Pitching Your Outwell Wood Lake 5ATC Tent
This tent is recommended to be erected by at least two persons.
Estimated Pitching Time: 10 minutes (minimum), 19 minutes (typical).
Pitching Process Overview:
- Unpack the tent, noting how it is folded to aid repacking.
- Select a suitable campsite: an even, clear area free from stones, branches, or sharp objects. Avoid pitching directly under trees.
- Lay out the tent with the entrance facing the desired direction. Position the rear of the tent into the wind for better stability.
- Connect the air pump to the tent's air tubes and inflate them to the recommended pressure.
- Secure the tent firmly with the provided pegs. For windy conditions or hard/stony ground, use storm pegs or U-shaped pegs respectively.
- Ensure the tent is taut but not over-tightened, allowing it to adapt to weather changes.
Important Note on Air Pressure: Inflate air tubes to the recommended operational pressure of 7 PSI to a maximum of 9 PSI (0.6 bar). Air pressure fluctuates with temperature; tubes may appear slack in cooler conditions and tighten in warmer ones. This is normal. Avoid overinflating a cold tent in the morning, as pressure can become too high later in the day. Check and adjust pressure if tubes feel too hard.
Packing Away Your Tent
To pack away your tent efficiently:
- Ensure the tent is completely dry to prevent mildew and rot.
- Carefully fold the tent, following the reverse of the pitching process.
- Roll the tent tightly to expel as much air as possible.
- Place the rolled tent into its storage bag.
- Lay the 'Quick & Quiet*' closure magnets flat when packing to prevent damage.
Cleaning and Maintenance Tips
Congratulations on your new Outwell tent! Proper care will ensure its longevity and your enjoyment.
General Advice:
- For warranty claims or product issues, please contact your Outwell dealer.
- UV Protection: Ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage tent fabric with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Outtex® fabric enhances tent lifespan, but minimize prolonged direct sun exposure. Camping near the sea or lakes can intensify UV effects.
- Usage: Outwell products are designed for camping use (typically 2-5 weeks per year) and are not intended for permanent or heavy-duty use.
Setup and Site Selection:
- Choose an even, clean campsite free from sharp objects. Avoid pitching directly under trees.
- Lay out the tent with the entrance in your desired direction and the rear facing into the wind for stability.
- Practice pitching and packing the tent at home before your first trip to familiarize yourself with the process.
Tent Care and Performance:
- Condensation: Condensation can form inside the tent. Prevent this by removing wet items, ensuring good ventilation, or using an Outwell® Footprint. Condensation is not leakage.
- Flysheet: The flysheet is waterproof. Avoid touching the inside surface during rain, as this can affect waterproofing.
- Erection Tension: Do not overtighten guy lines or pegs; the tent needs flexibility for weather changes.
- Wind: Use storm pegs for strong winds and U-shaped pegs for stony/hard ground. Do not use guylines to pull out pegs.
- Insecticides: Do not spray insecticides in or on the tent, as they can damage fabric and coating.
- Drying: Always ensure the tent is completely dry before packing to prevent mildew and rot.
- Pole Maintenance: Lightly grease metal poles with a non-acidic oil after use.
- Cleaning: Remove dirt with a soft sponge and clean water. Never wash in a washing machine or dry-clean. Store the tent dry.
- Seam Care: Periodically apply seam sealer or waterproof spray to seams, especially around high-tension areas like zips. If tape detaches after sun exposure, remove loose tape and reseal. Minor leaks can often be fixed with seam sealer.
- Waterproofing Treatment: Regularly apply Outwell Waterguard to the flysheet material to extend its lifespan.
- Mud Valance: Do not use the mud valance to adjust the tent or pull out pegs; it is designed only to keep wind and water out of the living/storage area.
Air System Management:
- Inflate air tubes to the recommended pressure: 7 PSI to a maximum of 9 PSI (0.6 bar) using the pump gauge.
- Be aware that air pressure changes with temperature. Avoid overinflating a cold tent in the morning. Check and adjust pressure if tubes feel too hard.
Special Features:
- Quick & Quiet* Magnets: These are flexible and can be reshaped if needed. Lay them flat when packing to prevent damage.
