1. Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the new GIANT CONTACT SWITCH SL seatpost. The all-new CONTACT SWITCH SL seatpost is a lightweight, adjustable seatpost designed for XC and gravel riding. Featuring a mechanical spring system, two-position adjustment, and a durable construction, it ensures smooth and efficient operation with minimal weight – ideal for tackling challenging climbs and descents.
The design is reduced to pure utility – full extension for efficient riding, low position for technical challenges. No unnecessary complications, no unnecessary compromises. 110 mm and 140 mm travel options to meet the needs of most riders. High-quality aluminum alloy construction provides exceptional strength while maintaining minimal weight. Titanium bolts and a redesigned saddle clamp further reduce overall weight. The simple and lightweight GIANT CONTACT SWITCH SL seatpost will help you conquer local trails like a professional.
CAUTION: Read this instruction manual carefully before installing and using this seatpost. Failure to follow the instructions in this manual may result in serious injury or death.
- 1. Adjusting saddle height while riding may cause loss of control.
- 2. Never ride with a modified or altered CONTACT SWITCH SL seatpost. Any modifications will void the warranty.
- 3. Loose, overtightened, damaged, or worn parts can cause unexpected failure. Periodically inspect the seatpost for wear or damage. If there are any signs of wear, cracks, or dents on the seatpost or any of its parts, immediately stop using the seatpost and find an authorized GIANT dealer for inspection, repair, or replacement.
- 4. Ensure all bolts on the CONTACT SWITCH SL seatpost clamp are properly tightened according to the recommended torque settings before riding.
- 5. Overtightening the seatpost clamp will affect the seatpost height adjustment function. Find the recommended tightening torque on the seatpost clamp or in your bicycle's owner's manual.

5. Installation
Diagrams A-H illustrate the installation process.
- (Skip step 2 if assembling a new bicycle) Remove the existing seatpost and saddle from the bicycle before installing the GIANT CONTACT SWITCH SL seatpost.
- Loosen and remove the rear saddle fixing bolt. The cable entry for the remote lever is now exposed (A). Insert the new cable. The cable passes through the seatpost and exits at the bottom.
- Install the desired saddle horizontally in the clamp. Temporarily tighten both clamp bolts (B).
- Route the remote control cable to the cable housing anchor at the bottom of the seatpost (C). Then, slide the cable housing with its end into the mounting point at the very bottom (D).
- Apply a thin layer of friction-increasing paste to the seatpost tube (E) or the frame's seat tube. Insert the seatpost into the seat tube approximately halfway between the minimum insertion mark and the collar ring, then tighten the seatpost clamp according to the specified torque value*. Do not overtighten, as this may impair the seatpost function.
*Choose the lower value between the one marked on the seatpost and the frame manufacturer's recommendations. - Route the cable housing and guide the cable within it according to the cable routing instructions for the frame from the frame or bicycle manufacturer.
CAUTION: It may be necessary to remove the crank and bottom bracket to route the cable inside the frame. Contact an authorized Giant dealer for assistance.
7. Install the remote lever.
- 7.1 Attach the lever to the handlebar and tighten with a 3mm hex wrench. Recommended torque: 3 Nm.
- 7.2 Route the cable through the barrel adjuster and insert the cable housing into the housing stop on the lever.
- 7.3 Tension the cable and ensure that the seatpost, cable housing, barrel adjuster, and remote lever are properly attached.
- 7.4 Tighten the pinch bolt using a 3mm hex wrench. Recommended torque: 1.2 Nm (F).
- 7.5 Cut off any excess cable and install the cable end cap.
CAUTION: Crimp the cable end cap to prevent sharp ends or fraying of the cable.
8. Use the remote lever to check the operation of the upper and lower seatpost positions (G).
9. Adjust the saddle to the preferred height without compromising the minimum insertion requirement. Tighten all mounting elements according to the recommended torque settings (H).
WARNING: Do not ride if the seatpost height adjustment function is not smooth. Do not ride if the minimum insertion depth cannot be achieved. Insufficient insertion of the seatpost can lead to sudden failure and cause injury or even death. Contact an authorized Giant service center for more information.
6. Operation
WARNING: Adjusting the seatpost height while riding the bicycle may result in loss of control.
- To lower the saddle height: Press the remote lever and push down or sit on the saddle to achieve the low seatpost and saddle position. Then release the lever.
Note that the Contact Switch SL seatpost is designed to remain in either the high or low position. If the lower position is not achieved after releasing the remote lever, the seatpost will return to the high position. - To raise the saddle height: Remove weight from the saddle and press the remote lever until you reach the maximum extension/height. Then release the lever.
7. Maintenance and Troubleshooting
After the first few rides, a small amount of grease may emerge from the collar ring area, which is normal. Simply wipe it off.
To ensure long-lasting optimal performance of the seatpost, clean the outer part of the seatpost before or after each ride. Use mild soapy water to remove any accumulated dirt or dust. Rinsing with a hose does not affect longevity; however, always avoid pressure washing due to the possibility of water entering the seatpost.
If the seatpost is not operating smoothly or its set position has changed (in most cases, it is lower than before), re-installation may resolve the issue.
Thanks to its simple construction, the GIANT CONTACT SWITCH SL adjustable seatpost is easy to service, allowing for long-lasting performance. For advice, please contact your local authorized Giant dealer.
Recommended Service Interval: Perform basic service and cartridge replacement once a year.
