1.3 Functions
The display and controls allow you to manage your ride:
- Display Screen (Tela de Exibição): Shows speed, battery level, assist level, and more.
- Battery Button (Interruptor da Bateria): Press and hold for 3 seconds to turn the bike on/off.
- Mode Button (Botão ou Botões): Adjusts the electric assist level.
- Walk Assist Mode: Press and hold the mode button to activate 6 km/h assist.
- Headlight Switch (Interruptor do Farol): Press and hold for 3 seconds to turn the headlight on/off.
- Data Switching (M Button): Briefly press 'M' to cycle through trip distance, odometer, average speed, max speed, ride time, and battery power.
- Turn Signal Switch (Interruptor do Sinal de Direção): Briefly press to activate turn signals (left/right). The indicator icon will appear on the display.
- Battery Display (Exibição da Bateria): Shows remaining battery level. Two bars indicate dual batteries (if applicable). Low levels are indicated by orange or red.
2. Quick Start Guide
2.1 Installation Guide
Warning: Maximum load capacity is 200KG.
Follow these steps carefully for assembly:
2.1.1 General Assembly
Ensure the system is powered off before installation. Use the provided tools.
2.1.2 Unpacking and Frame Assembly
Carefully unpack all components. Begin by assembling the main frame, ensuring all parts are correctly aligned.
2.1.3 Handlebar and Stem Installation
Attach the handlebar stem to the head tube of the frame. Secure the handlebar to the stem, ensuring it is centered and tightened properly. Adjust the stem height if necessary.
2.1.4 Front Fender and Headlight Installation
Mount the front fender onto the front fork. Attach the headlight to the designated mounting point on the fork or frame, ensuring it is securely fastened.
2.1.5 Front Wheel Installation
Align the front wheel axle with the dropouts on the front fork. Insert the axle and secure it with the provided nuts and washers. Ensure the wheel spins freely.
2.1.6 Saddle and Seat Post Installation
Insert the seat post into the seat tube of the frame. Attach the saddle to the seat post. Adjust the saddle height and angle for comfortable riding, ensuring it is within the safety markings on the seat post.
2.1.7 Rear Light Installation
Mount the rear light to the seat post or rear fender as designed. Connect its wiring if required.
2.1.8 Pedal Installation
Attach the pedals to the crank arms. Remember that the left pedal (L) has a reverse thread (tightens counter-clockwise), and the right pedal (R) has a standard thread (tightens clockwise). Ensure they are securely tightened.
2.1.9 Final Checks
After assembly, double-check all bolts and connections are tight. Ensure brakes are functioning correctly and tires are properly inflated (recommended pressure: not more than 20 psi).
2.2 How to Remove the Battery
Use the provided key to unlock and remove the battery from its compartment. Ensure the key codes match for front and rear battery compartments if applicable.
2.3 How to Charge
Note: Do not charge in freezing temperatures or direct sunlight.
You can charge the battery either installed on the bike or removed:
- Charging on Bike: Insert the charger connector into the battery's charging port on the frame.
- Removing Battery for Charging: Remove the battery using the key (see 2.2) and connect the charger to the battery's port.
Charging Time: Approximately 6-8 hours for a full charge with the standard 3A charger. An optional 8A charger can reduce charging time to approximately 2.5 hours.
Charging Indicator: The charger's indicator light is red when charging and turns green when fully charged.
Initial Charge: The battery may not be fully charged from the factory. Please charge it fully before the first use.
2.4 Quick Operation
Follow these steps for riding:
- Power On: Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds.
- Adjust Saddle/Handlebars: Ensure the saddle and handlebars are adjusted to a comfortable height for your body. Check seat post quick release is secure.
- Power On & Adjust Lights/Signals: Turn on the power. Use the headlight switch to turn the headlight on/off (hold for 3 seconds). Use the turn signal switch to activate signals (press briefly). Adjust the headlight beam to illuminate approximately 10 meters ahead.
- Check Battery: Ensure the battery level is sufficient for your ride.
- Braking: The left brake lever controls the front brake, and the right lever controls the rear brake. For safe stopping, apply the rear brake first, then the front brake. Avoid sudden front brake application.
- Riding: Start pedaling. Use the throttle or pedal assist as needed.
2.5 Display Settings
Access settings by pressing the 'M' button multiple times until the desired menu appears. Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust values and 'M' to confirm or move to the next setting. Press and hold 'M' for 3 seconds to save and exit.
- Backlight Brightness (01-05): Adjust screen brightness.
- Unit Setting (km/mile): Switch between metric and imperial units.
- Auto Off: Set automatic shutdown time (00-90 minutes, 00 means off). Default is 5 minutes.
- Wheel Size: Set wheel diameter (1-32 inches). Default is 23 inches. (Not recommended to change unless necessary).
- Speed Limit: Default is 25 km/h (EU) or 28 mph (US). US version speed limit can be adjusted, but values above 28 mph are invalid.
- Auto Light: Enables automatic headlight activation in low light conditions.
- System Info: Displays software and hardware information.
- Battery Info: Shows battery status and details.
- Password Setting: Set or disable a power-on password.
2.6 How to Connect the Engwe App
Download the 'Engwe' app from the App Store or Google Play. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and the bike. Open the app, tap 'Connect', select your bike model (e.g., ENGWE-xxxx), and confirm the connection.
3. Maintenance Precautions
Regular maintenance ensures safety and longevity. If you are not a professional, contact customer service or a service station for maintenance.
3.1 Maintenance Precautions
- General: Keep the bike clean. Avoid washing the motor with high-pressure water or submerging it.
- Battery: Lithium batteries have a long lifespan, but it depends on usage. Avoid deep discharge. Charge regularly. Do not expose to extreme temperatures.
- Brakes: Regularly check brake pad wear and adjust as needed. Ensure brake levers are functioning correctly.
- Tires: Check tire pressure regularly (max 20 psi). Inspect for wear and damage.
- Chain: Keep the chain clean and lubricated.
- Bolts: Periodically check and tighten all bolts and screws.
- Electrical Components: Avoid water ingress into electrical parts.
- Motor: Keep the motor clean and free from foreign objects. Do not hit the motor casing.
3.2 Maintenance and Self-inspection
