Assembly Instructions
IMPORTANT! To ensure safe operation, follow these instructions carefully. Keep them for future reference. Inspect the product for damaged hardware, loose joints, missing parts, or sharp edges before assembly and each use. Adult assembly is required.
Front Wheel Assembly
- Unlock the release lever (Fig. 1a). Unfold the stroller frame by pulling backward on the handle. Lean the stroller backward so it rests on the handle and rear axle frame, with the front wheel forks pointing upward (Fig. 1b).
- Slide the front wheel onto the front forks (Fig. 2).
- Slide the retainer plate onto the front wheel. Ensure the raised tab points toward the fork and insert it into the slot on the fork. Align the tab with the slot before tightening the wheel (Fig. 3).
- With the wheel in position, install the axle nuts and tighten with a wrench. Significant resistance should be felt, and the wheel should be held tightly (Fig. 4).
- Test Wheel Installation: Lift the front of the stroller and pull down on the wheel to ensure it is secure. The wheel must not come off (Fig. 5).
- Wheel Wobble Adjustment: If the front wheel wobbles excessively, adjust the front wheel housing nut located under the footrest. To remove the footrest, reverse steps in Fig. 7. Use a standard wrench to tighten the nut (Fig. 6). DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN, as this can damage the wheel housing.
Fender Attachment
To secure the fender to the frame:
- Examine the bottom of the front fender; it has 1/4 inch diameter plastic tubes protruding (Fig. 7a).
- Align these tubes with the holes in the front frame assembly (Fig. 7b).
- Align the front fender and press onto the front frame assembly (Fig. 7c).
- Insert 2 screws through the underside of the front frame assembly into the fender's plastic tubes. Tighten screws until snug (Fig. 7d). DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.
Rear Wheel Attachment
To attach the rear wheels:
- Lean the stroller forward to rest on the front wheel.
- Align the wheel's axle with the bushing on the stroller frame. Push the wheel into the bushing until it clicks. Repeat for the other wheel (Fig. 8). Pull on the wheel to confirm it is securely in place.
- NEVER use the stroller if wheels are not locked. Contact customer service immediately if wheels are not properly secured.
Parent Tray Attachment
To attach the parent tray:
- Line up the parent tray slots with corresponding slots on the stroller frame and slide down until it locks into place (Fig. 9). Ensure the tray is secure before use.
Canopy Installation
To install the canopy:
- Attach the hook and loop fasteners sewn on the canopy flaps and frame sides near the handle (Fig. 10).
- To open the canopy: Push forward on the front edge while holding the rear in place (Fig. 11a).
- To fold the canopy: Pull backward on the front edge (Fig. 11b).
Child Tray Attachment
To attach the child tray:
- Push the tray downward onto each side of the front armrests until both side snaps into place (Fig. 12a). Ensure the tray is securely latched.
- To access the child seat: Refer to canopy folding instructions (Fig. 11b). Pull one side of the release lever (Fig. 12b) under the child tray and lift upward. Either side of the tray will lift and rotate out of the way to allow access to the front seats (Fig. 12c).
- To remove the child tray: Pull both release levers on the underside of each side of the tray and lift upward (Fig. 12d).
Basket Installation
The rear basket tube must be installed prior to use. Insert the female end of the rear basket tube into the male ends on the basket frame until it locks into place (Fig. 13).
MP3 Speaker Connection
The parent tray has speakers with an MP3 jack. Connect the male end of the speaker wire to your MP3 player or smartphone to listen to music while jogging (Fig. 14).
Infant Car Seat Installation
WARNING: Never jog or run with your newborn in the car seat position. Use for strolling only.
To position the infant car seat, face it toward the rear of the stroller. Cradle the seat on the inside of the front tray, ensuring stoppers rest on the tray (Fig. 15a). Once seated firmly, strap the short clip over the car seat through the seat belt slots and pull the strap adjuster tight (Fig. 15b). IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE SHORT CLIP IS ALWAYS TIGHTLY FASTENED. ALWAYS SECURE YOUR CHILD WITH THE CAR SEAT HARNESS. Improper use may result in serious injury or death.
To remove the Infant Car Seat, remove both short clips from the seat belt slots and pull the seat upward (Fig. 15c).
Multi-Position Handle
To adjust the handle, press the buttons to move it up or down to a comfortable position (Fig. 16).
