The Grundig Wake-up Light with FM Radio (Model JW-6640MD, Item 871125208195) is a versatile device designed to enhance your morning and evening routines. It features a wake-up light simulation, sunset light simulation, FM radio, natural sounds, and a bedside lamp function. This manual provides detailed instructions for its operation.

The device is a circular unit with a digital time display in the center. Around the display are various touch-sensitive buttons for control. On the back, it has a battery compartment and a USB port for power.

Battery Installation and Power Supply

Powering On

To power on the device, connect the USB cable to an adapter and then plug the adapter into a power socket. The device requires a DC 5V power supply.

Battery Backup

The device requires 3 AAA batteries (not included) for backup power. Open the battery compartment, insert the batteries ensuring correct polarity, and close the compartment. These batteries save settings during a power failure.

Battery Mode Limitations

When running on batteries, some functions are limited:

  • The time display turns off after 15 seconds; press any key to reactivate.
  • Alarm and radio functions are available.
  • Light functions are NOT available.

Note: If batteries are low, the product may not function properly. Replace with fresh batteries. If not used for a long time, remove batteries. Low battery voltage will cause the device to restart and all settings will be lost.

Setting the Current Time

When power is connected, the hour value will flash.

Setting the Hour

Touch the "Current Time" button (clock icon) to make the hour value flash. Use the "Plus" (+) and "Minus" (-) buttons to adjust the hour. Press the "Current Time" button again to confirm.

Setting the Minutes

Use the "Plus" (+) and "Minus" (-) buttons to adjust the minutes. Press the "Current Time" button again to confirm. If flashing stops, touch the "Current Time" button again.

12-hour / 24-hour Format

Press the "12/24" button (labeled 12/24) to toggle between 12-hour and 24-hour formats. In 12-hour format, AM or PM will appear on the display.

Brightness of Time Display

Press the "Brightness" button (sun icon with rays) to adjust the display brightness. Options include LOW, HIGH, and OFF.

FM Radio Operation

The device includes an FM radio with an antenna.

Turning Radio On/Off

Touch the "FM Radio" button (FM icon) to turn the radio on or off.

Auto-Scan and Station Selection

Press and hold the "FM Radio" button for 3 seconds to auto-scan for FM channels. All found channels will be saved automatically. Use the "Plus" (+) and "Minus" (-) buttons to select an FM station.

Adjusting Volume

Press the "Volume" button (speaker icon) to adjust the volume level (00-15).

Note: The time is not displayed when the radio is turned on.

Setting the Alarm

Activating/Deactivating Alarm Mode

Touch the "Alarm" button (bell icon) to turn alarm mode on or off. An alarm symbol (bell icon) will appear or disappear on the clock display.

Setting Alarm Time

Press and hold the "Alarm" button to set the alarm time. The hour value will flash.

Setting the Hour

Use the "Plus" (+) and "Minus" (-) buttons to adjust the hour. Press the "Alarm" button to confirm.

Setting the Minutes

Use the "Plus" (+) and "Minus" (-) buttons to adjust the minutes. Press the "Alarm" button to confirm. If flashing stops, touch the "Alarm" button again.

Nature Sounds Selection

Press the "Nature Sounds" button (music note icon) to set the alarm sound. Use the "Plus" (+) and "Minus" (-) buttons to select a sound (1-7). Press the "Nature Sounds" button to confirm your selection. Sounds 1-6 play for 5 seconds for preview. If 7 is selected, the last listened FM radio station will be used as the wake-up sound.

Adjusting Alarm Volume

Press the "Volume" button (speaker icon) to adjust the alarm volume level (00-15).

Sunrise-Light Simulation

If the alarm time is set, the wake-up light will turn on 30 minutes before the alarm time. It starts at low brightness and gradually increases to full brightness by the alarm time. Your chosen natural sound or radio will play for 2 minutes at the alarm time.

While the Alarm is Sounding

  • Touch the "Snooze" button (Zz icon) to snooze the alarm for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the alarm will play again for 2 minutes. Press or touch any button except the "Snooze" button to stop the sound.
  • Press and hold the "Light" button (light bulb icon) to turn off the wake-up light.

Setting the Sunset Time

Activating/Deactivating Sunset Mode

Touch the "Sunset" button (sunset icon) to turn sunset mode on or off. A sunset symbol will appear or disappear on the display.

Setting Sunset Time

Press and hold the "Sunset" button to set the sunset time. The hour value will flash.

Setting the Hour

Use the "Plus" (+) and "Minus" (-) buttons to adjust the hour. Press the "Sunset" button to confirm.

Setting the Minutes

Use the "Plus" (+) and "Minus" (-) buttons to adjust the minutes. Press the "Sunset" button to confirm.

Light Functions

Turning Light On/Off and Brightness

Touch the "Light" button (light bulb icon) to turn the light on. Use the "Plus" (+) and "Minus" (-) buttons to adjust the brightness level (1-10).

Color Selection and Automatic Color Change

Touch the "Light" button a second time to activate automatic color-changing mode. Use the "Plus" (+) and "Minus" (-) buttons to select a specific color: green, red, blue, purple, orange, or indigo. Touch the "Light" button a third time to turn off the light.

Sunset-Light Simulation

30 minutes before the set sunset time, the light will turn on at 100% brightness. The brightness will then gradually decrease and turn off at the sunset time. While the sunset light is on, you can press and hold the "Light" button to turn it off.

Important Warnings and Troubleshooting

  • Do not press two or more buttons at the same time.
  • To avoid malfunctions, allow more than 1 second between touches.
  • If there is any malfunction, unplug the unit for 3 seconds.
  • If batteries are not used for a long time, remove them.
  • When battery voltage is low, the product will restart and all settings will be lost. Replace batteries.
