3. Box Contents

4. Description and Features

The BOB-22 is a digital audio interface with 2 MIC/LINE audio inputs and 2 LINE level audio outputs, and Dante/AES67 (Audio over IP), allowing the conversion of up to 2 Dante/AES67 channels into 2 analog audio output signals of LINE level and vice versa; converting 2 analog MIC/LINE audio input signals into 2 Dante/AES67 channels for transmission over an Ethernet network.

It features PoE (Power over Ethernet) for DC power supply directly from PoE-compatible Ethernet switches. It optionally includes an external 24 VDC power supply (sold separately).

The BOB-22 is a generic Dante/AES67 device that can be used in combination with Ecler Dante devices, such as EclerNet / EclerPLEX / VIDA / HALO, or with any other third-party Dante/AES67 device, but it is not a native EclerNet / EclerPLEX "host" unit.

4.1 Main Features

5. Installation and Connections

5.1 Installation

The BOB-22 has been specially designed for installation in 19" rack cabinets, occupying one unit of height and half a unit of width. It includes a half-rack joining adapter, which allows mounting two half-width rack devices in a standard 1 unit (19") rack. See below how to mount the adapter.

Important: Since the device incorporates a heat generator, it is very important that it is not completely enclosed or exposed to extreme temperatures.

Important: If the installation consists of several units installed in the same rack or is carried out inside closed cabinets with doors, it is highly recommended to equip them with forced ascending ventilation, installing fans at their lower and upper ends. This ascending ventilation flow will favor the dissipation of the heat generated inside.

5.1.1 Mounting the half-rack front panel joining adapter

The BOB-22 includes a half-rack front panel joining adapter that allows mounting two half-width rack devices in a standard 19" rack unit.

Diagram 1: Remove the 3 screws from one of the supports.

Diagram 2: To join the supplied half-rack front panel adapter, use the same 3 screws that were removed.

5.2 Connections

5.2.1 Input audio connections

The BOB-22 has 2 balanced analog signal inputs on its rear panel that accept line or microphone levels and are prepared for Phantom power.

The signal input connectors are 3-position screw terminal blocks. The wiring is:

Note for unbalanced connection: Short the "hot" pin to the "cold" pin as shown in the image above.

Microphone Signal: The 2 ways have Euroblock connection and are prepared for a nominal input level of -50dBV to 0dBV, with adjustable gain on the rear panel via the GAIN control.

The wiring for microphones is shown in the following diagram:

Balanced:

Unbalanced:

Note: Microphones should be low impedance (200 to 600Ω) and mono.

Each analog input has its own gain control knob.

The BOB-22 provides Phantom power for condenser microphones, activated by an internal jumper.

Note: Phantom power is deactivated by default (factory setting).

5.2.2 Output audio connections

The BOB-22 has 2 balanced analog line level outputs on its rear panel that accept line levels.

The signal output connectors are 3-position screw terminal blocks. The wiring is:

Note for unbalanced connection: Short the "hot" pin to the "cold" pin as shown in the image above.

5.2.3 Ethernet Port / Dante/AES67

The RJ-45 ETHERNET connector on the rear panel allows connecting the device to an Ethernet network.

The BOB-22 allows 2x2 channel Dante/AES67 transmission and reception.

For more information on Dante network configuration and routing, consult the chapter Network Configuration and Dante/AES67 Routing.

6. Startup and Operation

If PoE DC power is not available from the Ethernet switch, connect the optional external power supply (sold separately) to the DC IN connector on the rear panel.

Note: To avoid hum, prevent the power cable from intertwining with shielded audio cables.

The device will turn on automatically, and the ON LED on the front panel will illuminate green.

7. Network Configuration and Dante/AES67 Routing

To configure network parameters (IP addresses, mask, etc.) and the transmission and reception of Dante/AES67 channels, the Dante Controller application from Audinate must be used.

For more information, consult the developer's documentation: www.audinate.com

AES67 is enabled by default. Dante devices cannot subscribe to AES67 flows from other Dante devices.

The device comes from the factory with the DHCP service activated. Therefore, the unit will automatically obtain a dynamic IP address provided by a DHCP server on the local area network to which it is connected, if such a server is available. However, specific static network parameters can be configured using Dante Controller, by accessing the window shown in this example:

Example Window: Dante Controller - Device View (BOB04-9b8cf0)

The unit's name displayed by default in Dante Controller is set at the factory as BOB-22-nnnnnn, where "nnnnnn" corresponds to the last 6 digits of each device's MAC address. However, it can be renamed via the following window:

Example Window: Dante Controller - Device View (BOB04-9b8cf0)

The routing of Dante/AES67 channel transmitters and receivers can be defined in the routing window, where all Dante-enabled devices detected on the network will also appear:
