In this instruction manual, we will present basic knowledge about the use and maintenance of the assisted electric bicycle. For a better cycling experience, it is essential that you read and understand the performance, features, precautions, and maintenance methods of this product. If you have any questions, please contact the official after-sales team or the local authorized service station in a timely manner, and we will provide diagnostic assistance as quickly as possible.
Safety Precautions
- Understand and follow the precautions in this instruction manual to effectively reduce risks. When in public areas, follow national and local laws and regulations. While cycling, stay alert and maintain a safe distance from other people and vehicles.
- The assisted electric bicycle must be operated according to the instructions in the manual. Any damage resulting from improper use will be the user's responsibility.
- This product is not a professional all-terrain vehicle. Do not use this product according to the standards for all-terrain vehicles.
- For the first use, ride in a non-public area without traffic. After familiarizing yourself with the product, use it on public roads.
- Carefully check for loose fasteners or damaged parts before each ride. If this product emits abnormal sounds, stop riding immediately and request diagnostic assistance from the official after-sales team.
- Please do not accelerate or ride on roads with motorized vehicles under any circumstances.
- For safety reasons, it is strictly prohibited for minors under 16 years of age to use this product. It is expressly prohibited to use this product in the following situations:
- People under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- People unable to perform intense physical activities due to illness.
- People who cannot maintain balance or lack the necessary motor skills.
- People whose total weight exceeds the maximum load limit. (Refer to 2.1.1 for weight limit instructions.)
- Pregnant women.
- Be careful when using this product in adverse weather conditions, such as snow, rain, slippery roads, ice, etc.
- Do not attempt to charge the product in humid conditions with the charger or power supply. If charging in public places, follow local safety laws and regulations.
- To ensure effective protection and convenience in use, use only officially authorized parts.

1.3 Function Description
Common Function Descriptions:
- Power On/Off: Short press for 1 second to turn on, long press for 3 seconds to turn off.
- Adjust Assistance Level: Short press the [+] button to adjust the electric assistance level.
- Push Assist Mode: Long press the button to enter push assist mode at 6 KM/H. The push assist icon will appear on the screen. Release to stop immediately, and the push assist icon will disappear.
- Throttle: The throttle function differs between European and American versions. The European version throttle acts as a 6 KM/H push assist. The American version throttle provides speed, with a maximum speed of 20 MPH.
- Light Switch: Short press to turn on the light, dimming the panel brightness. Press again to turn off the light, restoring panel brightness.
- Cycling Data Switch: After the instrument is powered on, it displays real-time speed and single-trip mileage by default. Short press the [i] button to cycle through single-trip mileage, total mileage, maximum speed, and average speed.
- Error Code Display: When the assisted electric bicycle's electronic control system encounters a fault, the instrument will automatically display an error code. Refer to section 3.3 for error code definitions.
2. Quick Start Guide
2.1 Installation Guide
2.1.1 Secure the Product to Prevent Falls
Warning: Perform assembly/disassembly with two people. Before installation, ensure the system is turned off and does not accidentally power on.
Maximum Load: 150 KG
2.1.2 Unpacking Guide
- Place the product box on a flat surface.
- Open the box carefully.
- Lift the product out of the box.
- Warning: Secure the product to prevent falls. Two people should handle the product during unpacking and assembly.
- The main frame of the electric bike is now visible.
2.1.3 Handlebar Assembly
- Insert the handlebar into the stem.
- Align the stem and secure it with M5 bolts.
- Tighten the M5 bolts.
- Ensure the installation effect is correct, with the handlebar at a >90° angle.
- Check that the white safety line on the seat post is not exposed.
- Confirm that the handlebar is centered and perpendicular to the top tube of the frame.
2.1.4 Front Fender and Headlight Installation
- Protect the instrument screen from pressure.
- Remove the M4 and M15 bolts and keep them safe.
- Attach the front fender using the provided bolts.
- Install the headlight.
2.1.5 Tire Installation
- Remove the wheel.
