Setup and Safety

Power Supply Operation

Mains Operation

Ensure mains voltage on the type plate matches your local supply. Plug the power adapter into a socket (100 - 240V~, 50/60 Hz).

Caution: The mains plug must remain readily operable for full disconnection.

Inserting the Back-up Battery

Backup batteries retain settings during power failure. Open the battery compartment, insert 2 x 1.5V AAA batteries observing polarity, and close the compartment.

Note: Remove backup batteries if flat or if the device will not be used for a long period.

Environmental Note: Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

DAB Mode

Antenna

Align the wire antenna for optimal DAB and FM reception.

Switching ON/OFF

Use the ON/OFF button to switch the device from standby or to put it into standby.

Searching and Saving Radio Stations (Automatically)

The radio performs Automatic Station Search (ATS) on first use, storing DAB stations first, then FM stations.

Selecting a DAB Station

  1. Press ON/OFF to turn on the radio.
  2. Press MODE/MENU until DAB mode is selected.
  3. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select a station from the list.
  4. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to select the desired station.

Display DAB Information

Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to cycle through display options: Station name, DLS, Program type, Multiplex name, Frequency, Bit rate, Signal strength, time, and data. Display reverts to clock after 10 seconds (except text). A signal strength display shows reception quality, with | indicating minimum required strength.

Manual Tuning

Tune to a specific DAB frequency in Band III:

  1. Press and hold MODE/MENU (2 sec) to show DAB menu.
  2. Use TUNING + or TUNING - until 'MANUAL' is displayed.
  3. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to enter manual tuning.
  4. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select the desired DAB channel.
  5. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to tune to the chosen frequency.
  6. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to save the station and return to normal tuning.

Dynamic Range Control (DRC)

DRC enhances quieter sounds in noisy environments.

  1. Press ON/OFF to turn on the radio.
  2. Press and hold MODE/MENU (2 sec) to show DAB menu.
  3. Use TUNING + or TUNING - until 'DRC' is displayed.
  4. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to enter adjustment mode.
  5. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select DRC setting (DRC 0, DRC 1, or DRC ½).
  6. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to confirm.

Prune Stations (DAB)

Removes stations not found or not received for a long time (marked with [unknown station]).

  1. Turn on radio, select DAB mode.
  2. Press and hold MODE/MENU (2 sec) to show DAB menu.
  3. Use TUNING + or TUNING - until 'PRUNE' is displayed.
  4. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT. 'SELECT' will be shown.
  5. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to remove invalid stations.

FM Mode

Tuning FM Radio Stations (Automatically and Manually)

You can store 10 stations on presets.

  • Automatic Tuning: Press and hold TUNING + or TUNING - until the frequency display runs rapidly. The search stops when a station is found.
  • Manual Tuning: Briefly press TUNING + or TUNING - to step frequency by 50kHz.

Display FM Information

Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to cycle through display options: Station name, Radio text, PTY, Frequency, time, and data. Display reverts to clock after 10 seconds (except text).

FM Scanning Settings

Choose between 'Local FM' (for strong stations) and 'Distant' (for all stations).

  1. Turn on radio in FM mode.
  2. Press and hold MODE/MENU; 'Setting' is displayed.
  3. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to enter settings.
  4. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select 'Local FM' or 'Distant'.
  5. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to confirm.

Searching and Saving Radio Stations (DAB or FM)

Store up to 10 stations on presets for DAB or FM mode.

  1. Turn on radio in DAB or FM mode.
  2. Select desired DAB station or tune to desired FM station.
  3. Press and hold PRESET to activate memory function.
  4. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select the preset number.
  5. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to save the station. (Existing presets will be overwritten).
  6. Repeat for more stations.

Selecting Stored Stations

Press PRESET to cycle through saved stations.

Adjusting Volume

Use VOLUME -/AL1 or VOLUME +/AL2 buttons.

Bluetooth Mode

Connect to Mobile Device

  1. Turn on the device.
  2. Press MODE/TIME repeatedly until 'bt' is shown. The Bluetooth icon will flash.
  3. On your mobile device, find "Sonoclock 3500" in the Bluetooth device list and connect.
  4. The Bluetooth icon stops flashing when connected.

