4. Getting Started
⚠️ WARNING
Wash hands with soap and water, and inspect and assemble the clean pump kit. A pumping session typically lasts up to 30 minutes. Stop using the device if you feel any discomfort.
4.1 Select Flange Size
This pump includes a 24 mm silicone flange. For alternative fits, 27 mm flanges and 21 mm, 19 mm, and 17 mm flange inserts are available for purchase on Amazon by searching "momcozy".
Flange Size Chart:
Nipple Measurement (mm) | 11-13 | 14-16 | 17-19 | 20-22 | 23-25 |
Flange (mm) | 17 | 19 | 21 | 24 | 27 |
4.1.1 Stimulate The Nipple
- Stimulate your nipple to achieve its full size.
- Place the nipple into the smallest hole you can comfortably fit without forcing it.
- Select the hole that comfortably fits the base of your nipple.
- Determine your measurement using the sizing chart.
4.1.2 Test The Flange Fit
- Place the flange on your breast to ensure your nipple is centered in the flange tunnel without any gap.
- Ensure your nipple is positioned correctly in the middle of the flange.
Fit Assessment:
- Too Small: Nipple rubs against the inner wall of the flange during pumping.
- Good Fit: Nipple moves smoothly without rubbing, and minimal areola is drawn in.
- Too Large: A large area of areola is drawn into the flange during pumping.
4.2 Get The Right Bra
For optimal pump placement and security, wear a bra that is:
- Made of stretchy fabric.
- Without underwire or padding.
- Has a flap for easy access.
- Provides full coverage.
Placement: The silicone flange should be pressed firmly against your skin without a gap. If the pump moves, tighten your bra straps or try a different bra.
4.3 Recommended Posture
⚠️ WARNING
Always sit or stand upright while pumping to prevent milk leakage. Do not use the pump while lying down or sleeping. Ensure the pump and milk collector remain vertical to prevent spills.
5. Pumping
5.1 Assembly
Before use, ensure all parts are installed correctly:
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- Insert the silicone diaphragm into the linker and press gently around the edge to seal it.
- Connect the silicone valve to the end of the linker, applying mild pressure to secure it.
- Place the assembled linker into the milk collector, aligning the "ear" notch with the inner groove. Press the silicone diaphragm onto the round hole of the milk collector to ensure a good fit.
- Connect the flange to the main body, pressing down with thumbs to secure it around the rim.
- Insert the cylindrical protrusion on the milk collector into the hole on the pump motor, aligning the groove on the collector with the notch on the motor.
5.2 Alignment
Ensure the pump is pressed tightly against your breast without a gap. Hold the flange against your breast to center your nipple in the flange tunnel; you may need to bend forward. Look through the flange to confirm nipple centering before connecting the pump. The nipple tip should not touch the top, sides, or bottom of the flange tunnel.
Correct Alignment: Nipple centered in the tunnel for effective milk expression. ✔️
Incorrect Alignment: Nipple not centered. Try again. ❌
IMPORTANT: Correct nipple alignment is crucial for comfort, expression, and performance. Ensure proper positioning before pumping to avoid discomfort. Refer to Section 4.1 for flange sizing.
5.3 Secure Pump In Bra
Place the pump inside your bra, ensuring it is pressed firmly against your breast. Tighten your bra straps if necessary for a secure fit.
5.4 Turn On Pump
Do not slide the pump directly into your bra; follow the assembly instructions. Disconnect from the charger before use. Consult your healthcare practitioner for recommended pumping duration. The Momcozy pump automatically turns off after 30 minutes.
Operation: Long press the On/Off/Pause button to turn the pump on or off. Short press to pause; press any button to resume.
Tip: The Momcozy pump may become warm during operation; this is normal.
5.5 Vacuum Pressure Settings
The Momcozy pump offers 9 vacuum pressure settings for each mode (Stimulation and Expression), allowing for personalized comfort and efficiency. Use the Increase/Decrease buttons to find your preferred setting. The LED display turns off after 20 seconds of inactivity; press any button to reactivate it.
Tip: Higher vacuum pressure does not always mean higher milk volume. Avoid excessive stress on the nipple to maintain milk production. Ensure the pump is correctly assembled if you don't feel suction.
Precautions:
- The pump does not support use while charging. Always disconnect from the charger and close the charging cap before use.
- Do not use the pump while lying down, engaging in strenuous activities, or performing activities with risk of harm.
- Using a breast pump should not cause pain. Do not use settings that are too high or uncomfortable. If discomfort or pain occurs, stop pumping, break the seal around your nipple, and discontinue the session.