- Remove and save the bolts.
- Mount the tire onto the rim.
- Inflate the tire to the correct pressure (not exceeding 20 PSI).
- Attach the wheel to the bike frame.
- Secure the wheel with the provided bolts and nuts.
2.1.6 Seat Post Installation
- Place the bike on a stable surface.
- Insert the seat post into the frame. Ensure the white safety line is not exposed.
- Secure the seat post with the M6 bolt and the 15mm wrench.
- Adjust the seat for height and angle as needed.
2.1.7 Rear Fender and Rack Installation
- Attach the rear fender using M4 bolts.
- Remove the M4 bolts and keep them safe.
- Install the rear rack, ensuring alignment with the mounting holes.
2.1.8 Rear Light Installation
- Align the rear light with the mounting holes on the fender or rack.
- Secure the rear light using the provided bolts (likely size 8).
- Ensure the holes are aligned for proper installation.
2.1.9 Pedal Installation
- Distinguish between the left (L) and right (R) pedals.
- Attach the pedals to the crank arms using M6 bolts and a 15mm wrench. Ensure the left pedal is screwed into the left crank arm and the right pedal into the right crank arm.
- Tighten the pedals securely.
2.1.10 Complete Installation Effect
Congratulations! Your bicycle has been installed!
2.2 Folding
- Release the handlebar folding mechanism.
- Fold the handlebar down.
- Release the seat post quick release.
- Lower the seat post.
- Release the main frame folding mechanism.
- Fold the frame.
- Secure the folded bike.
2.3 Battery Removal
- Remove the dust cap from the battery compartment.
- Locate the battery release mechanism.
- Slide the battery out of the frame.
2.4 Charging
Two Charging Methods:
① Charge the battery directly on the frame.
② Remove the battery to charge (refer to 2.3 for battery removal method).
Attention: Batteries are shipped with a small charge. Charge the battery to maximum capacity before using the product for the first time. Please ensure you use the original manufacturer's charger that comes with the bike to charge the battery.
Steps:
- Charging: Insert the charger's charging head completely into the battery's charging port, then insert the charger's power plug completely into the electrical outlet.
- Status Indication: When the charger's indicator light is red, it indicates normal charging. When the indicator turns green, it means the battery is fully charged.
- Charging Duration: Approximately 6 to 8 hours.
- End of Charging: The power plug should be disconnected first, and then the charger's charging head should be disconnected from the battery. When charging with method ①, simply close the battery's dust cap. When charging with method ②, the battery must be placed back into the frame lock, and then the battery's dust cap should be closed.
Attention: The charger has a high-voltage device, so private maintenance is strictly prohibited to avoid danger. The battery and charger being charged should be placed in a safe place, inaccessible to children, away from flammable, explosive, or other objects (such as car seat cushions, sofas, etc.), in a ventilated and dry environment, and should not be charged outdoors, to avoid accidents due to rain and other factors that may cause electrical short circuits, fires, and other accidents.
Warning: If the charging process exhibits a strange odor or high temperature, charging should be stopped immediately, and the after-sales team should be contacted.
2.5 Quick Use
Before using the product, follow the installation guide to install the appropriate components. Pay attention to checking if the firmware is loose, ensure sufficient power, and take appropriate protective measures for cycling.
STEP 1: Adjust the Handlebar and Saddle
Adjust the handlebar and saddle to a suitable cycling height according to the user's height, ensuring that the quick release of the seat post and the quick release of the vertical tube are fully tightened.
Attention: It is recommended to adjust the handlebar to a comfortable height according to your cycling habits, and the saddle to your pelvis height, but the maximum should not exceed the safety scale.
Step 2: Turn on the Power and Adjust the Headlight
1. Turn on the battery power: Insert the key into the battery lock and turn it to the end, at this moment the key is parallel to the frame.
