This guide provides essential steps to begin using your Minelab EQUINOX 600 or 800 metal detector.
4 Easy Steps to Get Started
- Turn On: Press the Power button. It is recommended to fully charge the battery for 4 hours before first use.
- Select Detect Mode: Choose the optimal detect mode for your location. (EQUINOX 800 is shown in diagrams).
- Noise Cancel: Select Noise Cancellation from the settings menu, then press to initiate auto noise cancellation. This process takes approximately 8 seconds.
- Start Detecting: Press the button and begin detecting!
Assembly Instructions
Follow these steps to assemble your detector:

Wrap Coil Cable: Wrap the coil cable around the lower and middle shafts. Use the Velcro tab to secure it.

Connect Shafts: Insert the shaft sections into each other and tighten the locking mechanism.

Attach Coil: Insert the yoke bolt through the coil yoke and the yoke bracket on the shaft. Align the holes and tighten.

Secure Coil: Insert the coil onto the shaft. Align the holes and tighten the securing bolt.

Search Modes
Each detect mode offers two adjustable search profiles with unique default settings. The asterisk (*) indicates features available only on the EQUINOX 800 model.

Park: Ideal for recreational areas with more trash, suitable for a wide range of target sizes.

Control Panel Overview
Familiarize yourself with the detector's control panel to adjust settings.
Key Controls and Indicators:
- Power Button: Short press to turn the detector on/off. Long press (5 seconds) resets the detector to factory settings.
- Backlight: Select backlight brightness or turn it on/off. The backlight icon appears when active.
- Sensitivity Indicator: Shows the approximate sensitivity level (25 levels). Use the +/- buttons to adjust sensitivity.
- Detect Mode: Select modes like Park, Field, Beach, and Gold*. Each mode has 2 customizable search profiles. Use the Mode button to cycle through modes. Long press the Mode button (5 seconds) to reset the active search profile to its factory preset.
- Detector Settings Menu: Press the Menu button to enter the detector menu list. Long press the Menu button to access Advanced Settings. Use the +/- buttons to adjust selected setting values.
- Advanced Settings: Includes Noise Cancel (Auto/Manual*), Ground Balance (Auto/Manual), Volume (0-25), Threshold Level (0-25), Tone Volume (Iron/Non-ferrous*), Threshold Tone (Iron/Non-ferrous*), Tone Volume (Iron/Non-ferrous*), Accept/Reject Tone, Target Tones (1, 2, 5, and 50), Recovery Speed (1-3 / 1-8*), All-Metal, and Iron Bias (0-30 / 0-9*).
- All-Metal Button: Press to toggle the selected discrimination pattern on and off for target confirmation.
- Battery Status: An LED indicates charging status. Flashing means charging; solid on means fully charged. Charge the battery when the icon begins to flash.
- Wireless Audio: Short press the Wireless button to toggle wireless audio on/off. Long press to pair wireless audio devices.
- Depth Indicator: Shows the estimated depth of detected targets (5 levels).
- User Profile*: Long press the User Profile button to save current detector settings. Short press to toggle a saved user profile on or off.
- Notch Discrimination: Features high-resolution 50 segments (-9 to 40) for accurate, stable target identification. Navigate segments with +/- and accept/reject with the Accept/Reject button. Discrimination patterns can also be created via the settings menu.
- Pinpoint: Assists in precisely locating a target before recovery. Press the Pinpoint/Detect button to enable Pinpoint mode. Press again to return to the Detect screen.
- Target ID: Displays a numerical value for target identification. Values -9 to 0 indicate iron targets (e.g., -5). Values 1 to 40 indicate non-ferrous targets (e.g., 32).
- Frequency: Displays the current operating frequency. Press the Frequency button to select single frequencies (5, 10, 15, 20*, or 40* kHz). Multi-frequency operation is indicated by a rectangle.
