General Warnings

ATTENTION! Before using this radio, read this guide which contains important operating instructions for safe usage and RF energy awareness and control for compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

Local Government Regulations

When radios are used for employment, Local Government Regulations require users to be aware of and control their exposure to meet occupational requirements. Exposure awareness can be facilitated by product labels directing users to specific awareness information. Your Retekess radio has an RF Exposure Product Label. This user manual and separate safety booklets include information and operating instructions required to control RF exposure and satisfy compliance requirements.

Compliance with RF Exposure Standards

Your Retekess radio is designed and tested to comply with national and international standards and guidelines for human exposure to radio frequency electro-magnetic energy.

FCC ID

The FCC ID indicates: This radio complies with IEEE (FCC) and ICNIRP exposure limits for occupational/controlled RF exposure environments at operating duty factors of up to 50% talk-50% listen and is approved for occupational use only. This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Warning: Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.

Note on FCC Compliance

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment causes harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

  • Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.

Operation is subject to the following two conditions: This device may not cause interference, and This device must accept any interference, including interference that may cause undesired operation of the device. In terms of measuring RF energy for compliance with these exposure guidelines, your radio generates measurable RF energy only while transmitting (talking), not when receiving (listening) or in standby mode.

Avoid Choking Hazard

⚠️ Small Parts. Not for children under 3 years.

Protect Your Hearing

⚠️ Use the lowest volume necessary. Turn up the volume only if in noisy surroundings. Turn down the volume before adding a headset or earpiece.

Turn Off Your Radio Power In The Following Conditions:

⚠️ Turn off your radio before removing/installing a battery or accessory, or when charging. Turn off your radio in potentially hazardous environments (e.g., near electrical blasting caps, in blasting areas, explosive atmospheres with flammable gas, dust, or metallic powders). Turn off your radio while taking on fuel or parked at gasoline service stations.

To Avoid Electromagnetic Interference and/or Compatibility Conflicts:

⚠️ Turn off your radio in any facility where posted notices instruct you to do so, such as hospitals or health care facilities where sensitive medical devices (pacemakers, hearing aids) may be in use. Turn off your radio when on board an aircraft. Use must comply with applicable regulations per airline crew instructions.

Avoid Burns

⚠️ Antennas: Do not use a portable radio with a damaged antenna. Contact with a damaged antenna can cause minor burns. ⚠️ Batteries: Be cautious when handling batteries. Conductive materials like jewelry, keys, or chains touching exposed terminals can short-circuit the battery, causing heat and potential burns. Avoid placing batteries in pockets or containers with metal objects. ⚠️ Long Transmission: When transmitting for extended periods, the radiator and chassis may become hot.

Safety Operation

Forbid:

  • Do not use the charger outdoors or in moist environments; use only in dry locations.
  • Do not disassemble the charger, as this may result in electrical shock or fire.
  • Do not operate the charger if it is broken or damaged.
  • Do not place the portable radio in or near an airbag deployment area. The radio may be propelled with great force during airbag inflation, causing serious injury.

To Reduce Risk:

  • Pull the plug, not the cord, when disconnecting the charger.
  • Unplug the charger from the AC outlet before performing maintenance or cleaning.
  • Contact Retekess for assistance with repairs and service.