2. Briefly press the power button for about 1 second, and the screen will light up.
3. Adjust the headlight so it can illuminate the front for 10m.
Step 3: Adjust the Level
Change the cycling mode according to road conditions and your personal needs. This bicycle is equipped with 5 assistance levels; press the [+] or [-] button to change the level.
Level 1 is suitable for relatively flat road conditions; the steeper the incline, the higher the level you can adjust accordingly.
Attention: When the bicycle is in mode 0 (PAS 0), there is no power, but it can be ridden like a normal bicycle.
When at Level 1, start the bike and increase or decrease the level as needed while cycling.
Step 4: Road Cycling
For your safety, we recommend wearing a helmet while riding on the road.
Step 5: Braking Instructions
The left brake is for the front tire, and the right brake is for the rear tire. Use the right brake first, then the left brake to slow down the bicycle to a stop.
Warning: Do not use only the front brake for sudden braking, as this may cause instability of the vehicle's center of gravity and lead to an accidental fall.
2.6 Instrument Settings
If the default settings do not meet your needs, you can follow the steps below to make personalized settings:
- Enter Personalized Settings Interface: When the device is on, press and hold the [MENU] and [UP] buttons simultaneously for more than 2 seconds.
- Switch Personalized Settings Interface: Briefly press the [+/-] buttons. There are 18 Personalized Settings, from 01P to 18P. The description for each interface is as follows:
- 01P/bL: Backlight brightness setting. 01/bL-1 is dimmest, 03/bL-3 is brightest.
- 02P/Un: Metric and Imperial unit setting. 00/U-2 is metric, 01/U-1 is imperial.
- 03P: Nominal voltage setting. The default is 48V, and it is not recommended to change it. Changing it will result in inaccurate power indication.
- 04P: Automatic shutdown time setting. The automatic shutdown time interval can be set as follows: 00~60MIN. 00 means no automatic shutdown; the default is automatic shutdown after 10MIN.
- 05P: Assistance level setting. European version: level 0~3, level 1~3, level 0~5, level 1~5. American version: add level 0~7, level 1~7, level 0~9, level 1~9. The default is level 0~5.
- 06P/Ld: Tire diameter setting. Adjustable tire diameter range for the instrument: 1~32 INCHES. The default is 23 INCHES, and it is not recommended to change it. Otherwise, the speed display will be incorrect.
- 07P/n-: Speed sensor magnet number setting. Adjustable magnet number range for the speed instrument: 1~255. The default is 06, and it is not recommended to change it. Otherwise, it will lead to abnormal speed display.
- 08P/LS: Speed limit setting. The default is 25km/h (European version) or 28MPH (American version). The European version cannot be changed. The American version can be changed, but exceeding 28 MPH is an invalid setting.
- 09P: Zero start and non-zero start setting. Selectable start mode: 00 for zero start, 01 for non-zero start. The default is zero start (00).
- 10P: Riding mode setting. Selectable riding mode: 00 is pedal assist only, 01 is electric power only, 02 is combined electric and pedal assist.
- Enter Parameter Change State: Briefly press the [MENU] button; the parameter display will flash. At this moment, briefly press the [+] button to adjust the parameters.
- Save Parameter Settings and Return to Configuration Interface: Briefly press the [MENU] button.
- Save Parameter Settings and Exit Configuration Interface: Long press the [MENU] button.
Attention: This model does not support configuration options 11P, 12P, 13P, 14P, 15P, 16P, 17P, 18P. Even if configured, they are invalid.
Restore Factory Default Parameter Settings (You can use this setting when your configurations are confusing).
- Enter Factory Default Parameter Restoration Interface: Press and hold the [MENU] and [DOWN] buttons simultaneously for more than 2 seconds. 'dEF' is the option to restore factory default parameter settings.
- Change Parameters: Briefly press the [+/-] buttons. 'dEF-Y' means the default parameters need to be restored; 'dEF-N' means no restoration is needed. Choose 'Y'.
