Cleaning and Maintenance Tips
Congratulations on your new innovative Outwell® Tent. To ensure you have many enjoyable holidays, please follow these guidelines.
General Care:
- UV Protection: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can damage the tent fabric. Outtex® fabric enhances tent lifespan but is not immune to UV damage. Camping near water bodies can intensify UV effects.
- Usage: Outwell products are designed for camping use (2-5 weeks/year) and not for permanent or extended use.
- Site Selection: Choose a flat, clear area free from stones, branches, and sharp objects. Avoid pitching directly under trees. Position the tent with the rear facing the wind for stability.
- Trial Pitch: Practice pitching the tent at home before first use to familiarize yourself with the process.
- Condensation: Condensation can form on the inside of the tent. Prevent this by removing wet items, ensuring good ventilation, or using an Outwell® Footprint. Condensation is not a leak.
- Waterproofing: The flysheet is waterproof. Avoid touching the inside of the flysheet in rainy weather to maintain waterproofing.
- Tension: Do not overtighten the tent during pitching, as it needs to adapt to changing weather conditions.
- Pegs: Use storm pegs for strong winds. Do not pull pegs out using guylines. U-shaped pegs are recommended for stony or hard ground.
- Chemicals: Do not spray insecticides in or on the tent, as they can damage the fabric and coating.
- Drying: Ensure the tent is completely dry before packing to prevent mildew or rotting. Lightly grease metal poles with non-acidic oil after use.
- Cleaning: Remove dirt with a soft sponge and clean water. Never wash the tent in a washing machine or dry-clean it. Store the tent dry.
- Seams: Periodically treat seams around zippers and toggles with a seam sealer or waterproof spray, as these are high-stress areas.
- Tape Repair: If seam sealing tape comes loose due to sun exposure, remove loose tape and re-seal with seam sealer and waterproof spray. Minor leaks can often be from a single thread or a fold in the tape.
- Waterguard: Regularly apply Outwell Waterguard to the flysheet material to extend its lifespan.
- Mud Valance: Do not use the mud valance to adjust the tent or pull out pegs, as it is designed only to keep wind and water out.
Air Tent Specifics:
- Inflation: Use the pump gauge to achieve the recommended operational pressure of 7 PSI to a maximum of 9 PSI (0.6 bar).
- Pressure Changes: Air expands in heat and contracts in cold. Air tubes may appear slack in the morning due to lower temperatures; this is normal and will resolve as temperatures rise.
- Temperature Adjustment: Avoid overinflating a cold tent in the morning, as pressure can become too high when temperatures increase.
- Pressure Check: Squeeze air tubes to check pressure. If they feel too hard during the day, release a small amount of air from the inflation valve and re-inflate to the recommended pressure.
Following these instructions will ensure many happy camping holidays.
