Land Rover Vehicle Systems Guide
Hill Descent Control (HDC)
The Hill Descent Control (HDC) system allows the vehicle's speed to be limited to a set value when descending a slope. It is recommended not to descend steep slopes if HDC is not functioning or if warning messages are displayed.
1. HDC System Activation/Deactivation: HDC can be engaged at speeds below 80 km/h (50 mph) and operates at speeds less than 50 km/h (31 mph). It can be used in Drive (D), Reverse (R), and all CommandShift gears. When in Drive (D), the most suitable gear is automatically selected. HDC may automatically engage with certain Terrain Response programs. If system criteria are not met, the HDC warning lamp will flash, indicating it is active but not functioning. The set speed will be displayed as a green marker on the speedometer. If HDC is deactivated while operating, the indicator will flash, and the system will disengage gradually, allowing the vehicle to accelerate smoothly.
If the vehicle speed exceeds 50 km/h (31 mph) while HDC is engaged, HDC will be temporarily suspended, indicated by a flashing HDC indicator and a message on the information display. If the speed exceeds 80 km/h (50 mph), HDC will be deactivated, and the indicator will extinguish. Pressing the brake pedal during HDC operation will cause a pulsation, and HDC will resume when the pedal is released. HDC automatically deactivates if the ignition is turned off for more than 6 hours.
2. Increasing Descent Speed: Each gear has a set maximum speed. The vehicle's speed will only increase on slopes steep enough to generate sufficient kinetic energy. Pressing the '+' button on a gentle slope may not increase the vehicle's speed.
3. Decreasing Descent Speed: Each gear has a set minimum speed. If a malfunction is detected, an HDC FAULT SYSTEM NOT AVAILABLE message will appear, and the system will gradually cease to function. If a malfunction occurs during operation, HDC will gradually stop working. Contact a dealer or authorized workshop as soon as possible.
Hill Start Assist (HSA) Function: If the vehicle is stopped on a slope using the brake pedal while HDC is active, HSA will engage (except when using the 'Sand' program in Terrain Response). If the driver releases the brake pedal on an incline, HSA will automatically provide a delay and gradual release of the brakes for a smooth start. When descending a slope, similar braking lock and gradual release are used for a smooth HDC engagement. HSA operates in forward and reverse gears and does not require driver intervention.
Warning Messages: Do not attempt to descend steep slopes if HDC is not working or if warning messages are displayed.
Brake Temperature: In demanding conditions, HDC may cause brake temperatures to exceed limits. In such cases, the message HDC TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE will appear. The HDC system will gradually reduce its operation and become temporarily inactive. Once the brakes cool down, the message will disappear (or the indicator will extinguish), and HDC will resume operation if required.
Wade Sensing
The Wade Sensing system assists the driver when driving through water obstacles. It can be activated or deactivated via the 4x4i menu or Extra Features. When activated, the touchscreen will display the current water depth and maximum wading depth. The system warns the driver when approaching the maximum wading depth. Warnings are displayed as messages on the touchscreen or instrument panel, accompanied by a sequence of audible signals. If operating limits are exceeded, the touchscreen display will turn grey, and water depth will no longer be shown.
Wade Sensing is disabled if the vehicle speed exceeds 10 km/h (6 mph) or the slope angle exceeds 10°. It automatically reactivates when the speed drops to 10 km/h (6 mph). If the vehicle speed exceeds 30 km/h (19 mph) for 30 seconds, Wade Sensing will automatically deactivate.
For improved Wade Sensing performance, the suspension should be set to the off-road height. Wade Sensing does not operate if the vehicle is equipped with fixed side steps. However, it will function with side protection tubes and retractable side steps in the stowed position. Wade Sensing does not operate if the exterior mirrors are in the stowed position. Parking assistance, automatic parking, side view, and Stop/Start systems are deactivated when Wade Sensing is active.
Note: For Wade Sensing to function correctly, the exterior mirrors must be in their normal (extended) position.
It is not recommended to use the Wade Sensing function while driving off-road, as a rapid increase in water depth may not be noticed in time, and the driver warning will be delayed. When entering water on a steep descent, the water level may rise sharply. The Wade Sensing system cannot determine water levels if there is ice or snow on the surface. The parking assistance system does not operate when the Wade Sensing function is active. The sensors for Wade Sensing are located at the bottom of the exterior mirrors. The sensors and the area beneath them must be kept clean of snow, ice, dirt, and other contaminants. If the sensors are dirty, they may miscalculate the distance.
