Fortin THAR-FOR1 Harness Installation
Vehicle Compatibility
This installation guide is for the Fortin THAR-FOR1 T-Harness, designed for the following vehicle:
- Vehicle: FORD Transit
- Years: 2015-2019
Firmware and Options
To add or update firmware versions and options, use the FLASH LINK UPDATER or FLASH LINK MOBILE tool (sold separately).
Bypass Option: Hood Trigger
If the vehicle is NOT equipped with a functional hood pin, the bypass option can be programmed. For this, set Unit Option A11 to OFF (NON). This configures the hood trigger as an output status, indicating the hood contact state.
Parts Required (Not Included)
- 1x 10Amp Fuse
- 4x 3Amp Diode
- 1x 1 Amp diode
- 1x THAR-FOR1 Harness
Important Notes
ATTENTION: The T-Harness current is limited to 10 AMP MAXIMUM.
If a parking lights (+) wire is used, it requires more than 10Amp. Connect the remote-starter's power directly to the vehicle's battery with the appropriate fuse.
Some remote starters cannot be powered through Data-Link. In these cases, connect the remote starter's fused 12V power wire directly to the T-Harness.
Mandatory Installation: Hood Pin
The hood pin switch is a mandatory safety element and MUST be installed.
- Hood Status: The hood pin switch must be installed.
- If the vehicle can be remote started with the hood open, set function A11 to OFF (NON).
Safety Notice
The installation of safety elements is mandatory. The hood pin is an essential security element and must be installed.
Installation Warning
This module must be installed by a qualified technician. Incorrect connections can cause permanent damage to the vehicle.
Component Descriptions
- Ignition Barrel: The location where the vehicle key is inserted and turned.
- OBD-II Connector: Typically located under the dashboard, used for diagnostic communication and CAN bus signals (CAN HIGH, CAN LOW).
- BCM (Body Control Module): Located under the dashboard, this module manages various vehicle functions. Connections are made to specific BCM connectors (e.g., 46-pin, 76-pin).
- Module RX and TX Wires: These wires facilitate communication between the THAR-FOR1 module and the vehicle's CAN bus system.
- Parking Lights Wires: Connections are made to the vehicle's parking light circuits (front right, rear right, front left, rear left).
Wiring Connections Overview
The THAR-FOR1 harness connects to various points in the vehicle to integrate remote start functionality. Key connection points and wire functions include:
- Ignition Barrel: Connections for (+) Ignition.
- BCM Connectors: Connections for various vehicle signals such as (-) Hood Status, (-) Hand Brake, (-) Trunk Release, (+/-) Tachometer, (+) Foot Brake, (-) Ground While Running, (-) Door Status, (-) Unlock, (-) Lock, and Parking Lights (+).
- OBD-II Connector: For CAN HIGH and CAN LOW signals.
- Harness Connectors: Specific pin assignments (e.g., A1-A20, C1-C5) are detailed for connecting to the module and vehicle components.
Ensure the correct 10Amp fuse and specified 3Amp/1Amp diodes are used as per the wiring diagram.
Key Bypass Programming Procedures
Procedure 1: With 2 Keys Required
This procedure is for programming the key bypass when two vehicle keys are available.
-
Step 1: Initialization
Press and hold the programming button. Connect the 4-Pin Data-Link harness (Black connector). The LED will alternate between Blue, Yellow, Red, and Blue & Red flashes. Release the programming button when the LED is solid RED. If the LED is not solid RED, disconnect the Data-Link connector and restart from Step 1.
-
Step 2: Connect Remaining Components
Insert the required remaining connectors.
-
Step 3: First Key Programming
Turn the first functional key to the ON/RUN position. Wait 3 seconds.
-
Step 4: Remove First Key
Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the first key.
-
Step 5: Second Key Programming
Turn the second functional key to the ON/RUN position. Wait 3 seconds.
-
Step 6: Remove Second Key
Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the second key.
-
Step 7: Confirmation
The RED and BLUE LEDs will flash rapidly ten (10) times, indicating Key Bypass is programmed. The BLUE LED will flash rapidly, indicating CAN-Bus is programmed. If the LED is solid RED, disconnect the Data-Link connector and restart from Step 1.
Procedure 2: For Vehicles Without Immobilizer Wire
This procedure is for programming vehicles that do not have an immobilizer wire.
-
Step 1: Initialization
Press and hold the programming button. Connect the 4-PIN Data-link harness (Black connector). The Blue, Red, Yellow, and Blue & Red LEDs will illuminate alternatively. Release the programming button when the LED is BLUE. If the LED is not solid BLUE, disconnect the Data-Link connector and restart from Step 1.
-
Step 2: Connect Remaining Components
Insert the required remaining connectors.
-
Step 3: Ignition ON
Turn the key to the Ignition ON/RUN position. The BLUE LED will flash rapidly.
-
Step 4: Ignition OFF
Turn the key to the OFF position. The BLUE LED will turn off.
Module Programming Complete
The module is now programmed. Use the remote of the remote starter or security system to test all supported features to ensure proper programming.
