure and Temperature:
Air pressure in the tubes can change with ambient temperature. During cooler periods (e.g., overnight), tubes may appear slack. This is normal and will resolve as temperatures rise. Avoid over-inflating a cold tent in the morning, as pressure can become too high later in the day. Periodically check and adjust pressure by opening the inflation valve to release excess air if tubes become too hard.
Packing Away
To pack the tent away, reverse the pitching process. Ensure the tent is completely dry. Deflate the air tubes, fold the tent neatly, and place it back into its storage bag.
Cleaning and Maintenance Tips
Proper care is essential for the longevity and performance of your Outwell tent.
Campsite Selection and Positioning:
Choose an even, clean campsite free from sharp objects like stones or branches. Avoid pitching directly under trees. For optimal stability in windy conditions, position the tent with its rear end facing into the wind.
Initial Setup:
It is highly recommended to practice pitching and packing the tent at home before your first outdoor use to familiarize yourself with the process.
Condensation:
Condensation can form on the inside surfaces of the tent. To minimize this, ensure good ventilation, avoid storing wet clothing inside, and consider using an Outwell® Footprint (groundsheet). Condensation should not be mistaken for leakage.
Waterproofing and Seam Care:
The flysheet is made from waterproof material. To maintain waterproofing, avoid touching the inside of the flysheet during rain. Periodically apply a seam sealer or waterproof spray to seams, particularly around zippers and toggles, as these areas experience higher tension. If seam sealing tape detaches due to prolonged sun exposure, repair it by removing loose tape and applying seam sealer and waterproof spray.
Tensioning and Pegging:
Do not over-tighten the tent during setup, as it needs flexibility to adapt to changing weather and wind conditions. Use storm pegs for strong winds and U-shaped pegs for stony or hard ground. Never use guylines to pull out tent pegs.
Protection from Damage:
Do not spray insecticides in or on the tent, as they can damage the fabric and its coating.
Drying and Storage:
Always ensure the tent is completely dry before packing to prevent mildew or rotting. After use, lightly grease metal poles with a non-acidic oil. Clean dirt from the tent using a soft sponge and clean water. Never wash the tent in a washing machine or use dry cleaning services. Store the tent in a dry place.
UV Protection and Product Lifespan:
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can damage the tent due to ultraviolet (UV) rays. Outtex® fabric, used in Outwell tents, is designed to increase the tent's lifespan. Outwell products are intended for camping use (typically 2-5 weeks per year) and are not designed for permanent installation. Camping near bodies of water can amplify UV radiation effects.
Tent Features:
The mud valance is designed to prevent wind and water ingress into the living and storage areas and should not be used for adjusting the tent or removing pegs. The Quick & Quiet* closure magnets are flexible and can be reshaped if needed; lay them flat when packing the tent to prevent damage. *Patent Pending.
Air Tent Technology:
Outwell Air tents represent the latest in family camping technology, designed for fast and easy pitching.