Brakes
Before placing children in the stroller, follow these instructions:
- WARNING: Always check with your pediatrician for recommended starting age/weight for your baby in an all-terrain stroller.
- WARNING: Always set brakes when the stroller is not being pushed to prevent it from rolling away. NEVER leave the stroller unattended on a hill or incline.
To engage brakes, apply light downward pressure to the brake lever on each rear wheel. You may need slight forward/rearward movement to align the brake teeth with the wheel brake cluster (Fig. 17a). Check that the stroller does not move and brakes are applied. To release, gently lift the brake lever (Fig. 17b).
Front Wheel Lock
WARNING: Always lock the front swivel wheel in the STRAIGHT position before placing or removing children.
FALL HAZARD: To prevent tip-overs before running, jogging, or walking fast, lock the front wheel from swiveling.
The swivel jogger has a front wheel locking device that works vertically to lock and unlock the wheel (Fig. 18).
Child Securing
WARNING: Avoid serious injury from falling or sliding out. Always use the safety harness.
STRANGULATION HAZARD: Children can strangle in loose straps. Never leave a child in the seat with loose or undone straps.
The 5-point harness shoulder straps have 3 attachment positions. Select the position that places the shoulder strap level with, or below, the child's shoulder (Fig. 19a). Carefully place the child in the seat, bring the harness around the waist and over the shoulders. Place the crotch strap between the legs. Insert the male ends of the shoulder/waist belts into the buckle on the crotch strap. Tighten the harness to be snug around the child's waist and shoulders (Fig. 19b).
To release the child, push the red button on the center clasp; the two harness buckles will pop free (Fig. 20). To release individual clips, apply pressure to both sides of each male clip until released (Fig. 21). This requires moderate effort to prevent accidental release by the child.
Seatback Positioning
The seat has multiple recline positions controlled by cords and an adjuster behind the seat. To recline, pull the adjuster loop backward while pressing the side button (Fig. 22a). To move to a more upright position, grab the adjuster with one hand and pull the cords with the other (Fig. 22b). The adjuster locks automatically. The upright position is for children at least 6 months old. Always readjust the safety harness when repositioning the seatback.
Jogging with Your Stroller
WARNING: Never jog or run with your newborn in the car seat position. Use for strolling only.
STRANGULATION HAZARD! Children have strangled when straps wrapped around their neck. When not in use, hook the tether strap onto the stroller handle and keep it out of reach of children.
When jogging, use the following safety features:
- LOCK THE FRONT SWIVEL WHEELS IN STRAIGHT POSITION.
- TETHER STRAP: This strap helps maintain control in case of a fall. Remove it from the handle and attach it to your wrist (Fig. 23a, Fig. 23b).
Tires
Check tire pressure before use. DO NOT INFLATE above the maximum recommended pressure indicated on the tire sidewall. Over-inflation can cause blowouts and serious injury. NOTE: Only use a hand pump. DO NOT USE an air compressor.
If equipped with a TIRE PUMP: Remove the flexible air hose, thread the brass fitting, and attach the air nozzle to the rim's valve stem (Fig. 24). Hold the pump body, pull back the handle, then push down to inflate.
Folding and Unfolding
WARNING: Be careful when folding/unfolding to prevent finger entrapment.
CAUTION: Do not allow children near the stroller while unfolding.
To Fold:
- Engage rear wheel locks (Fig. 17a) and unlock the front wheel (Fig. 18). Close the canopy. Place the seat in the furthest recline position.
- Slide the thumb trigger to the left and squeeze the pull trigger while pushing forward on the handle (Fig. 25a).
- Release the handle and push forward until the stroller is folded. Lock the release lever to secure it (Fig. 25b).
To Unfold:
- Unlock the release lever (Fig. 26a).
- Unfold the stroller frame by pulling backward on the handle (Fig. 26b).
Maintenance
Wheel Adjustment
Vehicles with three wheels can deviate from a straight line due to factors like uneven tire pressure, improper wheel installation, road conditions, or manufacturing tolerances. If your Baby Trend stroller tracks or pulls to the left or right on flat terrain, follow the instructions on page 10 to realign the front wheel.
Flat Tires
The jogging stroller uses bicycle tires. Like bicycle tires, they can get flat. You can repair flat tires using a standard bicycle tire repair kit or take it to a bicycle shop. For frequent flat tires, consider thorn-proof inner tubes, available at bicycle stores or national retailers. Check the tire sidewall for the correct size.
