Baby Positioning Checklist & Tips
Ensure your baby is positioned correctly and safely for optimal ergonomics and comfort:
- ? Baby is close enough to kiss, positioned high on your body.
- ✅ Ergonomic "M" shape position with thighs supported.
- ✅ Spine in a "C" shape.
- ✅ Head supported at mid-ear level for babies 0-4 months or until strong head/neck control is achieved.
- ✅ Airway is open and face is visible at all times.
Incorrect positioning indicators:
- ❌ Baby too low or too far away.
- ❌ Legs not supported or in an unnatural position.
- ❌ Spine not curved.
- ❌ Head not supported or airway obstructed.
Follow These Easy Steps to Get Started
- Adjust Seat: Use the velcro tabs (15) to adjust the seat to your baby's height. Ensure the seat width is appropriate for the chosen carry position and baby's size. For inward-facing, minimum 20 inches (50.8 cm) is recommended. For outward-facing, minimum 14 lbs (6.4 kg) is required.
- Position Head & Neck Support: Adjust the head and neck support (10) according to baby's age and activity. For newborns (0-6 weeks), ensure full head and neck support. As baby grows (7 weeks and up, or 3-4 months), adjust support as needed for head/neck control.
- Adjust Carrier Seat: Use the sliders (13) to adjust the seat width for inward-facing or outward-facing positions, ensuring it fits baby's size.
- Loosen Shoulder Straps: Loosen both shoulder straps (12) to make it easier to put on the carrier.
- Unbuckle Shoulder Straps: If necessary, push and lift to unbuckle the shoulder straps.
How to Attach the Carrier Waistbelt
Follow these steps to correctly attach and secure the waistbelt (5, 7):
- Wrap the waistbelt around your waist, ensuring it is level and snug. The lumbar support (7) should be centered at the back.
- Buckle the waistbelt using the buckle (5).
- Adjust the waistbelt for a comfortable and secure fit.

Important Safety Warnings & Precautions
⚠️ WARNING: FALL AND SUFFOCATION HAZARD
- Fall Hazard: Babies can fall through a wide leg opening or out of the carrier. Adjust leg openings to fit baby's legs snugly. Before each use, make sure all fasteners are secure. Take special care when leaning or walking; always bend at the knees, not the waist. Only use this carrier for babies between 7 lbs (3.2 kg) and 45 lbs (20.4 kg).
- Suffocation Hazard: Babies under 4 months can suffocate if their face is pressed tight against your body. Do not strap baby too tight. Allow room for head movement. Keep baby's face free from obstructions at all times. Do not let baby sleep in the front outward-facing carry position. If nursing, reposition baby after feeding so their face is not pressed against your body.
Other Warnings:
- ⚠️ IMPORTANT! Strings can cause strangulation. Only use the pacifier loop(s) with a pacifier holder that has a short cord or strap. Do not attach additional cords or straps and monitor baby closely during use.
- ? Baby must face towards you until he or she can hold head upright.
- ✅ Only use the outward-facing carry position when baby has demonstrated strong and consistent head and neck control.
- ✅ To prevent hazards from falling, ensure that your child is securely positioned in the Carrier.
- ✅ Constantly monitor your child and ensure that the mouth and nose are unobstructed.
- ? For pre-term, low birthweight babies, and children with medical conditions, seek advice from a health professional before using this product.
- ⚠️ Ensure that your child's chin is not resting on its chest, as its breathing may be restricted, which could lead to suffocation.
- ⚠️ Your balance may be adversely affected by your movement and that of your child. Take care when bending or leaning forward or sideways.
- ❌ This Carrier is not suitable for use during sporting activities, e.g., running, cycling, swimming, and skiing.
Precautions for Use of Ergobaby™ Carrier:
- Read all instructions before assembling and using the Carrier.
- The Carrier should not be used unless the wearer understands the instructions and safety features and is confident with its use.
- Never leave baby unattended in or with the Ergobaby™ Carrier.
- Keep the Carrier away from children when not in use.
- For smaller babies or adults with a long torso, wear the Carrier waistbelt higher on the body so baby's head is positioned close enough to kiss.
- Premature infants, infants with respiratory problems, and infants under 4 months are at greatest risk of suffocation.
- Ensure proper placement of baby in product, including leg placement.
- Baby's head should be supported by the head and neck support panel until baby demonstrates strong and consistent head and neck control.
- Check that all buckles, snaps, straps, and adjustments are secure before each use.
- Never use a soft carrier while engaging in activities such as cooking and cleaning which involve a heat source or exposure to chemicals.
- Never use a soft carrier when balance or mobility is impaired due to exercise, drowsiness, or medical conditions.
- Baby's position should be checked regularly to ensure they are properly seated, centered with legs in a spread-squat position, and head upright, not slumping.
- Take particular care when a baby is carried in a back carry position.
- To avoid injury when learning to place the baby, do so over a bed or cushioned surface with assistance.
- Whenever possible, wear and remove the carrier close to a safe receiving surface for baby and in a safe place.
- There should always be at least two fingers' width clearance before baby's chin in the facing-out position.
- Baby's arms, legs, and feet need to be checked regularly to ensure they are not constricted.
- Be aware that as the baby becomes more active, the child has more risk of falling out of the Carrier.
- Never use/wear more than one Carrier at a time.
- Take the baby out of the Carrier before changing the position of the Carrier.
- Regularly inspect the Carrier for any sign of wear and damage. Check for ripped seams, torn straps or fabrics, and damaged fasteners before each use.
- Never use a Carrier when fabric, fastener, or buckle is damaged.
- Only carry one child at a time in the baby Carrier.
- Never wear a soft carrier while driving or being a passenger in a vehicle.
- Be careful when drinking hot beverages to avoid spilling hot drinks onto the baby while using the Carrier.