Camera System
Accessing the camera home screen is done via the Extra features menu. Pressing the camera hardware button activates the junction view if reverse gear is not engaged, or the rear view if reverse gear (R) is engaged.
1. Enlarge: To enlarge a camera image, touch the image and then the Enlarge soft button. You can select and enlarge any two images by placing them side-by-side on the screen. When viewing two images, one can be selected for full-screen viewing. It can be enlarged and scrolled horizontally using the scroll arrows and the zoom tool.
2. Proximity View: This view can be activated at any time by selecting Proximity View in the main Camera screen. This button displays 3 images from the front and passenger-side cameras. 'Automatic Proximity View' is for Japan only: if the selector is moved to the forward (D) or reverse (R) gear, the space in front of or behind the vehicle is displayed. After the vehicle accelerates to 18 km/h (11 mph) or the return symbol is pressed, the camera screen closes.
3. Special Views: Select to display preset images that aid in complex maneuvering. These include: Kerb view (shows the view from 2 side cameras), Junction view (displays images from two side cameras), and Trailer view (displays an image from the rear camera when towing a trailer).
4. Camera Settings: For Japan only: select to access camera parameter settings. To disable the semi-automatic camera function, select Off. Proximity view will then only be available by manually pressing the Proximity View soft button.
5. Tow Assist: Press the button to display the Tow Assist setup screen. For proper camera operation, it is necessary to clean it from snow, ice, and dirt.
Trailer Operation: For the trailer operation function to work, a target sticker must be applied to the trailer in a specific way. For more information, contact your dealer or authorized workshop. This function may not work with all trailers. The trailer operation function assists in reversing with a trailer by displaying instructions on the touchscreen. Trailer operation is activated when a trailer is connected to the vehicle and the trailer plug is connected to the tow hitch socket. After connecting the caravan/trailer to the electrical socket, the driver's door must be opened and closed for the system to detect the connection. Several connection options will appear on the screen. Select YES to proceed to the setup screen. Select NO to return to the previous screen.
Note: If the connection is not detected, you can initiate the setup manually by pressing the Tow Assist soft button in the 'Camera' menu. Upon initial activation, the user will be prompted to set up several options for the connected trailer. To complete the setup, information such as trailer length, number of axles, and camera settings is required. Upon completion of the setup procedure, the data is saved for future use. When a new or existing trailer configuration is selected, the trailer operation function will automatically display on the touchscreen when reverse gear (R) is engaged. Colored lines indicate the calculated trajectory of the trailer and vehicle.

Television
TELEVISION SYSTEM CONTROLS
Use the system, adjust settings, and view system messages only when it is safe to do so. Prolonged exposure to loud sounds (over 85 decibels) can negatively affect hearing.
1. Source: Select the TV/video input band. Touch the button to view and select digital (DTV 1 or DTV 2 – Digital) or analog (TV – Analogue) TV broadcasting, CD/DVD, USB, or iPod.
When switching between analog and digital bands, the channel used in the selected band previously will be displayed. When switching between digital bands, the current channel will be displayed. Note: The TV/My video menu closes after 5 seconds of inactivity.
2. Video Preview Screen: Touch to switch to full-screen mode. Control elements and TV guide information (EPG) can be displayed at any time by touching the screen. To return from full-screen mode to the preview screen, press and hold your finger on the full-screen preview window.
3. Seek Backward: Browse previous channels in the list.

Press a channel in the list to display that channel and its name in the preview window. Touch the preview window of the channel to start viewing. Note: The television system continuously checks for channels, so some channels in the list may occasionally be unavailable (e.g., when the vehicle moves between different broadcast areas). Note: After changing the country's TV format, the channel list will be empty until all channels are found.
7. Preset TV Channels: Press and hold to save the current channel as a preset. The channel name will be displayed on the soft button. Press and release to select a channel saved in that preset. Note: Saved presets contain information indicating the country where they were saved. When a specific preset is selected, the TV format for that country where it was saved is also selected. Since different analog TV formats are used in different countries, a situation may arise where the analog channel list is empty. Information on using the audio/video controls on the audio system and steering wheel is provided in 210, AUDIO/VIDEO SYSTEM CONTROLS.
