Automatic Transmission Gear Selector

Gear Selector Operation

The rotary gear selector operates in any direction. Upon engine start, the selector extends from its lower position.

1. Selecting D (Drive) or R (Reverse): Press the brake pedal and turn the gear selector. The selector's indicator light will illuminate.

Note: If the selector is engaged before the brake pedal is pressed, the selected gear may not be available. In such cases, release the selector, press the brake pedal, and engage the desired gear as described.

2. Selecting S (Sport Mode): From D (Drive), push the selector and turn it to S. The selector's indicator light will illuminate.

3. Paddle Shifters: Use the left paddle for downshifts and the right paddle for upshifts.

4. Shifting Gears: Pull the paddle shifter. To exit CommandShift mode and return to Sport mode, pull and hold the upshift paddle (+) for approximately 1 second. To return to Drive, move the selector back to D.

5. Selected Gear Display: The selected gear is shown on the information display.

Do not leave the vehicle stationary for extended periods with the engine running and a gear engaged.

Do not start the vehicle by coasting or towing.

PARK (P)

Use when parking the vehicle. The transmission will be locked.

Important: When parking, shift the transmission to P (Park) or N (Neutral) and engage the parking brake.

Before exiting the vehicle, set the selector to P and turn off the ignition.

Do not select Park (P) while the vehicle is moving.

REVERSE (R)

Do not select Reverse (R) while the vehicle is moving forward.

Ensure the vehicle is stationary and the brake is applied before selecting Reverse.

Turn the selector to R.

NEUTRAL (N)

Disengages the drive wheels. Engage the parking brake when N is selected.

Do not use this gear for towing the vehicle.

DRIVE (D)

Do not engage Drive before the vehicle is moving backward.

Gear changes occur automatically. Shift points are determined by accelerator pedal position and current speed.

SPORT (S)

The transmission will hold lower gears longer, enhancing mid-range performance. To exit Sport mode, turn the selector back to D.

COMMANDSHIFT™

In Sport mode, gear changes are performed using the paddle shifters. CommandShift is useful for rapid acceleration or deceleration.

When shifting to CommandShift, the information display will show "Transmission Commandshift Selected".

To return to Sport mode after selecting CommandShift, move the selector to D, then back to Sport mode.

Note: For engine protection, the transmission will automatically upshift to prevent over-revving or downshift to reduce engine load.

DOWN SHIFT FOR INTENSE ACCELERATION

Fully press the accelerator pedal for quick acceleration in automatic mode. Releasing the pedal will resume normal shifting.

ROTARY GEAR SELECTOR

Before turning off the engine, move the selector to P (Park). If any other gear is selected when the engine is turned off, the selector will move to P before retracting into the center console.

If the engine is turned off in N (Neutral), the system will wait 10 minutes before selecting P. This delay allows for vehicle movement on a car wash conveyor. Do not use this gear for towing.

If the vehicle needs to be towed, this must be performed by qualified specialists. Refer to page 273, "TOWING THE VEHICLE".

GEAR SELECTOR DOES NOT RISE

If there is an obstruction preventing the gear selector from rising, remove it and start the engine. The selector should rise normally.

If the selector still does not rise, even without obstructions, it indicates a system fault. The selector can still be used in its lowered position. Before turning off the engine, ensure the selector is in P. Address the malfunction at the earliest opportunity.

TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION

If a transmission malfunction occurs, a warning will appear on the information display, and gear selection may be limited. Seek qualified assistance immediately.

MANUAL TRANSMISSION

GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR

The gear shift indicator briefly illuminates when a recommended gear change (upshift) occurs.

The gear shift indicator will not activate if cruise control is active or the accelerator pedal is pressed.

Note: This indicator is for information only. The driver is responsible for operating the vehicle safely according to road conditions.

Important Notes

If the vehicle is traveling above 24 km/h (15 mph), engaging reverse gear is blocked. Do not attempt to engage reverse while moving forward, as this can cause serious damage to the transmission and costly repairs.
