Seiko Solar Watch User Manual

Properties

  • Operate on solar energy.
  • No battery replacement needed (refer to "Power Reserve Notice" on page 101).
  • Retain operating capability for 2-12 months after full charge (depending on caliber).
  • Power depletion pre-warning function (for calibers V111, V117, V137, V145, V147, V157, V158, V181, V182, V187 only).
  • Instant start function (for calibers V145, V147, V157, V158, V181, V182, V187 only).
  • Overcharge prevention function.

Your Watch Caliber Number: Identify your watch caliber number, which is indicated on the case back of your watch. As shown in the diagram, the caliber number is the 4-digit number located to the left of the hyphen (e.g., V145-0A00).

How to Charge and Start the Watch

If the watch has stopped or the second hand moves at 2-second intervals, charge the watch by exposing it to light.

Instant Start Function: If the watch is exposed to sunlight or strong artificial light (over 1000 lux), it will start immediately, with the second hand moving at 2-second intervals.

  1. Place the watch under sunlight or strong artificial light. (Diagram: Light rays hitting a watch face).
  2. Keep the watch in light until the second hand moves at 1-second intervals.
  3. Once the watch has started after a complete stop, set the date and time before wearing it. Refer to "Charging Time / Accuracy Guide".

Notes:

  • If the watch has a second hand, after the instant start function is activated by exposure to light, the second hand will move at 2-second intervals initially because the rechargeable battery's stored energy is insufficient. The watch may stop if removed from light.
  • It is not necessary to fully charge the watch. However, it is important to charge it well, especially for the initial charge.

Precautions for Charging:

  • Do not place the watch too close to camera flashes, spotlights, incandescent lamps, or other light sources, as this may cause excessive temperature rise and damage internal parts.
  • When charging the watch under sunlight, do not leave it on car dashboards, etc., as this may cause excessive temperature rise.
  • When charging the watch, ensure its temperature does not exceed 50°C (for calibers V110, V145, V181, V182).
  • When charging the watch, ensure its temperature does not exceed 60°C (for calibers V111, V114, V115, V116, V117, V137, V147, V157, V158, V187).

Setting Time and Calendar

Models with 2-hand/3-hand:

  1. Pull out the crown to the first click.
  2. Turn the crown to set the desired time.
  3. Push the crown back to its normal position (in accordance with the time signal for 3-hand models).

Models with Date:

  1. Pull out the crown to the second click and set the previous day's date.
  2. Pull out the crown to the second click when the second hand points to the 12 o'clock position.
  3. Set the desired date by turning the crown.
  4. Set the hour and minute hands to the desired time by turning the crown.
  5. Push the crown back to its normal position in accordance with the time signal.

Models with Day of the Week and Date:

  1. Pull out the crown to the first click and set the previous day of the week and date.
  2. Pull out the crown to the second click when the second hand points to the 12 o'clock position.
  3. Turn the crown until the desired day of the week and date appear in the window on the dial.
  4. Turn the crown to set the minute and hour hands to the desired time.
  5. Push the crown back to its normal position in accordance with the time signal.

Notes on Date Setting

  • Do not set the date between 9:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. Otherwise, the date may change incorrectly. If you need to set the date during this interval, first set the time to any time outside this interval, set the date, and then reset the correct time.
  • When setting the hour hand, ensure the AM/PM is set correctly. The watch is designed so that the date changes once every 24 hours. Turn the hands past the 12 o'clock mark to determine if the watch is set to AM or PM. If the date changes, it is AM. If the date does not change, it is PM.
  • When setting the minute hand, first set it 4-5 minutes past the desired time, then move it back to the exact time.
  • The date must be adjusted at the end of February and for 30-day months.

Charging Time / Accuracy Guide

Notes:

  • The watch uses a rechargeable battery, different from standard silver-oxide batteries. It can be recharged repeatedly.
  • Rechargeability may degrade over time due to usage, operating conditions, or maintenance issues. If degradation occurs, the watch needs repair.

Warning:

  • Do not attempt to replace the rechargeable battery yourself. It requires professional knowledge. Contact a watch shop for replacement.
  • Installing a standard silver-oxide battery may cause overheating, leading to fire.

Power Depletion Pre-warning Function:

If the rechargeable battery's energy level becomes critically low, the second hand will move at 2-second intervals instead of the normal 1-second interval (not available on all calibers). The watch continues to display the correct time even with the 2-second interval. In this case, charge the watch as soon as possible by exposing it to light. Otherwise, the watch may stop approximately 3 days later. (Refer to "How to Charge and Start the Watch" for charging).

To Prevent Power Depletion:

  • When wearing the watch, ensure it is not covered by clothing.
  • When the watch is not in use, place it in a bright location for as long as possible.

How to Operate the Screw-Lock Crown

(For models with screw-lock crown)

  • To unscrew the crown: Turn the crown counter-clockwise (Then pull out the crown to set the time/calendar).
  • To screw in the crown: With the crown in the normal position, turn it clockwise while pushing it in.

Rotating Bezel (For Models with Rotating Bezel)

The rotating bezel can indicate up to 60 minutes of elapsed time.

  1. Turn the rotating bezel to align the "●" mark with the minute hand. (Diagram: Bezel turning, minute hand pointing to a mark).
  2. Read the time indicated by the minute hand on the rotating bezel.

Note: On some models, the rotating bezel rotates only counter-clockwise.
