Seiko V14J Watch User Manual

Key Features

Watch Components: The watch features an hour hand, minute hand, second hand, day of the week indicator, 24-hour sub-dial, date indicator, and a crown. The crown may be a screw-lock type on some models.

Charging and Starting the Watch

If the watch has stopped or the battery charge is very low, place it in light to charge.

Instant Start Function

When exposed to sunlight or strong artificial light (over 1000 lux), the watch will start immediately. Initially, the second hand may move in 2-second intervals due to insufficient stored energy. Keep the watch in light until the second hand moves in 1-second intervals.

Charging Steps:

  1. Place the watch under a light source.
  2. Continue charging until the second hand moves in 1-second intervals, indicating sufficient charge.
  3. Once the watch has started after a full stop, set the date and time before wearing it.

Important Notes on Charging:

Setting Time, Day, and Date

Setting the Time

Steps:

  1. Pull the crown out to the second click when the second hand is at the 12 o'clock position.
  2. Turn the crown to set the time. Set the minute hand 4-5 minutes ahead of the desired time, then return it to the exact time.
  3. Push the crown back to its normal position simultaneously with a time signal.

Attention: For models with a screw-lock crown, always screw the crown back down securely after setting.

Setting the Day

The day indicator cannot be set independently. Set the day by advancing the hour and minute hands before setting the time.

  1. Pull the crown out completely to the second click.
  2. Turn the crown clockwise to advance the hour and minute hands. The day indicator will advance when the hour and minute hands pass the 12 o'clock position.
  3. Continue advancing the hands until the day indicator shows the next day.
  4. For faster setting: Advance the hour and minute hands past the 12 o'clock position to the next day, then turn them back 4-5 hours. Then, advance them again until the day indicator shows the desired day. Repeat this procedure until the day is correctly set.
  5. After setting the day, set the time. Ensure the 24-hour hand is set correctly when setting the hour hand.

Setting the Date

Steps:

  1. Pull the crown out to the first click.
  2. Turn the crown to set the date.
  3. Push the crown back to its normal position.

Attention: For models with a screw-lock crown, always screw the crown back down securely after setting.

Important Notes for Date Setting:

Watch Care and Functions

Monthly Accuracy

The watch maintains an accuracy of less than ±20 seconds per month under normal temperature conditions (5°C - 35°C / 41°F - 95°F).

Operating Temperature Range

The watch operates within a temperature range of -5°C to 50°C (23°F to 122°F).

Power Depletion Warning Function

When the stored energy in the rechargeable battery drops to a very low level, the second hand will start moving in 2-second intervals instead of the normal 1-second interval. The watch will continue to display the correct time even with this 2-second interval movement. If this occurs, charge the watch as soon as possible by placing it in light. If not charged, the watch may stop approximately 3 days later.

Power Memo

This watch uses a rechargeable battery, which differs from conventional disposable batteries. It can be recharged repeatedly. However, the efficiency of the rechargeable battery may gradually decrease over time due to long-term use or operating conditions. If the battery's efficiency is significantly reduced, the watch may require servicing.

Warning: Do not attempt to replace the rechargeable battery yourself. This requires professional knowledge and skills. Please consult an authorized Seiko dealer or service center for battery replacement.

How to Wind a Screw-Lock Crown

(For models equipped with a screw-lock crown)

Rotating Bezel

(For models equipped with a rotating bezel)

The rotating bezel can be used to measure elapsed time up to 60 minutes.

  1. Rotate the bezel to align its marker (e.g., a triangle or dot) with the minute hand.
  2. Read the time elapsed by observing the position of the minute hand on the bezel markers. For example, if the minute hand points to the '30' mark on the bezel, 30 minutes have elapsed since the bezel was set.

Note: On some models, the rotating bezel may only rotate counter-clockwise.
