Casio Watch User Manual - Models 3353, 3354, 5053
Module Numbers: 3353, 3354, 5053
Series: WVA-430/440/470/620
General Precautions
Do not expose the watch to extreme temperatures. Although designed for normal use, avoid rough handling and dropping. Do not fasten the strap too tightly; a finger should fit between your wrist and the strap. Use a dry soft cloth or a soft cloth dampened with a water solution of mild neutral detergent to clean the watch and strap. Never use volatile agents like gasoline, solvents, spray cleaners, etc. Store your watch in a dry place when not in use. Avoid exposure to gasoline, cleaning solvents, spray aerosols, adhesives, paint, etc., as chemical reactions can damage gaskets, cases, and polish. Be cautious when cleaning straps with silk-screened designs to avoid damaging the patterns.
Important Information
Battery
The battery installed at the factory may discharge during shipping and storage. If the power is low (dim display), replace the battery at an authorized CASIO service center or distributor.
Water Resistance
For all watch categories, do not press buttons underwater, change hands underwater, or unscrew the crown underwater. If exposed to saltwater, rinse thoroughly and dry. Do not wear watches with leather straps while swimming and avoid prolonged contact of leather straps with water.
Plastic Straps
A whitish powdery substance may appear on plastic straps. This substance is harmless and can be removed by wiping with a cloth. Sweat or moisture on plastic straps, or storage in high humidity, can cause damage, breakage, or cracking. To ensure a long service life, wipe plastic straps clean of dirt and water with a soft cloth whenever possible.
Fluorescent Cases and Straps
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may cause gradual fading of fluorescent colors. Prolonged contact with moisture can also cause fading; wipe off any moisture as soon as possible. Contact with other wet surfaces may cause discoloration. Ensure fluorescent surfaces are dry and avoid contact with other surfaces.
Water Resistance Levels
Level | Marking | Splash/Rain | Washing/Car Wash | Swimming/Snorkeling | Scuba Diving |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
I | None | No | No | No | No |

IV | 100 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
V | 200 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Notes: Strong friction of fluorescent painted surfaces against other surfaces may transfer the paint. CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD. is not responsible for any damage arising from the use of this watch. Condensation may form on the inside of the glass due to sharp temperature changes; this is normal and not a defect.
Level Descriptions:
I: Not water-protected. Avoid moisture.
II (WR): Water-resistant per ISO 2281. Short contact with water is fine.
III (5 Bar/50M): Withstands pressure for showering and short swimming.
IV (10 Bar/100M): Suitable for regular swimming and snorkeling.
V (20 Bar/200M): Suitable for scuba diving (excluding depths requiring helium-oxygen mix).
Care for Your Watch
Never attempt to open the case or remove the back cover. Replace the rubber gasket (water and dust protection) every 2-3 years. If moisture enters the watch, have it checked immediately by a dealer or CASIO distributor.
Operating Modes
General Description
Pressing the 'C' button cycles through modes: Current Time ➔ Battery Power Indicator ➔ World Time ➔ Alarm ➔ Stopwatch ➔ Analog Time ➔ Current Time. Press 'B' for backlight in any mode.
Current Time Mode
Pressing 'D' in Current Time Mode switches between current time/date and last signal reception time. Pressing 'A' switches between current date, calibration signal indicator, and current time seconds.
Setting Current Location City
- In Current Time Mode, press and hold 'A' until the signal transmission indicator (AT, MSF, DCF) appears. If 'AT' is not displayed, press 'D'. The second hand moves to the 12 o'clock position.
- Press 'C' to set the city code.
- Use buttons 'B' and 'D' to change the city code.
- Press 'A' twice to finish.
Calibration Signal
The watch receives calibration signals to update time. Signal transmission centers are in Germany (near Frankfurt) and Rugby, England, with a range of 1000 km. Signal strength can be affected by distance (weak beyond 500m), natural conditions, atmospheric pressure, temperature, proximity to TVs, computers, appliances, tunnels, airports, train stations, busy roads, radio stations, and static electricity.
There are two types of reception: Auto-calibration (5 times daily) and Forced calibration (manual press). For forced calibration: 1. Place watch horizontally. 2. In Current Time Mode, press and hold 'D' for 2 seconds until 'RC' flashes. The second hand moves to 12 o'clock. 3. Signal reception takes 2-7 minutes; do not move the watch. 4. The display shows last reception data. Press 'D' to stop and return to Current Time Mode. If reception fails, 'ERR' appears for 1-2 minutes.
Enabling/Disabling Auto-Calibration
- In Current Time Mode, press and hold 'A' until the signal transmission indicator appears.
- Press 'C' three times to access auto-calibration settings.
- If your city code does not support auto-calibration, '- -' is displayed.
- Use 'D' to turn auto-calibration ON or OFF.
- Press 'A' twice to finish.
Setting Time and Date
- Press and hold 'A' in Current Time Mode until the signal transmission indicator appears. The second hand moves to 12 o'clock.
- Press 'A' and 'C' to cycle through settings: Signal Reception Center ➔ City Code ➔ DST (Auto/ON/OFF) ➔ Auto-Calibration (ON/OFF) ➔ Hour ➔ Minute ➔ Seconds ➔ 12/24 Hour Format ➔ Month ➔ Day ➔ Year ➔ Power Saving Mode (ON/OFF).
- If seconds are flashing, press 'D' to reset to 00. If seconds are 30-59, reset to 00 and increment minutes. If seconds are 00-29, minutes remain unchanged.
- Use 'B' and 'D' to change values.
- Press 'D' to switch between 12/24 hour format. 'P' indicates PM in 12-hour format.
- Use 'D' and 'B' to select city names.
- Press 'D' to cycle through DST settings: Auto-switch ('A'), OFF, ON.
- Use 'D' to turn auto-calibration ON or OFF.
- Use 'D' to turn power saving mode ON or OFF.
- Press 'B' to switch backlight duration (1.5s or 2.5s).
- Use 'D' to set signal reception (AT, MSF, DCF). Holding the button changes values faster.
- Day of the week is set automatically with the date. Date range: January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2099.
- Press 'A' after setting date and time.
Signal Reception Indicator
This indicator shows signal reception quality. A full indicator means good reception. Allow about 10 seconds for the indicator to stabilize. If no indicator is present, reception is not occurring; check settings or perform manual calibration.
Backlight
Press 'B' in any mode to turn on the backlight. The backlight uses an LED combined with fluorescent coating for visibility in the dark. An audible signal may be heard during illumination due to vibrating backlight elements; this is not a malfunction. Backlight is hard to see in direct sunlight. Frequent use reduces battery life. Backlight duration can be set to 1.5 or 2.5 seconds by pressing 'B' in Current Time Mode.
Analog Time Mode
Analog time is synchronized with digital time. If they become misaligned: 1. In Analog Time Mode, press and hold 'A' until '-00-' appears. The second hand moves to 12 o'clock. 2. Use 'D' and 'B' to set the analog time (D advances by 20 seconds, B retracts by 20 seconds; holding D while pressing B speeds up changes). 3. Press 'A' to finish.
World Time Mode
View local time in any of 30 cities (29 time zones). Press 'D' to select a city. To enable/disable DST for a city, select it and press and hold 'A'. 'DST' appears when enabled.
Alarm Mode
Set daily alarms (AL1, AL2, AL3) that sound for 10 seconds at the set time. An hourly chime (SIG) can also be set.
Setting Alarm
- In Alarm Mode, press 'D' to select alarm type: AL1, AL2, AL3, or SIG (hourly chime).
