Product Overview

The Brookstone WiFi Smart Hub is a versatile power solution designed for smart homes, featuring three independently controllable AC outlets and four Smart USB ports with a combined 4.8A output. This device allows for remote control via Wi-Fi, app control, and voice control through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. It also supports programmable schedules for automated power management.

The device is a white rectangular unit with three AC outlets on the front face, arranged vertically. Below the outlets are four USB ports. A central screw is present for securing the hub to an existing outlet. On the bottom left, there is a circular On/Off button, which also serves as a reset button. Individual power buttons for each outlet are located on the top edge of the device.

Download the Brookstone Smart App

  1. For Android devices, download the "Brookstone Smart" app from Google Play.
  2. For iPhone devices, download the "Brookstone Smart" app from the App Store.

Registration and Login

  1. Run the "Brookstone Smart" app on your smartphone.
  2. Register for a new account or log in with an existing account. The app interface will show options for registration and login.

Adding a Device (Smart WiFi Mode)

  1. Plug the Smart Hub into an electrical socket. Hold down the On/Off button until the indicator light blinks rapidly.
  2. Ensure your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
  3. In the app, press the "+" symbol in the top right corner to add a device. Select "Socket" from the list of device types. The app will display various device categories like Smart Plug, Light Switch, Smart Camera, etc.
  4. Confirm that the indicator light on the Smart Hub is blinking rapidly, then press the "Confirm indicator rapidly blinks" button in the app to connect in Smart WiFi Mode. The app will prompt for your Wi-Fi password.
  5. Enter your Wi-Fi password for the 2.4GHz network.
  6. The connection process will begin. Do not turn off the Smart Hub or your phone during this process. Wait for the connection to complete.
  7. Once the device is successfully added, you can name it within the app. The Smart Hub is now ready for use.

Adding a Device (AP Mode - Alternative Connection)

Notice: Only follow these steps if the Smart WiFi Mode connection fails.

  1. From the smart Wi-Fi connect page in the app, click on "Other Mode" in the top right corner and select "AP Mode".
  2. When the indicator light is blinking rapidly, hold the reset button for 6 seconds until the light blinks slowly. Then, in the app, click on the "confirm indicator slowly blinks" button.
  3. Ensure your phone is connected to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network that the device will connect to. Enter your Wi-Fi password.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions in the app. This typically involves connecting your mobile phone to the device's hotspot (e.g., "SmartLife-XXXX") and then returning to the app to continue adding the device.
  5. The connection process will begin. Do not turn off the Smart Hub or your phone during this process. Wait for the connection to complete.

Controlling the Smart Hub

  1. From the app's home screen, tap on "Smart Hub". You can then independently control each of the three outlets or control the entire hub simultaneously.
  2. To create schedules, tap the schedule button in the app. You can set separate schedules for each individual outlet. Tap "add schedule" at the bottom to create new schedules. You can also set countdown timers for each outlet.

Push Notifications

  1. To manage notifications for all connected devices, tap the "Me" button at the bottom right of the app screen.
  2. Then, tap on "Settings". From there, you can toggle push notifications on or off.

Removing a Device

  1. From the app's home screen, tap on the device you wish to remove.
  2. Tap the edit symbol (usually three dots or a pencil icon) in the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap the "Remove Device" button at the bottom of the screen to confirm removal.

Controlling the Smart Hub with Amazon Alexa

Ensure your Alexa app is connected to your Amazon Echo and both are successfully working on your Wi-Fi home network.

Step A: Link Brookstone Smart Skill

Log into your Alexa app. Tap the top left corner menu icon (three horizontal lines), then tap "Skills & Games".

Step B: Enable Brookstone Smart Skill

Type "Brookstone Smart" into the search bar. Find the "Brookstone Smart" app in the search results and tap the "ENABLE TO USE" button. The skill is provided by Tuya Inc.

Step C: Link Accounts

Enter your account information for the "Brookstone Smart" app. Tap "Link Now", then tap "Authorize" on the next page to link your Brookstone Smart account to Alexa. This grants Alexa permission to receive your public profile and control your devices over the internet.

Step D: Discover Devices

Once your Brookstone Smart account is successfully linked, a confirmation page will appear. Tap "Done" on the top left corner, then tap "Discover Devices" on the next page. Alexa will detect the Smart Hub from the Brookstone Smart app.

The Smart Hub will appear as four devices in Alexa: one for the Smart Hub as a whole, and one for each of the three individual outlets. This allows for separate naming and control of each outlet.

You can rename each discovered device within the Alexa app as desired.

Step F: Voice Control with Alexa

You can now control the Smart Hub via Amazon Alexa. Any device plugged into the Smart Hub can be turned on and off with Alexa voice commands.

Note: The device name is the one you assigned in the "Brookstone Smart" app. You can also name individual outlets (e.g., "Living Room Light") and control them separately. For example, you could say: "Alexa, turn on Living Room" or "Alexa, turn off Living Room".

Controlling the Smart Hub with Google Assistant

Step A: Pair and Download

  1. Pair your Smart Hub with the Brookstone Smart App and assign it an easily recognizable name.
  2. Download the Google Home App and register/log in with your Google Account.

Step B: Connect Brookstone Smart Account

Once logged into the Google Home App, look for buttons at the top to connect your Brookstone Smart account. Tap the "Connect Brookstone Smart" button to link your account with Google Assistant.

Step C: Link Accounts

Enter your account information for the "Brookstone Smart" app. Tap "Link now", then tap "Authorize" on the next page to link your Brookstone Smart account with Google Assistant. This grants Google permission to receive your public profile and control your devices over the internet.

Step D: Discover Devices

Google Assistant will find the device named "Smart Plug" (or your assigned name) on this page. Scroll down the home page to see all linked devices. You can now control the device through the Google Home App.

Step E: Voice Control with Google Assistant

You can now control your Smart Hub by turning it on or off with Google Assistant. Just start with "Hey Google".

Example Commands:

Note: The device name is the one you assigned to the switch in the "Brookstone Smart" App. For example, if you named an outlet "Living Room", you can say: "Hey Google, turn on Living Room" or "Hey Google, turn off Living Room". You can name each individual outlet and control them separately.
