Safety Information

Read and understand this entire manual before assembly, operation, or installation.

Warnings:

  • To prevent electric shock, disconnect power before installation.
  • Modifications not approved by the responsible party may void user authority to operate the equipment.
  • This light control (120V, 60Hz) automatically turns a light on for a set amount of time (1, 3, or 10 minutes) or for 5 seconds in Test Mode.
  • Senses activity at distances up to 70 ft. away.
  • Electrical Load: Up to 4.2 A, 504W maximum (tungsten/incandescent); 1.25 A, 150W maximum (dimmable LED/CFL).
  • Compatible with dimmable LED, dimmable CFL, halogen, and incandescent bulbs.
  • For manual control, the unit must be wired through a switch.
  • Keep regular PAR-38 bulbs at least 1 in. (25 mm) from the sensor.
  • Keep halogen bulbs at least 2 in. (51 mm) from the sensor.
  • Wait for the fixture to cool before maintenance.

Installation Information

Caution: To avoid water damage and electrical shock risk, motion sensor controls must face the ground upon completion of installation.

The detector is less sensitive to motion directly toward it and more sensitive to crossways motion.

Assembly Instructions

  1. Turn OFF power to the work area at the main circuit breaker or fuse box. Caution: Do not rely on the wall switch alone to turn off power.
  2. Rotate the sensor (A) to connect it to the fixture (not included), then tighten the clamp screw.
  3. If eave mounted, rotate the sensor 180° so the controls face the ground.
  4. Wire connections:
    • Connect black wire from outlet box to black wire from sensor (A).
    • Connect white wire from outlet box to white wire from lamp head and sensor (A).
    • Connect black wire from lamp head to red wire from sensor (A).
    • Secure wires together with wire nuts (AA).
    • Connect ground wire from outlet box to ground wire from sensor (A). Screw ground wires onto the base of the lamp.

Hardware Used: AA Wire Nut x 2

Caution: To avoid water damage and electrical shock risk, the motion sensor controls must face the ground when installation is complete.

Installation is now complete. Turn on power at the circuit breaker and set the wall switch to ON. The wall switch must remain in the ON position for the motion detector to work properly.

Operating Instructions

Sensor Settings:

Mode Selection:

  • TEST: Light activates for 5 seconds after motion stops.
  • SECURITY (Dusk to Dawn): Sensor activates at dusk. Light turns on for preset time (1, 3, 10 min) after motion stops. Deactivates at dawn.
  • DUSK TO DAWN: At dusk, light turns to low brightness. Motion triggers full brightness for preset time, then returns to low brightness. Light turns off at dawn.

Time Setting:

Adjust the time the light remains on after motion stops: 1, 3, or 10 minutes.

Distance Setting:

Adjust sensitivity range:

  • L: Up to 20-30 ft.
  • M: Up to 40-50 ft.
  • H: Up to 60-70 ft. (Default)

Notes:

  • The sensor has a 14-second warm-up period before it will detect motion.
  • If motion is continuously detected during the fixture's "ON" cycle, the light will remain on for the preset time limit.
  • Manual Override: To force the fixture to override TEST and SECURITY modes so the light stays on, turn the light on manually from the wall switch. With the fixture already in the ON position, flip the wall switch off and then back on twice within 3 seconds. To revert back to the previous mode: Turn the wall switch off, wait 10 seconds, and then back on. If left on, the light will stay on for about 6 hours.
  • Ensure ambient brightness is less than 100 LUX for proper dusk-to-dawn operation.

Coverage Area and Distance

The motion detector has a coverage area of approximately 240°.

Recommended Sensor Angle based on Assembly Height:

Assembly Height (ft) Recommended Sensor Angle Dead Zone (ft) Max Distance (ft)
6 87° 2.5 65
8 84° 3 65
10 82° 4 65
13 78° 5 65
16 74° 6 65
20 70° 8 65

Notes:

  • The assembly height, sensor angle, and other data are the same for both wall and eave mount installations.
  • At an ambient temperature of 77°F (25°C), the detection distance is at max. 65 ft. As the temperature increases or decreases, the detection distance will be reduced.

Testing and Adjustments

  1. Turn on the wall switch.
  2. Set the switch to TEST position.
  3. Walk through the coverage area noting where you are when the fixture turns on. The indicator light will flash several times when motion is detected.
  4. If needed, adjust the motion sensor to change the detection zone.
  5. If needed, adjust the lamp heads to change the light coverage area.
  6. If you need to change the sensitivity, set the DISTANCE switch to desired position (L, M, or H). DISTANCE set too high may increase false triggers.
  7. Finally, set the TIME setting to the amount of time the fixture should remain on after motion is detected (1 min., 3 min., or 10 min.).

Important Considerations

Avoid aiming the sensor at:

  • Objects that might produce heat and may cause false triggers, such as: Pools of water, Air conditioners, Animals, Automobile traffic, Heating vents, Dryer vents.
  • Objects that may reflect light at the sensor, triggering the shut-off feature. Do not aim the sensor at other lights, or aim other lights at the sensor.

Troubleshooting

Problem: The lights do not come on.

  • Possible Cause: The light switch is turned off. Corrective Action: Turn the light switch on.
  • Possible Cause: The bulb is loose or burned out. Corrective Action: Re-tighten or replace the bulb.
  • Possible Cause: The fuse is blown or the circuit breaker is turned off. Corrective Action: Replace the fuse or turn on the circuit breaker.
  • Possible Cause: Daylight turn-off is in effect. Corrective Action: Re-check after dark.
  • Possible Cause: The wiring is incorrect (new installations). Corrective Action: Re-check the wiring.
  • Possible Cause: The sensor is not covering the area adequately. Corrective Action: Re-aim the sensor to cover desired area.

Problem: The lights come on during the daylight.

  • Possible Cause: The light control may be installed in a relatively dark location. Corrective Action: Move the light to a brighter location during the daylight hours.
  • Possible Cause: The light control is in TEST mode. Corrective Action: Set the control switch to the TIME position.

Problem: The lights come on for no apparent reason.

  • Possible Cause: The light control may be sensing small animals or automobile traffic. Corrective Action: Reposition the lamp away from the sensor or nearby objects.
  • Possible Cause: The range is set too high. Corrective Action: Reposition the sensor.
  • Possible Cause: The light control is in MANUAL mode. Corrective Action: Revert back to the sensor mode.

Problem: The lights flash on and off.

  • Possible Cause: Heat or light from the lamps may be turning the light control on and off. Corrective Action: Reposition the lamps away from the sensor.
  • Possible Cause: Heat being reflected from other objects may be affecting the sensor. Corrective Action: Reposition the sensor.
  • Possible Cause: The light control is in the TEST mode and warming up. Corrective Action: Flashing is normal under these conditions.
  • Possible Cause: The light may be leaking through the flood lamp reflectors. Corrective Action: Ensure the metal lamp protectors are installed.
  • Possible Cause: There may be obstructions around the lamp. Corrective Action: Remove the obstruction.
  • Possible Cause: The LED lamp or CFL you use is not dimmable. Corrective Action: Change to a dimmable one.

Care and Maintenance

To clean, turn OFF all power to the circuit and clean surfaces with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner.

Caution: Turn OFF all power to circuit at main circuit breaker or fuse box. DO NOT rely on wall switch alone to turn off power.

Keep the wall switch in the "ON" position at all times (including during the daytime) to ensure the fixture functions properly.