Playback Control via Bluetooth

  1. Turn on the radio and connect via Bluetooth.
  2. Press PRESET to toggle play/pause.
  3. Press TUNING - for the previous song.
  4. Press TUNING + for the next song.

Pairing Mode

  1. Turn on the radio.
  2. If connected, press and hold PRESET to disconnect the current Bluetooth connection. The Bluetooth icon will flash, indicating pairing mode.
  3. Repeat connection steps for a new device.

Adjusting Volume

Use VOLUME -/AL 1 or VOLUME +/AL 2 buttons.

Power Saving in Bluetooth

The device enters standby mode after 15 minutes if no Bluetooth connection is active.

Timer Mode

Synchronise Time from DAB or FM

  1. Turn on the device. Press and hold MODE/MENU (2 sec) to activate menu settings.
  2. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to find 'SYSTEM', then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  3. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to find 'TIME', then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  4. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to find 'UPDATE', then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  5. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to choose time source ('ANY', 'DAB', 'FM', 'NONE'), then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.

Manual Set Time

  1. Follow steps 1-3 of 'Synchronise Time'.
  2. Select 'SET TIME', then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  3. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select desired time and date, and SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to confirm.

Set Time Display Format

  1. Follow steps 1-3 of 'Synchronise Time'.
  2. Select 'SET FORMAT', then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  3. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select '12' or '24', and SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to confirm.

Setting the Alarm Time

  1. Put the device in standby mode.
  2. Press and hold VOLUME -/AL 1 (for alarm 1) or VOLUME +/AL 2 (for alarm 2).
  3. Example: Hold VOLUME -/AL 1, then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to start alarm 1 setup.
  4. Choose 'ON' to activate or 'OFF' to deactivate the alarm, then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  5. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select the alarm time, then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  6. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to choose frequency ('WEEKDAYS', 'WEEKENDS', 'DAILY', 'ONCE'), then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT. (If 'ONCE', set specific date).
  7. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select alarm source ('DAB', 'FM', 'BUZZER'), then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT. (If 'DAB'/'FM', choose preset or last listened station).
  8. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select alarm volume, then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to confirm. 'SAVED' will be displayed.

Notes: Alarm duration is 60 minutes. The alarm icon will light up when activated.

Snooze the Alarm

Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT while the alarm is sounding. The SNOOZE LED will light up. The alarm will sound again after nine minutes.

Cancelling the Alarm

Press ON/OFF while the alarm is sounding. The alarm will sound again at the next set time.

Activating and Deactivating the Alarm

In standby mode, press VOLUME -/AL 1 or VOLUME +/AL 2 to activate or deactivate the alarm with the last used settings.

Sleep Timer

  1. Press and hold SLEEP/SNOOZE/INFO/SELECT (approx. 2 sec) to activate.
  2. Press TUNING + or TUNING - to select auto-switch-off timer (10 to 90 minutes). Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to confirm.
  3. To switch off before the set time: press and hold SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT (approx. 2 sec), press TUNING +/- until 'OFF' is displayed, then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to confirm.

Brightness Settings

  1. Turn on the device. Press and hold MODE/MENU (2 sec) to activate menu settings.
  2. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to find 'SYSTEM', then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  3. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to find 'DIMMER', then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  4. Choose 'NORMAL' for radio modes or 'STANDBY' for standby mode brightness.
  5. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select brightness level ('HIGH', 'MID', 'LOW'), then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to confirm.

Language Settings

  1. Turn on the device. Press and hold MODE/MENU (2 sec) to activate menu settings.
  2. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to find 'SYSTEM', then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  3. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to find 'LANGUAGE', then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  4. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to select desired language, then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to confirm.

Factory Reset

  1. Turn on the device. Press and hold MODE/MENU (2 sec) to activate menu settings.
  2. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to find 'SYSTEM', then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  3. Use TUNING + or TUNING - to find 'FACTORY', then press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT.
  4. Press SNOOZE/SLEEP/INFO/SELECT to confirm reset to factory defaults.

Charging a Mobile Phone

The USB socket on the back provides 5V DC for charging mobile phones. Connect your phone with an appropriate cable. USB power is available in all operating modes, including standby. Refer to your mobile phone's manual to confirm USB charging compatibility. The USB socket is for power output only and cannot be used for music playback from a USB stick.
