Warning
This product is intended for advanced users. Improper installation may result in damage to your equipment. Phanteks assumes no liability for damage(s) occurring to your components due to installation mistakes, omissions, or product defects. Do not disassemble the water block, as this will void the warranty.
Step 1: Removing Stock Cooler
Unscrew all highlighted screws to remove the stock cooler and backplate. The highlighted screws are categorized as 'backplate screws' and 'stock cooler screws'.
Ensure to unplug the LED and Fan cables when removing the stock cooler.
Note for MSI SUPRIM PCB (Version: V510-2.2)
Some SUPRIM models require the removal of 2 specific screws. Secure these again with 2x M3 Nuts and the original screws.
This step applies to compatible models such as the MSI RTX 4090 SUPRIM (X) and MSI RTX 4090 GAMING(X) TRIO.
Visuals indicate the locations of backplate and stock cooler screws. For MSI SUPRIM PCBs (V510-2.2), specific screws are highlighted for removal and re-attachment with M3 nuts.
Step 2: Applying Thermal Paste & Pads
Clean off the original thermal compound using isopropanol alcohol.
Remove the protective film from the thermal pads and place them on the correct positions on the PCB. Apply the Phanteks Thermal Compound to the center of the GPU chip.
Ensure the protective film is removed from both sides of the thermal pads.
Illustrations show thermal pad placement areas on the GPU PCB and the application of Phanteks Thermal Compound to the GPU chip.
Step 3: Mount the Water Block
Secure the support bracket to the GPU block first.
Carefully position the water block onto the graphics card, aligning the mounting holes on the PCB with the holes on the water block.
Secure the water block to the PCB using 4x M2.5x5mm screws and washers.
Secure the Support Bracket [secured with] the original cooler screw.
PRO TIP: Lay the GPU with the water block flat down, ensuring it does not rest on the PCI bracket.
The process is illustrated: attaching the support bracket to the water block, positioning the water block on the GPU, and securing it with screws. The support bracket is shown fastened with an original cooler screw.
Step 4: Applying Thermal Pads (Backplate)
Remove the protective film from both sides of the thermal pads and place them on the correct positions on the backplate.
The backplate is shown with numbered locations (1-5) for thermal pad placement.
Step 5: Install the Backplate
Carefully position the backplate onto the graphics card, aligning the mounting holes on the PCB with the holes on the backplate.
Secure the backplate to the PCB using 11x M2.5x8mm flush screws.
The backplate is depicted being placed onto the graphics card and secured with screws.
Step 6: Install into the System
- Connect the D-RGB cable to the D-RGB strip in the water block. PRO TIP: All Phanteks D-RGB products can be daisy-chained together.
- Install the GPU into the system.
- Install the waterloop and Stop Fittings.
Important: Always perform a leak test before providing power to any system components.
Optional: Use the Motherboard cable to connect the LED strip to the motherboard.
The D-RGB cable connection to the water block is shown. An optional connection illustrates the motherboard cable linking the LED strip to the motherboard.
