1. Precautions

1.1 Important Note

CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. DO NOT OPEN.

WARNING: SHOCK HAZARD - DO NOT OPEN. AVIS: RISQUE DE CHOC ÉLECTRIQUE - NE PAS OUVRIR.

The lightning bolt symbol with an arrow inside an equilateral triangle warns the user of the presence of non-isolated "dangerous voltage" inside the product's enclosure, sufficient to constitute a risk of electric shock to persons.

The exclamation mark in an equilateral triangle warns the user of important operating and maintenance instructions (routine maintenance) in the documents accompanying the device.

WARNING (if applicable): Terminals marked with the symbol ⚡ may carry a current sufficient to constitute an electric shock hazard. External wiring connected to the terminals requires installation by an instructed person or the use of ready-made cables or cords.

WARNING: To prevent fire or electric shock, do not expose this apparatus to rain or moisture.

WARNING: Type I construction appliances must be connected using a plug with earth protection.

WARNING: Ecler products have a long lifespan of over 10 years. This product must not be disposed of as unsorted urban waste under any circumstances. Take it to the nearest electrical and electronic waste treatment center.

1.2 Important Safety Instructions

  1. Read these instructions.
  2. Keep these instructions.
  3. Heed all warnings.
  4. Follow all instructions.
  5. Do not use this apparatus near water.
  6. Clean only with a dry cloth.
  7. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  8. Do not install near heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
  9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades, one wider than the other. A grounding-type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The third prong is for your safety. If the supplied plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician to replace your obsolete outlet.
  10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
  11. Use only accessories recommended by the manufacturer.
  12. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods.
  13. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
  14. Disconnecting from the mains: Pressing the POWER switch disables the amplifier's functions and indicators, but complete disconnection from the mains is achieved by unplugging the power cord from the mains socket. This is why you must always have easy access to it.
  15. This apparatus must be connected to earth via its power cord.
  16. Part of the product labeling is located on the base/rear of the product.
  17. This apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing, and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus.

1.3 Cleaning

Clean the apparatus with a clean, soft, dry cloth or one slightly dampened with water and neutral liquid soap, then wipe it with a clean cloth. Ensure that water never enters the apparatus through its openings. Never use alcohol, benzine, solvents, or abrasive substances.

NEEC AUDIO BARCELONA, S.L. disclaims all responsibility for damages that may be caused to persons, animals, or objects due to non-compliance with the above warnings.

3. Package Contents

4. Description and Characteristics

The BOB-04 is a Dante/AES67 (Audio Over IP) digital audio interface. It provides 4 line-level audio outputs, converted from 4 Dante/AES67 (Audio Over IP) channels received from the digital audio Ethernet network to which it is connected.

The device features the PoE (Power over Ethernet) function for direct DC power supply from PoE-compatible Ethernet switches. An external 24 V DC power supply is available as an option (sold separately).

The BOB-04 is a generic Dante/AES67 device that can be used in combination with Ecler's Dante-compatible devices EclerNet / EclerPLEX / VIDA / HALO, or with any other third-party Dante/AES67 compatible device, but it is not a native EclerNet / EclerPLEX guest unit.

4.1 Main Characteristics

5. Install and Connect

5.1 Installation

The BOB-04 has been specially designed for 19" rack mounting, occupying one unit in height and half a unit in width. It includes an adapter that allows mounting a half-rack unit in a standard width rack (19"). Please follow the installation instructions for the adapter below.

! Since the device generates heat, it is very important that it is not completely enclosed or exposed to extreme temperatures.

! If the installation includes several heat-generating devices in the same rack or is done in enclosed cabinets with doors, it is highly recommended to equip these with forced ascending ventilation by installing fans at the top and bottom. This ascending ventilation flow will promote heat dissipation inside.

5.1.1 Half-rack adapter mounting

The BOB-04 includes an adapter that allows mounting a half-rack unit in a standard width rack (19").

Step 1: Unscrew the 3 screws from one of the side brackets.

Step 2: To attach the supplied half-rack front panel adapter, use the 3 screws previously removed.

5.2 Connections

5.2.1 Analog Audio Outputs

The BOB-04 features 4 balanced analog outputs on the rear panel that produce line-level signals. The signal output connectors are 3-pole screw terminals. The wiring is:

For unbalanced connection, short the pin to the ⏚ terminal as shown in the image.

5.2.2 Ethernet Port / Dante/AES67

The RJ-45 type ETHERNET connector on the rear panel allows connecting the device to an Ethernet network.

The BOB-04 allows reception of 4 Dante/AES67 channels. For more information on network configuration and Dante routing, please refer to chapter 7.

6. Startup and Operation

If the Ethernet switch does not provide power via PoE, connect the external power supply (sold separately) to the DC IN connector on the rear panel.

? To avoid hum, do not let the power cable run alongside shielded cables carrying the audio signal.

When the ON LED on the front panel is lit green, the device is operational.

7. Network Configuration and Dante/AES67 Routing

The routing of Dante/AES67 digital audio signals over the Ethernet network, as well as the network configuration of Dante/AES67 ports (IP address, mask, etc.), are managed by the Dante Controller software application.

For complete information, refer to the developer's documentation: www.audinate.com

AES67 is enabled by default. Dante devices cannot receive AES67 streams from other Dante devices.

The device ships from the factory with DHCP service enabled, meaning the unit will automatically obtain an IP address dynamically provided by a DHCP server on the local network it is connected to, if available. However, specific static network parameters can be configured with Dante Controller, by accessing the window shown in this example:

Dante Controller - Device View (BOB04-9b8cf0)

The default name of the unit (the name under which it appears in Dante Controller) is always factory set to BOB-04-nnnnnn, where "nnnnnn" corresponds to the last 6 digits of the MAC address of each device. In any case, this name can be changed by accessing this window:

Dante Controller - Device View (BOB04-9b8cf0)

The routing of Dante/AES67 transmit and receive channels can be defined in the Routing window, which also displays all Dante-compatible devices detected on the network:
