Outwell Lindale 5PA Tent: Pitching and Maintenance Guide
Pitching Your Tent
The Outwell Lindale 5PA is an innovative family Air tent designed for easy setup. It is recommended that the tent be erected by at least two persons.
Pitch Time: Approximately 8 minutes.
Pitching Steps:
- Unpack the tent, noting its original packing method to assist with repacking.
- Select an ideal campsite: a level, clean area free from rocks, branches, and sharp objects. Avoid pitching directly under trees. Position the tent with its rear facing the wind for optimal stability.
- Spread the tent out, orienting the main door in your desired direction.
- Inflate the air tubes using the provided pump, ensuring the pressure is maintained between 7 PSI and 9 PSI (0.6 bar) as indicated by the pump's gauge.
- Follow the sequence of steps to secure the tent structure, which involves inflating and stabilizing the air tubes and then pegging the tent firmly into the ground. Use guylines for added tension and stability.
Note on Air System: Air expands and contracts with temperature changes. Slight slackness in air tubes overnight is normal and will resolve as ambient temperatures rise. Avoid overinflating a cold tent in the morning to prevent excessive pressure during the day.
Packing Away Your Tent
Packing Away Time: Approximately 22 minutes.
- Ensure the tent is completely dry before packing to prevent mildew or rot.
- Deflate all air tubes.
- Fold the tent systematically, starting from the sides and working towards the center, pushing out as much air as possible from the tubes.
- Pay attention to the "Quick & Quiet" closure magnets; they are flexible and can be bent back into shape if needed. Lay them flat when packing to prevent damage.
- Roll the tent tightly, starting from the end opposite the carry bag opening, and place it into the carry bag.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Congratulations on your new, innovative Outwell tent, designed to accompany you on outdoor adventures.
General Care:
- Site Selection: Choose level, clean ground, away from trees. Position the rear into the wind for stability.
- Trial Pitch: Practice pitching and packing at home before your first trip to familiarize yourself with the process.
- Condensation: Condensation on the inner surfaces is normal and not a sign of leakage. Prevent it by removing wet items, increasing ventilation, or using an Outwell Footprint.
- Waterproofing: Avoid touching the flysheet's inner surface during rain to prevent water seepage. Do not over-tighten the tent during setup, as it needs to adapt to weather conditions.
- Pegs: Use storm pegs for strong winds and U-shaped pegs for hard or stony ground. Do not pull pegs out using guylines.
- Chemicals: Do not spray insecticides inside or on the tent, as they can damage the fabric and coating.
- Drying: Ensure the tent is completely dry before storage to prevent mildew and rot.
- Storage: Store the tent in a dry place.
Specific Maintenance:
- Poles: Lightly grease metal poles with non-acidic oil after use.
- Cleaning: Remove dirt with a soft sponge and clean water. Never wash the tent in a washing machine or dry-clean it.
- Seams: Periodically treat seams, especially around zips and toggles, with a seam sealer or waterproof spray, as these areas experience higher tension.
- Tape Repair: If seam sealing tape loosens due to prolonged sun exposure, remove loose tape and re-seal with seam sealer and waterproof spray.
- Leak Repair: Minor leaks from seams can be easily re-sealed using a seam sealer.
- Waterguard: Apply Outwell Waterguard periodically to the flysheet material to extend its lifespan.
- UV Protection: Be aware that UV rays can damage the tent with prolonged direct sunlight exposure. Outtex® fabric enhances the tent's lifespan.
- Usage Limitations: Outwell products are designed for camping use (typically 2-5 weeks per year) and not for permanent use. UV effects are amplified when camping near water bodies.
- Mud Valance: Do not use the mud valance to adjust the tent or pull out pegs, as it is a weaker point designed solely to keep wind and water out of the living and storage areas.
Air Tent Pressure Management:
Maintain the recommended operational pressure for the air tubes between 7 PSI and 9 PSI (0.6 bar). If the tubes feel too hard during hot weather, check and adjust the pressure by slightly opening the inflation valve to release excess air.
