Quick Start Guide
Unpacking and Contents
The package includes the electric bicycle frame, handlebars, saddle, charger, various tools (wrenches, Allen keys), a tire pump, a screwdriver, and small parts. Two people are recommended for unpacking and installation. Ensure the system is powered off before installation to prevent accidental activation.
Component Identification
The electric bicycle consists of the following main components: Saddle, Seat Post, Seat Post Quick Release, Rear Light, Rear Fender, Rear Rack, Rear Brake, Motor, Reflector, Wheel, Rear Derailleur, Chains, Handlebar, Vertical Tube, Vertical Tube Quick Release, Folding Riser, Folding Handle, Front Light, Front Fender, Front Wheel, Frame Folding Handle, Battery Compartment, Front Suspension Fork, Front Brake, Chainrings, Crank, and Pedals.
Installation Steps
Handlebar and Saddle Adjustment
Adjust the handlebars and saddle to a comfortable riding height suitable for the user's stature. Ensure the seat post and vertical tube quick releases are securely tightened. It is recommended to adjust the handlebar to a comfortable height based on riding habits and the saddle to the height of your pelvis, without exceeding the safety scale.
Powering On and Lights
To turn on the bicycle, briefly press the power button for 2 seconds. The display will illuminate. To turn on the headlight, press and hold the power button for approximately 2 seconds. Adjust the headlight to illuminate the area up to 10 meters in front of the bicycle.
Gear Adjustment
Change riding modes according to road conditions and personal needs. The bicycle is equipped with 5 assist gears. Use the assist gear buttons (+/-) to change gears. Gear 1 is suitable for relatively flat roads; higher gears can be used for inclines. When the bicycle is in 'PAS' (Pedal Assist System) mode, it provides motor assistance while pedaling. If the bicycle is in 'walk' mode (indicated by a specific icon), it assists up to 6 km/h without pedaling.
Riding and Braking
For your safety, it is recommended to wear a helmet while riding. The left brake lever controls the front brake, and the right lever controls the rear brake. To brake, apply the rear brake first, then the front brake, and reduce speed gradually until stopped. Avoid sudden application of the front brake, as this can destabilize the bicycle and cause a fall.
Accessory Installation
- Luggage Rack: Install the luggage rack using M4 and M5 screws as shown in the diagrams.
- Rear Light: Install the rear light using the provided screws.
- Front Fender and Foot Support: Install the front fender and foot support using the provided screws and wrenches.
- Wheel Mounting: Mount the wheels, ensuring proper alignment and tightening of nuts and bolts.
- Saddle Installation and Adjustment: Insert the seat post into the frame and adjust the saddle height and angle. Secure the seat post quick release.
- Headlight Installation: Attach the headlight to the front fork or frame using the provided screws and tools.
- Pedal Installation: Screw the pedals into the crank arms. Note that the left pedal (L) usually has a reverse thread and the right pedal (R) has a standard thread. Tighten securely.
- Tire Inflation: Inflate the tires to the recommended pressure, typically indicated on the tire sidewall.
Folding the Bicycle
To fold the bicycle, release the main frame latch, fold down the handlebars, and then fold the main frame. Ensure all latches are securely locked when unfolded.
Battery Charging and Activation
Charging: The bicycle can be charged with the battery installed or removed. Use the original charger. The charging indicator is red while charging and green when fully charged. Charging time is approximately 3-4 hours. Ensure the charging environment is dry and well-ventilated. Do not charge in direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
Activation: After charging, the battery may enter a sleep mode managed by the BMS. Wait for the battery to activate fully (indicated by a steady red light after a flashing green light). For the first use, charging for about 30 minutes is recommended for extended initial use.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection
- The bicycle is adjusted before leaving the factory. Contact the manufacturer or supplier if you have doubts.
- Regularly check tire pressure.
- Periodically inspect and adjust major components like handlebars, seat post, brakes, wheels, and chains for flexibility and proper function. Tighten loose nuts and bolts.
- Lubricate bearings and moving parts every six months with appropriate grease. Lubricate the chain and cables approximately every two months with motor oil.
- Replace worn parts like brake pads, chains, or tires promptly with parts of the same type and specification.
Motor Maintenance
- Do not open the motor casing or end cap.
- Keep the motor clean and free from foreign matter, corrosive liquids, or gases. Avoid hitting or baking the motor casing.
- The motor has an IPX5 protection rating; do not rinse with high-pressure water or submerge in water.
Battery Maintenance
- Lithium batteries have a long lifespan, but their life is related to usage. Charge frequently and avoid storing for long periods without charging.
- For initial charging, charge fully, for approximately 4 hours, but no more than 8 hours.
- If not used for a long time, charge the battery for at least two hours per month. Do not store with a depleted charge, as this can cause irreversible damage.
- Danger: Do not disassemble old batteries without permission; recycle them according to local regulations.
- Warning: Keep batteries away from flames or high temperatures. Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Do not expose to direct sunlight in hot weather.
Troubleshooting Common Faults
If the vehicle does not function, check for low battery, loose electrical connections, or incorrect startup sequence. If mileage is insufficient, check tire pressure, riding conditions, or battery health. If the battery does not charge, check the charger connection or the battery itself. If the motor does not function, check motor cables or the accelerator. For abnormal acceleration or low speed, check the accelerator or battery charge.
Error Codes
The bicycle is equipped with a fault detection system. If an error occurs, the instrument will display an error code. Common error codes include E01/E02/E42 (Control Unit Power Failure), E03 (Hall Failure in Control Unit), E05 (Temperature Failure in Control Unit), E06 (Motor Temperature Protection), E09 (Voltage Failure), E30 (Communication Failure), E31 (Control Unit Failure), E36 (Torque Sensor Failure), E37 (Speed Sensor Failure), E38 (Temperature Sensor Failure), and E43 (Motor Failure). If an error code appears, stop operation immediately and contact ENGWE after-sales service.
Service and Warranty
Warranty Principles
- Accessories are guaranteed according to their warranty period.
- The warranty begins from the date of purchase.
- Tampering with the charger, battery, or motor without permission voids the warranty.
- Vehicle accessories are not covered under warranty for more than three months, except for quality issues.
- Repairs for vehicle accessories must be done at a professional service point; do not disassemble privately. Controllers, batteries, and chargers must have intact labels.
- Warranty cards, invoices, and conformity certificates must be presented for repairs.
- Battery warranty is handled on a case-by-case basis. Batteries must be returned to the manufacturer for assessment to determine warranty coverage.
