Safety Information
Please read and understand this entire manual before attempting to assemble, operate or install the product.
CAUTION: Read instructions carefully and turn electricity off at main circuit breaker panel before beginning installation.
CAUTION: Risk of fire. Min. 90°C supply conductors. Consult a qualified electrician to ensure correct branch circuit conductor.
WARNING: If any Special Control Devices are used with this fixture, follow instructions carefully to assure full compliance with N.E.C. requirements. If there are any questions, contact a qualified electrical contractor.
CAUTION: All glass is fragile. Use care when handling glass shades and bulbs.
Preparation
- Before beginning installation, make sure all parts are included using the contents diagrams from page 1. If any part is missing or damaged, do not attempt to assemble, install or operate the product.
- Estimated assembly time: 30 minutes.
- Tools required for assembly (not included): Phillips screwdriver, pliers, wire stripper, safety glasses, electrical tape, ladder.
Care and Maintenance
Shut off main power supply before cleaning product or changing light bulbs. To clean, wipe with damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or cleaners that contain alcohol.
Assembly Instructions
Step 1: Mount the Fixture Base
Diagram Description: Shows the nipple (FF) threaded through the mounting strap (CC), with hex nuts (AA) on either side. The chain holder (EE) is being threaded onto the nipple. This assembly is then shown being attached to an outlet box using mounting screws.
Instructions: Install the chain holder (EE) onto the nipple (FF). Next, loosely thread the hex nuts (AA) onto the nipple (FF) and then thread this assembly onto the mounting strap (CC). Install this assembly to the outlet box using the mounting screws supplied with the outlet box (not included).
Step 2: Adjust Canopy Depth
Diagram Description: Shows the canopy (JJ) being slipped over the chain holder (EE). An illustration indicates adjusting the nipple (FF) up or down within the mounting strap (CC) to achieve the correct depth, ensuring at least 1/4" [6mm] of the threaded portion is exposed through the canopy hole. The diagram also shows tightening the hex nuts (AA) against the mounting strap and chain holder.
Instructions: In this step, you will adjust the depth of the chain holder in relation to the canopy depth. Take the canopy (JJ) and slip it over the chain holder (EE). You will need to adjust the chain holder so at least 1/4" of the threaded portion is exposed through the canopy hole. This is done by adjusting the depth of the nipple (FF) on the mounting strap (CC). When the chain holder (EE) is correctly adjusted, remove the canopy (JJ) and tighten the top hex nut (AA) against the mounting strap (CC) and the bottom hex nut (AA) against the chain holder (EE).
Step 3: Adjust Fixture Arms
Diagram Description: Illustrates how to carefully turn out the arms of the fixture from the center for both the P400391 (5-Light) and P400392 (6-Light) models.
Instructions: Equally adjust the arms by carefully turning them out from the center.
Step 4: Attach Chain Loop to Fixture
Diagram Description: Shows the wire passing through the chain loop (B). The chain loop (B) is then attached to the fixture (A) and secured.
Instructions: Pass the wire through the chain loop (B). Attach chain loop (B) to fixture (A) and secure tightly.
Step 5: Hang Fixture and Route Wires
Diagram Description: Depicts the chain (GG) being attached to the fixture loop (A) using a quick link (HH). The screw collar (DD) and canopy (JJ) are then threaded onto the chain. The other end of the chain (GG) is attached to the chain holder (EE) using another quick link (HH). The diagram also shows wires being woven through the chain and then passed through the screw collar (DD), canopy (JJ), and chain holder (EE) into the outlet box.
Note: Determine the hanging length by removing chain links (GG) and optionally cutting electrical/ground wires. Leave at least 6 inches MINIMUM of wire past the chain holder (EE) for connections.
Instructions: Once hanging length is determined, open one quick link (HH). Hook the quick link (HH) onto one end of the chain (GG) and to the fixture chain loop (A). Close the quick link (HH) and secure it tightly. Pass the screw collar (DD) and the canopy (JJ) onto the chain. Open the other quick link (HH). Hook the quick link (HH) onto the other end of the chain (GG) and to the chain holder (EE). Close the quick link (HH) and secure it tightly. You can now weave the wires through every third chain link (GG). Continue to pass the wires through the screw collar (DD), canopy (JJ) and chain holder (EE) and up into the outlet box.
Step 6: Connect Electrical Wires
Diagram Description: Shows wire stripping (3/8" insulation removed). The ribbed fixture wire is connected to the white supply wire using a wire connector (BB). The smooth fixture wire is connected to the black supply wire using a wire connector (BB). The fixture ground wire and supply ground wire are connected using a wire connector or fastened to the ground screw on the mounting strap. All connections are pushed into the outlet box.
Instructions: Strip 3/8" of insulation from the electrical wire ends. Using wire connector (BB), connect the RIBBED fixture wire to the WHITE supply wire from the outlet box; connect the SMOOTH fixture wire to the BLACK supply wire from the outlet box. Connect the fixture ground wire and supply ground wire using a wire connector or by fastening to the ground screw on the mounting strap. Push all wire connections into the outlet box.
Step 7: Secure the Canopy
Diagram Description: Illustrates tucking the wires into the outlet box and then slipping the canopy (JJ) over the chain holder (EE). The screw collar (DD) is then threaded onto the chain holder to secure the canopy tightly to the ceiling.
Instructions: Tuck the wires into the outlet box and slip the canopy (JJ) over the chain holder (EE). Thread the screw collar (DD) onto the chain holder to secure the canopy tightly to the ceiling.
Step 8: Install Lamps
Diagram Description: Shows the final fixture with lamps being screwed into the sockets.
Instructions: Thread the lamps (not included) into the fixture sockets. Use 60-watt MAX incandescent candelabra base, SBCFL or SBLED.
