Minelab EQUINOX 600/800 Metal Detector Quick Start Guide

Assembly

1. Connecting the Coil to the Lower Shaft

Diagram shows inserting two rubber washers into the yoke's slots, sliding the yoke onto the coil's shaft, aligning the coil connector with the control box slot, and tightening the locking ring.

2. Assembling the Shaft

Diagram shows loosening a twist lock [twist-lock-symbol], sliding the lower shaft into the middle shaft until it clicks [click-symbol], and tightening the twist lock. This is repeated for the middle and upper shafts.

3. Connecting the Handle/Armrest

Diagram shows placing the handle on the upper shaft, aligning holes [hole-alignment-symbol], inserting a screw [screw-symbol], and securing a hand strap with a nylon fastener [nylon-fastener-symbol].

4. Connecting the Coil

Diagram shows wrapping the coil cable around the shafts and securing it with Velcro straps [velcro-symbol].

Battery Charging

The EQUINOX series detectors feature a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. For the fastest charge, turn off the detector while charging.

1. Connect the magnetic charging cable's USB connector to any standard powered USB port.

2. Connect the magnetic charger connector to the slot on the back of the detector's control unit. The charge status LED indicator on the top left of the control unit will flash steadily [charging-indicator-flashing].

3. The charge status LED indicator will remain solid when charging is complete [charging-indicator-solid].

Audio

The EQUINOX series detectors have an external speaker, allowing detection without headphones. Various other audio options are available. Refer to the full manual for more information.

Quick Start: 4 Simple Steps

Note: It is recommended to charge the battery for 4 hours before first use.

1. Power On

Press the power button [power-button-symbol] located on the side of the control unit.

2. Select Detect Mode

Choose the optimal search profile for your location. (Illustration shows EQUINOX 800).

3. Noise Cancel

From the settings menu, select Noise Cancel and press [button-symbol] to initiate automatic noise cancellation. This process takes approximately 8 seconds.

4. Start Detecting!

Press the [button-symbol] to return to the detection screen and begin detecting!

Detection Modes

Each detection mode includes two adjustable search profiles and unique default settings.

Park

Ideal for high-trash recreational areas, including most general detecting.

Field

Ideal for detecting a wide range of targets in historical fields.

Beach

Optimized for all saltwater conditions (dry sand, wet sand, surf, and underwater).

Goldfield*

*This asterisk indicates features exclusive to the EQUINOX 800 model.

Best suited for gold nugget prospecting in mineralized goldfields.

User Interface

Adjust and view detector settings.

Power Button

Short press the power button [power-button-symbol] to turn the detector on or off. Long press for 5 seconds to reset the detector to factory settings.

Backlight

Select backlight brightness* or turn backlight on/off. The backlight icon [backlight-symbol] will be displayed when the backlight is on.

Sensitivity

Adjust sensitivity levels (25 levels) using the [-] and [+] buttons.

Detect Mode Button

Short press to cycle through detection modes [mode-cycle-symbol]. Press and hold for 5 seconds to restore the active search profile to its factory preset.

Detector Settings Menu

Short press the settings button [gear-icon] to enter and cycle through the detector settings menu. Long press the settings button to enter advanced settings (if available). Adjust selected settings using the [-] and [+] buttons.

Wireless Audio

Short press the wireless button [wireless-button-symbol] to turn wireless on/off. Long press to pair wireless audio devices (any Bluetooth headphones, aptX™ Low Latency headphones, or WM 08 wireless audio module). Up to 4 wireless devices can be paired and used simultaneously.

Battery Status

LED indicator shows charging status [battery-status-indicator]. Can detect while connected to a USB power bank, acting like a spare battery.

Sensitivity Indicator

Indicates approximate sensitivity level (25 levels).

Depth Indicator

Indicates estimated target depth (5 levels).

Tracking

Indicates ground balance tracking is in progress [tracking-indicator-symbol].

User Profiles*

Long press the user profile button [user-profile-button-symbol] to save current detector settings. Short press to turn saved user profiles on or off.

Discrimination

High-resolution 50-segment discrimination (-9 to 40) for precise and stable target identification. When a target is detected, press the Accept/Reject button [accept-reject-button-symbol] to instantly accept or reject it. You can also create discrimination patterns via the settings menu. Press [-] or [+] to move to a segment, then press Accept/Reject button to accept or reject it.

Target ID

Target ID -9 to 0 indicates ferrous targets, such as -5. Target ID 1 to 40 indicates non-ferrous targets, such as 32.

Frequency

Displays the current operating frequency. Press the frequency button [frequency-button-symbol] at any time to cycle through the available operating frequencies for the active search profile: 5, 10, 15, 20*, or 40*. Displays the currently selected single frequency (kHz): 5, 10, 15, 20*, or 40*. Displays a square symbol [multi-frequency-symbol] when operating in multi-frequency.

Press the All Metal button [all-metal-button-symbol] to turn the selected discrimination mode on or off, allowing for target confirmation.

Pinpoint

Helps determine the precise location of a target before recovery. Press the Pinpoint/Detect button [pinpoint-detect-button-symbol] to enable pinpoint mode. Press the button again to return to the detection screen.
