3. Package Contents

4. Description and Characteristics

The BOB-22 is a digital audio interface with 2 line/microphone level audio inputs, 2 line level audio outputs, and a Dante/AES67 (Audio Over IP) interface. It allows converting 2 Dante/AES67 channels into 2 line level analog audio output signals and vice versa, by converting 2 line/microphone analog audio inputs into 2 Dante/AES67 channels for transmission over an Ethernet network.

The unit features the PoE (Power over Ethernet) function for DC power supply directly from PoE-compatible Ethernet switches. An external 24 VDC power supply is available as an option (sold separately).

The BOB-22 is a generic Dante/AES67 unit that can be used in combination with compatible Dante EclerNet / EclerPLEX / VIDA / HALO units from Ecler, or with any other third-party Dante/AES67 compatible unit, but it is not a native EclerNet / EclerPLEX guest unit.

4.1 Main Characteristics

5. Installation and Connection

5.1 Installation

The BOB-22 has been specially designed for 19" rack mounting, occupying one unit of height and half a unit of width. It includes an adapter that allows mounting a half-rack unit in a standard width rack (19"). Please follow the installation instructions for the adapter below.

? The unit generates heat, so it is very important that it is not completely enclosed or exposed to extreme temperatures.

⚠️ If the installation includes several heat-generating units in the same rack or is done in closed cabinets with doors, it is highly recommended to equip these with forced upward ventilation by installing fans at the top and bottom. This upward ventilation flow will promote heat dissipation inside.

5.1.1 Half-rack adapter mounting

The BOB-22 includes an adapter that allows mounting a half-rack unit in a standard width rack (19").

Step 1: Unscrew the 3 screws from one of the side brackets.

Step 2: To attach the included half-rack faceplate adapter, use the 3 screws previously removed.

5.2 Connections

5.2.1 Analog Audio Inputs

The BOB-22 has 2 balanced analog inputs on the rear panel that accept line or microphone level signals and are compatible with phantom power.

The input signal connectors are 3-pole screw terminals. The wiring is:

⚠️ For unbalanced connection, short the ⊥ pin to the - pin as shown in the image.

Microphone Signal: The 2 channels feature a Euroblock connection and are designed for a nominal input level of -50 dBV to 0 dBV, with adjustable gain via the GAIN control on the rear panel.

Microphone connection is shown in the following diagram:

Balanced:

Unbalanced:

? Microphones should be low impedance (200 to 600 Ω) and mono.

Each analog input has its own gain control.

The BOB-22 features phantom power for condenser microphones, which can be activated by an internal jumper (see diagram below).

? Phantom power is disabled by default (factory setting).

5.2.2 Analog Audio Outputs

The BOB-22 has 2 balanced analog outputs on the rear panel that provide line level signals.

The output signal connectors are 3-pole screw terminals. The wiring is:

⚠️ For unbalanced connection, short the ⊥ pin to the - pin as shown in the image.

5.2.3 Ethernet / Dante/AES67 Port

The RJ-45 type ETHERNET connector on the rear panel allows connecting the unit to an Ethernet network.

The BOB-22 allows transmission and reception of 2x2 Dante/AES67 channels.

For more information on network configuration and Dante routing, please refer to the chapter “Network configuration and Dante/AES67 routing”.

6. Startup and Operation

If the Ethernet switch does not provide DC power via PoE, connect the external power supply (sold separately) to the DC IN connector on the rear panel.

? To avoid hum, do not let the power cord run alongside shielded cables carrying the audio signal.

When the front panel ON LED is lit green, the unit is operational.

7. Network Configuration and Dante/AES67 Routing

The routing of Dante/AES67 digital audio signals over the Ethernet network, as well as the network configuration of the Dante/AES67 ports (IP address, mask, etc.), are managed by the Dante Controller software application.

For complete information, refer to the developer's documentation: www.audinate.com

AES67 is enabled by default. Dante units cannot receive AES67 streams from other Dante units.

The unit ships from the factory with DHCP service enabled, meaning the unit will automatically obtain an IP address dynamically provided by a local network DHCP server if connected. However, specific static network parameters can be configured with Dante Controller, by accessing the window shown in this example:

The default unit name (the name under which it appears in Dante Controller) is always set at the factory to BOB-22-nnnnnn, where “nnnnnn” corresponds to the last 6 digits of the MAC address of each unit. In any case, this name can be changed by accessing this window:

The routing of Dante/AES67 transmit and receive channels can be defined in the Routing window, which also displays all Dante-compatible units detected on the network:
