Land Rover Evoque 2015: Audio and Video System Overview
General Information on the Audio/Video System
Safety First: Use the system, change settings, and view messages only when it is safe to do so. Prolonged exposure to loud sounds (over 85 decibels) can negatively affect hearing.
System Controls:
- Power Button (1): Press to turn the system on or off. The audio system may operate with the ignition on or off but will always switch off when the ignition is turned off. Press again to turn it back on. Rotate to adjust volume.
- SETUP Button (2): Press for direct access to the Settings menu. If Park Assist is installed, this button may change to activate/deactivate Park Assist. Access to Settings is via the touchscreen.
- HOME MENU Button (3): Press for direct access to the Home menu.
- Touchscreen (4): The primary interface for system interaction.
- MODE Button (5): Press repeatedly to cycle through audio/video sources. On dual-screen systems, this button may also activate/deactivate the dual-screen mode.
- AUDIO VIDEO Button (6): Press for direct access to the Audio/Video menu, which may include options like Radio, DAB Radio, My Music, My Video, and Rear Media.
- CD/DVD Slot (7): For inserting CDs and DVDs. Only one disc can be inserted at a time. The system can store up to 10 CDs in the 'Stored CD' library. Only CDDA format CDs can be stored. Insert discs until slight resistance is felt, then the mechanism will complete the insertion.
- Seek Forward Button (8): Briefly press to automatically seek the next radio station or track. Press and hold for manual seek or fast forward.
- CD/DVD Eject Button (9): Press to eject the current disc.
- Seek Backward Button (10): Briefly press to automatically seek the previous radio station or track. Press and hold for manual seek or rewind.
- Steering Wheel Controls: Buttons on the steering wheel provide access to various functions, including MODE, volume adjustment (12, 13), seek backward (14), and seek forward (15).
Audio System Settings:
To access Audio Settings, select Setup from the main menu, then Audio. Use the Tone control for bass, treble, and subwoofer adjustment. Use the Balance/Fade controls to adjust speaker output. The directional arrows on the touchscreen allow you to focus sound to specific areas of the vehicle.
Surround Sound Settings: Adjust surround sound settings using Meridian, DPLIIx, or DTS Neo:6 options. Select 2D surround for 2D surround sound or Stereo to disable it. Note that surround sound options may not be available for all sources.
Disc Loading:
- Do not force discs into the slot.
- Do not use irregularly shaped discs or discs with attached protective film or labels.
- The system plays CDDA format CDs and MP3, WMA, WAV, and AAC files.
- The player has a single-disc slot but can store up to 10 CDs in virtual storage. Only CDDA discs can be stored.
- Do not use dual-layer discs or discs with unusual shapes, as they may not be compatible or may get stuck.
- Use only high-quality, undeformed 12 cm (4.7 inch) discs.
- Playback of recordable (CD-R) and rewritable (CD-RW) discs is not guaranteed. Playback of DVD-R and DVD+R discs may also be problematic.
Licenses: The system incorporates Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic IIx technologies, manufactured under license from Dolby Laboratories.
Radio Operation
Radio Controls:
- AM/FM Button (1): Selects the frequency band. The last used station in that band will be activated. Press again to close the option.
- Station Information (2): Displays information about the current station.
- Seek Backward Button (3): Automatically seeks the previous station or manually seeks backward.
- Information Button (4): Displays additional information from the broadcasting station.
- Seek Forward Button (5): Automatically seeks the next station or manually seeks forward.
- Settings Button (6): Accesses settings for RDS, Traffic, News, AF (Alternative Frequencies), and REG (Regionalisation).
- Station List Button (7): Displays a list of available stations in the current FM band. Stations can be sorted by Frequency, Name, or PTY (Programme Type).
- Frequency Input Button (8): Allows direct input of a known frequency.
- Station Presets Button (9): Allows saving up to 6 stations per frequency band. Press to tune to a preset station, or press and hold to save the current station.
RDS (Radio Data System): The radio receiver supports RDS, which provides additional information along with the FM radio signal. Not all FM stations broadcast RDS information. RDS settings can be accessed via the Settings menu.
- Traffic/News: Provides local traffic and news updates.
- Regionalisation (REG): Prevents tuning to another local station with a stronger signal.
- Alternative Frequency (AF): Automatically retunes the radio to a stronger signal of the same station when moving between broadcast zones.
DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting)
DAB Radio Controls:
- DAB 1/2/3 Button (1): Selects the DAB band (1, 2, or 3). The last used channel in that band will be activated.
- Channel Information (2): Displays current channel, group, and text information.
- Seek Backward Button (3): Seeks the previous channel or group.
- Channel Information Button (4): Displays text information and data broadcast by DAB channels.
- Seek Forward Button (5): Seeks the next channel or group.
- Settings Button (6): Accesses DAB settings.
- Channel List Button (7): Displays available groups and channels, sortable by Ensemble, Channel, Subchannel, or Category.
- Subchannel Button (8): Activates subchannel selection if available for the current channel.
- Auto-tune Button (9): Searches for all available DAB groups/channels. Recommended before first use or when traveling to new regions.
- Presets Button (10): Allows saving up to six stations per DAB band.
DAB Settings:
- Options: Enable/disable FM Traffic and Link DAB, change country, and digital broadcasting format.
- Announcements: Selects alert messages and up to three other types of announcements (traffic, news, etc.) that can interrupt current broadcasts.
- DAB Country: Select the country when entering a new region for automatic retuning.
- DAB Format: Select the appropriate format (L Band, Band III, etc.) if traveling in a region with a different digital broadcast range.
Groups: In DAB, multiple stations/channels are broadcast on a single frequency, forming a group. Some channels may have subchannels for selection.
Portable Devices
Portable Device Controls:
- Source Button (1): Selects the source for audio/video playback (DVD, CD, USB, iPod, etc.).
- Display Information (2): Shows current track information, including playback time. This information is displayed for devices supporting ID3 tags.
- Settings Button (3): Adjusts settings for traffic announcements and news. For MP3 devices, allows selection of the number of tracks to skip.
- Track List Button (4): Displays the track list for the current CD or stored CDs.
- Browse Button (5): For iPod, USB, and stored CDs, allows browsing of device contents. Select a file to play.
- Upload Button (6): For 'Stored CD' menu, allows uploading CDs to the system's storage.
- Skip/Seek Forward (7): Moves to the next track or fast forwards.
- Repeat Button (8): Repeats the current track, disc, or folder. Can be deselected. Note: Repeat is not available for Bluetooth devices. Shuffle mode cancels Repeat mode.
- Pause/Play Button (9): Pauses and resumes playback.
- Information Button (10): Displays additional information about the current track.
- Shuffle Button (11): Plays tracks in a random order. 'Shuffle all' plays all tracks randomly. Can be deselected. Note: Shuffle is not available for Bluetooth devices.
- Skip/Seek Backward (12): Moves to the previous track or rewinds.
Connecting Portable Devices:
- Portable devices connect to a unit in the glove compartment. Rear passengers can use the auxiliary connections in the center console. Supported devices include USB drives (FAT/FAT32 format), iPods (Classic, Touch, iPhone, Nano - full functionality not guaranteed for older models), and Bluetooth devices.
- Devices connected via the auxiliary input are controlled directly from the device.
- For iPod, USB, and Bluetooth devices, control and search can be done via the touchscreen.
- Do not leave iPods connected when leaving the vehicle to prevent battery drain.
- The audio system supports MP3, WMA, and AAC files. For best quality, use lossless compression or a high bitrate (192 kbps or higher).
- Some MP3 players may have proprietary file systems that are not supported. They may need to be set to USB Mass Storage mode.
- Check the Land Rover website (www.landrover.com) for a list of compatible Bluetooth devices.
- External hard drives are not recommended for use while driving.
Connecting Multiple Devices: USB ports are for audio devices only. Multiple devices can be connected and switched using the touchscreen. The first connected device remains active until switched. Returning to a previously connected USB or iPod device resumes playback from where it left off.
