Important Information
Battery
The battery installed at the factory may discharge during shipping and storage. If the display becomes dim, replace the battery at a CASIO authorized service center or distributor.
Water Resistance
For all watch categories, it is prohibited to:
- Press buttons underwater.
- Set hands underwater.
- Unscrew the crown underwater.
If the watch is exposed to saltwater, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water and dry it. Do not wear watches with leather straps while swimming. Avoid prolonged contact of leather straps with water.
Water Resistance Ratings
Watches are classified by rating (I to V) according to their degree of water resistance. Consult the table below to determine correct usage.
Rating | Case Marking | Splashes, Rain, etc. | Swimming, Car Washing, etc. | Underwater Swimming, Diving, etc. | Scuba Diving |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
I | - | No | No | No | No |
II | WATER RESISTANT | Yes | No | No | No |
III | 50 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | No | No |
IV | 100 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
V | 200 M WATER RESISTANT / 300 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Notes:
- Rating I: Not water-resistant. Avoid all moisture.
Water Resistance Explanations
- II WR (Water Resistant): Waterproof according to ISO 2281. Brief contact with water causes no problems.
- III 5 Bar (50 meters): Can withstand water pressure. Suitable for showering and brief swimming.
- IV 10 Bar (100 meters): Suitable for regular swimming and snorkeling.
- V 20 Bar (200 meters): Suitable for scuba diving (excluding depths requiring a helium-oxygen mix).
Watch Care
General Care
- Never attempt to open the case or remove the back cover yourself.
- The gasket protecting the watch from water and dust should be replaced every 2-3 years.
- If moisture enters the watch, have it checked immediately by a dealer or CASIO distributor.
- Do not expose the watch to extreme temperatures.
- Wear the watch carefully and avoid drops, even though designed for active daily use.
- Do not fasten the strap too tightly; a finger should fit between your wrist and the strap.
- For cleaning, use a dry soft cloth or a soft cloth dampened with a mild neutral detergent solution. Never use volatile substances (e.g., gasoline, solvents, spray cleaners).
- Store the watch in a dry place when not in use.
- Avoid contact with gasoline, solvents, spray aerosols, adhesives, paint, etc., as chemical reactions can damage gaskets, the case, and polish.
Care for Specific Materials
- Plastic Straps: A white powdery substance may appear on the strap; it is harmless and removable by wiping. Sweat or moisture can damage plastic straps; wipe them clean with a soft cloth to ensure longevity.
- Fluorescent Cases/Straps: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or moisture can cause the fluorescent color to fade. Wipe off any moisture immediately. Contact with other wet surfaces can cause discoloration.
Condensation
Slight condensation may form on the inner side of the glass in conditions of rapid temperature change. This is a normal physical phenomenon and not a defect.
Disclaimer

Model Variations
Watches may differ slightly from the illustrations in this manual. Some models use hands and rotating discs to display information. In this manual, "hands" refers to both analog hands and rotating discs.
Watch Dials and Crown Operations
Illustrations show watch faces for modules 5434, 5451, 5490, 5541, with labels for hour, minute, 24-hour, stopwatch minute, stopwatch second hands, date indicator, buttons (A, B), and crown.
Crown positions: 1 click, 2 clicks.
Screw-Lock Crown
Some models with 100m or 200m water resistance have a screw-lock crown. To use, unscrew it (turn towards you) to unlock, then pull it out. Do not use excessive force. The watch is not water-resistant when the crown is unscrewed. After use, return the crown to its normal position and screw it back in to lock.
Rotating Bezel
If your watch has a rotating bezel, align the mark with the minute hand. This allows you to track elapsed time.
Stopwatch Usage
The stopwatch measures elapsed time in 1-second increments.
Measurement limits: 29 minutes 59 seconds (for modules 5434, 5451, 5541) or 9 minutes 59 seconds (for module 5490).
Stopwatch Operation Diagrams
Measuring Intervals: Start → Stop → Repeat Start → Stop → Reset.
Measuring Split Times: Start → Split → Cancel Split → Stop → Reset.
Displaying Intermediate and Finish Results: Start → Split (1st athlete, display time) → Cancel Split (display time) → Stop (2nd athlete, display time) → Reset.
Attention: Do not use the stopwatch when the crown is pulled out.
Note: Stopwatch measurement automatically stops after 30 minutes (modules 5434, 5451, 5541) or 10 minutes (module 5490).
Stopwatch Hand Adjustment
If stopwatch hands do not return to the zero mark after reset, follow this procedure:
- Pull the crown to the 2nd click.
- Use Button A (clockwise) or Button B (counter-clockwise) to move the stopwatch second and minute hands to the zero mark.
- Hold a button for accelerated hand movement.
- Stopwatch minute hand movement is synchronized with the second hand.
- Return the crown to its normal position after completing the adjustment.
Attention: Current time measurement stops when the crown is pulled out. Correct the current time after adjusting the stopwatch hands.
