Quick Start Guide
INSTEON Hub
The INSTEON Starter Kit includes the INSTEON Hub, the central controller for your smart home system.
INSTEON Hub Diagram:
A grey rectangular device labeled "INSTEON Hub".
Status LED: Located on the front, indicates device status. Green signifies 'Idle', flashing blue indicates 'Linking', and flashing red indicates 'Unlinking'.
Ethernet Port: A standard RJ45 port located on the front of the Hub for network connection.
Power: A DC power input port located on the rear of the Hub.
Factory Reset Button: A small button located on the rear of the Hub, used for resetting the device to factory defaults.
Included Cables: The kit includes one Ethernet cable for network connection and one power cable for powering the Hub.
INSTEON On/Off Module
The kit also includes an INSTEON On/Off Module, which allows you to control lights and appliances.
INSTEON On/Off Module Diagram:
A compact, grey module labeled "On/Off Module".
Status LED: Indicates the module's state. Green means 'On', Red means 'Off'.
On/Off Buttons: Physical buttons on the module for manual control.
Set Button: Used for linking and configuration.
Maximum Load: The module can control loads up to 1,800 Watts or 15 Amps.
Controllable Devices: Icons represent devices like a fan ?️, a table lamp ?, and a space heater ♨️, indicating the module's versatility.
Setup Your Kit
Step 1: Connect the Hub
Connect the INSTEON Hub to power and your internet router using only the cables provided.
Correct Setup: The INSTEON Hub is shown connected directly to a wall power outlet via its power cable and to an internet router via an Ethernet cable. A green checkmark ✔️ confirms this is the recommended configuration.
Incorrect Setup: The diagram shows the Hub plugged into a power strip, which is then plugged into a wall outlet. A red 'X' ❌ symbol indicates this is not recommended. Avoid power strips and switched outlets.
Step 2: Download the App
Download and install the latest INSTEON for Hub App from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Amazon App Store.
Smartphone Interface: A smartphone screen displays the "INSTEON for Hub" app icon (a house with a hand) and an "INSTALL" button. Text indicates the app is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Amazon App Store.
Scan the QR Code and tap your store. [QR Code excluded]
Step 3: Create an Account
Connect to the same network as the INSTEON Hub and launch the App. Create a new account.
INSTEON App: A smartphone screen shows the INSTEON app interface with options to "Sign In" or "Create an Account".
Add Devices
Follow the on-screen instructions in the INSTEON for Hub App to add your On/Off Modules and other INSTEON devices.
Add Device Prompt: A smartphone screen displays a large, prominent green plus symbol ➕, representing the action to add new devices within the app.
Remote Access
You can monitor and control your devices when away if you set up Remote Access. Go to Settings > House > Remote Access Guide to configure port forwarding.
Global Connectivity: An illustration of the Earth ? with a house and an airplane ✈️ flying around it symbolizes the ability to access and control home devices from anywhere in the world.

Create a Schedule
Schedules can be set for individual devices or entire scenes. Go to Settings and tap Schedules.
Scheduling Options: Three circular icons represent scheduling capabilities: a clock ⏰ for time-based schedules, a sun ☀️ for daytime events, and a moon/stars ? for nighttime events.
Add More Control
Control everything from light switches to pool pumps with additional INSTEON devices.
Expanded Smart Home Control: A visual array showcases various INSTEON devices, including wall switches, keypads, dimmers, outlets, and modules for lights, fans, and appliances. Specific diagrams illustrate wiring connections for different modules, showing connections for Line (L), Neutral (N), Load (L1), and Sense.

Add Sensors for Alerts
Let INSTEON sensors monitor your home for you, keeping track of motion, doors & windows, water leaks, smoke, and even your garage door.
INSTEON Sensors: Illustrations depict various smart home sensors, including a motion sensor, a door/window sensor, a water leak detector, and a smoke detector. Other devices shown include a Hub and a plug-in device.