- Confirm Default Parameter Restoration: Briefly press the [MENU] button to confirm. The instrument will display 'dEF-D' for a period of time and will automatically start restoring the factory default settings. When the default restoration is complete, it will automatically exit and return to the normal display interface.
3. Maintenance Precautions
3.1 Precautions for Use
Safety in Using the Assisted Electric Bicycle
- Do not park the assisted electric bicycle in building lobbies, evacuation stairs, walkways, and safety exits.
- Do not charge or park the assisted electric bicycle in residential buildings. Charging should be done away from combustible materials. Charging time should generally not exceed 12 hours.
- Avoid water entering electrical components. When cleaning the bicycle, avoid water splashing onto the charging port, cable connectors, and other electrical components.
- When adjusting the seat and vertical tube height, be careful not to expose the safety line markings on the seat and vertical tube.
- Users and merchants are prohibited from modifying bicycles privately. Such as: altering the battery configuration, changing wiring, increasing the lamp's wattage, and increasing sound, etc.
- It is prohibited to touch the electrically charged parts of the electric bicycle with wet hands or metal conductors. Such as: battery interface, battery charging port, and charger power plug, and other parts.
- Do not disassemble electrical parts without authorization to avoid the penetration of liquids and metal shavings into electrical parts.
- Do not expose the bicycle to prolonged exposure to sunlight/rain to avoid deterioration of parts.
- If you need to scrub the bicycle, use water mixed with neutral detergent to clean its body. Do not disassemble and wash internal parts to avoid short circuits.
Attention: Repair by non-professionals is strictly prohibited. In case of malfunction, you must contact customer service or go to the designated professional repair station by our company to perform maintenance.
Cycling Safety: Respect National and Local Traffic Rules and Pay Attention to Cycling Safety
- It is strictly prohibited for minors under 16 years of age to ride the assisted electric bicycle on roads; do not lend it to people who do not know how to operate the assisted electric bicycle to avoid danger.
- Ride on non-motorized lanes and do not exceed the maximum speed limit stipulated by local regulations.
- The assisted electric bicycle must carry people or objects according to the law.
- Always wear a suitable safety helmet and fasten the helmet strap when riding.
- During cycling in rain or snow, the braking distance will be longer, so you must pay attention to reducing speed. In case of heavy rain, avoid riding as much as possible.
- Carefully observe traffic rules and do not ride under the influence of alcohol, nor ride with one hand or with both hands off the handlebars.
- Try to wear bright, non-restrictive clothing with open cuffs that allow you to move freely while cycling. Wear low-heeled shoes or sports shoes as much as possible.
Precautions During the Ride
- For your safety and the safety of others, consciously abide by traffic rules.
- You must wear a safety helmet before cycling, as well as take other relevant safety precautions.
- When the vehicle is turned on for the first time, accelerate slowly to avoid accelerating too quickly and losing control.
- Braking distances should be increased appropriately in rainy and snowy weather. While cycling, concentrate and ride carefully and slowly to avoid side skids and falls.
- Before parking, shift to a lower gear for the next ride.
Pre-Ride Check
- Turn on the power, check if the instrument indicator lights are normal and if the power supply is sufficient.
- Check if the front and rear headlights illumination and headlight angle are in good condition.
- Check if the electric bicycle's horn is sounding in good condition.
- Check if the handlebar and seat post are adjusted to the correct position and ensure that the fixing bolts (or quick releases) are tightened.
- Check the braking system; the placement and operation of the brake should make the brake reliable, restore flexibility, and the taillight should be on during braking.
- Check the normal tire pressure, as well as for cracks, abnormal wear, and the insertion of sharp objects such as nails, stones, and glass.
- Check if the pedal bolts are tightened. Pedal reflectors should not be lost, broken, or contaminated.
Precautions for Pushing and Parking
- Turn off the power switch when pushing to avoid accidents caused by involuntary throttle rotation when pushing.
- When pushing uphill or carrying heavy objects, you can activate the assist mode to help push.
- When parking, place the kickstand on a flat surface and turn off the power.