Pairing and Connecting via Bluetooth®:
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device and it is in discoverable mode.
- In the main menu, select Audio/Video, then My Music, then Bluetooth.
- Select 'Change device' > 'Device to vehicle'.
- Search for Bluetooth devices on your portable device. Follow on-screen prompts to pair and connect. You may need to enter a PIN.
- Some devices may require manual connection after initial pairing.
Changing or Disconnecting Devices: Select 'Change device' from the Bluetooth menu, then 'Disconnect'. You can then search for new devices or select a paired device.
Television
Television System Controls:
- Source Button (1): Selects the TV/video input source (DTV 1/2, TV-Analogue, CD/DVD, USB, iPod).
- Preview Screen (2): Touch to enter full-screen mode. The EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) can be accessed by touching the screen.
- Analogue TV Display Format: Select aspect ratios (4:3, 16:9) or 'Zoom'.
- Digital TV Display Format: Select original format (4:3 or 16:9) or 'Zoom'.
- Seek Backward (3): Views the previous TV channel.
- Seek Forward (4): Views the next TV channel.
- Settings Button (5): Adjusts settings for traffic/news and analogue TV formats for different countries.
- Channel List Button (6): Displays an alphabetical list of available TV channels with a preview window.
- Presets Button (7): Press and hold to save the current channel as a preset. Press briefly to tune to a preset channel. Presets may be country-specific.
Important Notes:
- The system continuously scans for channels, and some may be unavailable when moving between broadcast zones.
- Changing the TV format may result in an empty channel list until channels are found.
Multimedia Video Player
Multimedia Player Controls:
- Source Button (1): Selects the video source (DVD, CD, USB).
- Preview Screen (2): Touch to enter full-screen mode. Controls can be displayed by touching the screen.
- Settings Button (3): Accesses Options, VOD (Video on Demand), and Audio Settings. VOD allows playback of DivX VOD content and requires registration.
- Tools Button (4): Provides options such as GOTO (navigate by chapter/title), Subtitles, Camera Angle, and Audio selection.
- Menu Button (5): Accesses the media menu.
- Seek Forward (6): Advances to the next chapter or scrolls through video files.
- Pause Button (7): Pauses playback.
- Play Button (8): Resumes playback.
- Seek Backward (9): Goes to the previous chapter or scrolls backward through video files.
Video Playback Restrictions: Video display is automatically blocked while driving. The touchscreen displays a safety warning. For dual-view systems, an option to enable passenger viewing may be available.
Full-Screen Mode: Search controls function as in preview mode. Aspect ratio options (4:3, 16:9, Zoom) are available.
Dual View Mode
Dual View Controls:
- Aspect Ratio (1): Select 4:3, Zoom, or 16:9.
- Source List (2): Browse and select available video sources.
- Channel List (3): Displays a list of tuned channels. The preview screen turns off while driving.
- Current Source Information (4): Displays the name of the current TV channel or program.
- Wireless Audio (5): Enables or disables wireless audio output to headphones.
- Exit Dual View (6): Cancels dual view mode and returns to the driver's view.
- Save Audio (7): Saves the audio for the current video source when the driver's view is displayed.
- Close Menu (8): Closes the dual view management menu.
- Seek Up (9): Moves to the next channel or track on CD/DVD.
- Seek Down (10): Moves to the previous channel or track on CD/DVD.
Dual View Mode Operation:
- The front passenger can view TV or video on the touchscreen while the driver uses other systems (e.g., radio, navigation).
- When the driver selects an alternative audio source, audio plays through the car speakers. Passengers can listen via wireless headphones when viewing in dual view mode.
- Pressing the dual view activation button (located on the right side of the touchscreen) enables/disables dual view mode. Passengers can use this button to show/hide the control menu.
- The control menu is also visible on the driver's screen. Rear passengers can see both images.
Dual View Mode: Headphones
- Power (1): Turn headphones on/off.
- Audio Channel (2): Switch audio channels.
- Volume (3): Adjust headphone volume.