- To keep your bicycle in the best condition, regular maintenance and cleaning are necessary.
3.2 Maintenance and Self-Inspection
Bicycle Maintenance and Self-Inspection
- The assisted electric bicycle has been perfectly adjusted before leaving the factory. If in doubt, contact the manufacturer or supplier.
- Frequently check tire pressure to keep it within normal limits.
- Key components such as the handlebar, folding seat post, saddle, seat tube, front and rear hubs, central axles, cranks, and front and rear tires should be frequently inspected and adjusted so that the transmission parts are flexible and do not present anomalies. Loose nuts and bolts should be tightened promptly.
- It is recommended to lubricate parts (e.g., front axle bearings, central axle bearings, rear axle bearings, forks, pedal bearings, etc.) with calcium-based grease every six months, while in use. Every two months, add 30# oil to the chain, shift lever cable, pedal support, and other parts.
- If wear parts are found to be damaged, such as: brake pads, chains, tires, etc., you can find a local repair point to replace them, but be careful to replace them with parts of the same type and specification.
Motor Maintenance
- Do not open the motor base and end cover after sealing treatment.
- The motor should be kept clean. No foreign matter, corrosive liquid, or gas should enter the motor. The motor casing should not be hit or baked to avoid damage to the motor.
- The motor's waterproof rating is IPX5. Do not wash the motor with a water gun or allow the motor to be submerged in water. If the water level is submerged up to the center of the motor hub, it may cause a short circuit in the internal wiring of the entire vehicle and damage the electrical components.
Battery Maintenance
- Lithium batteries have large capacity, long life, light weight, and other characteristics, and their service life is closely related to how they are used. Do not wait until the power is insufficient to charge them, and do not store them for a long time. It is important to get into the habit of charging diligently.
- The initial charge must be full. It is recommended to charge for 6 to 8 hours each time, not more than 12 hours.
- When not in use for a long period of time, the lithium battery must be charged for more than two hours per month. It is strictly prohibited to store the battery in a state of power depletion. If the battery voltage reaches a deficit state, it will cause great damage to the battery and cannot be recovered, resulting in battery damage.
Danger: Do not disassemble old batteries without authorization; they must be recycled according to the location designated by the local government or our special maintenance point.
Warning: The battery should not be placed near open flames or high-temperature heat sources, should not be thrown into fire, and should not be exposed to the sun in hot weather.

Error Codes
ENGWE electric assist bicycles are equipped with a fault detection system. If there is a fault in the electrical system, the instrument will display an error code. Below are the most common fault codes that will help you troubleshoot the problem. If an error code appears, stop operation immediately and contact the ENGWE after-sales team.

4.1 After-Sales Service and Warranty Scope
Warranty Principles
- Users must operate and use the product correctly, in accordance with the requirements of this manual. For any performance failure caused by production quality, the company will uniformly fulfill the warranty obligation according to consumer protection law.
- Failures outside the warranty and main components after the warranty period will be repaired by the company at its discretion.
- After the warranty period, the company will provide replacement batteries at factory price. However, batteries must be recycled one by one and returned to the battery manufacturer to ensure safety and prevent environmental pollution.

4.2 Warranty Card and Maintenance Records
Warranty Description
- Accessories are strictly guaranteed during the warranty period.
- The warranty period starts from the date of purchase.
- The warranty will not be granted if the charger, battery, or motor are privately disassembled.
- Other bicycle parts will not be guaranteed, except for three months, due to quality problems.
- When other accessories of the complete bicycle are faulty, maintenance must be carried out at a professional repair point and should not be disassembled privately. The controller, battery, and charger must ensure that all labels are complete.
- When repairing the entire bicycle, it is necessary to present the warranty card, invoice, conformity certificate, and other relevant documents.
- The battery warranty is a one-to-one warranty. In case of battery problems, it is necessary to return it to the manufacturer first to determine if it is covered by the warranty, according to the battery test standards.
