BRITA Water Filter Jug: User Guide
Thank you for choosing BRITA quality for cleaner, fresher tasting water. The MAXTRA+ water filter is key to achieving this.
BRITA MicroFlow Technology
This innovative technology ensures powerful water filtration. It uses Micro Carbon Pearls made from natural coconut shells to effectively lock away taste and odour impairing substances like chlorine. Ion-Exchange Pearls reduce limescale for appliance protection and reduce metals like lead and copper.
MAXTRA+ FlowControl & PerfectFit
MAXTRA+ FlowControl ensures optimal filtration time through the combination of the MAXTRA+ filter and the BRITA jug funnel. BRITA PerfectFit design guarantees a proper seal for reliable filtration.
MAXTRA+ Water Filter Lifespan
The filter life depends on local water quality and hardness, filtering up to 100 litres in hard water areas. For optimal performance, replace the MAXTRA+ filter every four weeks. Your BRITA jug is equipped with a filter exchange indicator.
Over 50 Years of Experience
BRITA stands for innovation and quality, backed by stringent internal and external quality controls. The independent TÜV SÜD regularly inspects and certifies the quality of BRITA products.
100% Satisfaction Guarantee
BRITA is confident in its product's quality and performance. If you are not satisfied within 30 days of purchase, BRITA offers a money-back guarantee. Please refer to the manual for return instructions.
BRITA Recycling
Used MAXTRA+ water filters are recyclable. BRITA has an extensive retail recycling program to minimize environmental impact.
Getting Started: Quality from the Start
Follow these instructions carefully for optimal results.
Cleaning Your New BRITA Water Filter Jug
Funnel and Jug: Dishwasher safe (max. 50°C). For best results, turn the funnel upside down and let tap water flow through the valve. Clean immediately if in contact with staining foods like ketchup or mustard. Avoid washing with heavily soiled dishes.
Lid with BRITA Smart Light (A1): Before dishwasher cleaning, remove the Smart Light by turning it anti-clockwise. The Smart Light itself should not be washed in the dishwasher; clean it by hand with a soft, damp cloth. Reinsert by turning clockwise until it clicks. (A2)
Lid with non-removable BRITA Memo (K): Do not wash in the dishwasher; clean by hand.
Tip: Use mild detergents. For descaling, use a household citric acid-based descaler.
Preparing the MAXTRA+ Water Filter (B)
BRITA uses hot steam treatment for ultimate hygiene. Remove the filter from its protective wrapper (it may be damp). Fill the clean jug with cold water. Immerse the MAXTRA+ filter in cold water and shake gently to remove air bubbles. Remove the filter and discard the water.
Inserting the MAXTRA+ Water Filter (C)
Ensure the MAXTRA+ filter is correctly inserted for optimal filtration. The PerfectFit system ensures water only flows when the filter is properly seated. Place the funnel (4) into the jug (5). Insert the MAXTRA+ filter into the funnel's hollow and push down firmly until it seals. If no water flows, the filter is not seated correctly; push it down further. BRITA jugs are designed specifically for MAXTRA+ filters.
Filling the BRITA Water Filter Jug
The filling method depends on the lid type:
Jug with flip top lid (D): Press the lid onto the jug. Open the flip top lid and fill directly under the tap.
Jug without pour-through opening (E): Remove the lid, fill the funnel with cold tap water, then replace the lid.
Activating the MAXTRA+ Water Filter (F)
Activate the filter with the first two fillings. Discard this water or use it for plants. The jug is ready for use from the third filling. If carbon particles are released, rinse the funnel and reinsert the filter. Refer to "Natural Traces" for more information.
Setting the Water Filter Exchange Indicator
Your BRITA jug has an indicator to remind you when to change the MAXTRA+ filter. BRITA recommends changing it every four weeks for optimal performance.
Variants of the Lid
BRITA Smart Light (G): This indicator monitors filtration performance and intuitively signals when to change the filter. It uses an intelligent sensor that considers both time and volume filtered. To activate, press the reset button (H) for 5-10 seconds until the LED blinks green three times (I). The jug is now ready.
The Smart Light uses different coloured flashing lights to indicate filter status:
- Green light: Optimal performance.
- Yellow light: Time to replace soon; get a new filter.
- Red light: Replace the filter immediately (after approx. 4 weeks or 100L usage).
You can check the filter status anytime by pressing the BRITA Smart Light (H I).
BRITA Memo (J K): This indicator reminds you to change the MAXTRA+ filter every four weeks. After activating a new filter, remove the protective foil from the Memo display and press START until all four bars appear and flash twice. A small flashing dot indicates the Memo is working. Each bar represents about one week of filter life. Replace the filter when all bars disappear and the arrow flashes.
Replacing the MAXTRA+ Water Filter (L)
Pull out the MAXTRA+ water filter. Follow the instructions from step 1 to 6 in the "Quality from the very start" section.
Important Notes
Do not expose the jug to direct sunlight or heating elements. Store in a cool, shady place.
BRITA filtered water is for human consumption only and is perishable; consume within one day.
Always have a new MAXTRA+ filter ready. Store filters in their original packaging in a cool, dry place.
Limescale may build up on the lid due to contact with unfiltered water. Clean and descale the lid and Smart Light regularly with a citric acid-based descaler.
If the BRITA Smart Light is dropped, check for damage and replace if necessary. Dispose of devices according to applicable regulations. Keep Smart Light out of reach of children.
If the jug is not used for a prolonged period (e.g., holiday), remove the filter, empty the jug, and loosely reinsert the filter. Before reuse, clean the filter and repeat steps 3-5. Pay attention to the exchange indicator.
Clean immediately if in contact with staining foods to avoid discoloration. Do not wash with heavily soiled dishes.
Optimum Performance
Filter only cold tap water.
If boiling water is necessary: filter first, then boil.
BRITA jugs are designed for municipally treated tap water or tested private water. If authorities instruct to boil tap water, BRITA filtered water must also be boiled. After the instruction is lifted, clean the jug thoroughly and insert a new filter.
Boiling is generally recommended for babies and those with weakened immune systems, whether the water is filtered or not. Always use stainless steel utensils or kettles with concealed elements, especially if sensitive to nickel.
Ultimate Hygiene
The MAXTRA+ filter material is treated with silver for hygiene. A small amount of silver may transfer to the water, within WHO guidelines.
Sensitive to Potassium?
Potassium content may slightly increase during filtration. One litre of BRITA filtered water contains less potassium than an apple. Consult your doctor if you have kidney disease or a potassium-restricted diet.
Natural Traces
Micro Carbon Pearls may cause slight abrasion of small carbon particles (black bits) in filtered water. These particles are harmless and pass through the body unchanged. If observed, flush the filter several times until they disappear.
Disposing of BRITA Smart Light and BRITA Memo
The Smart Light and Memo contain batteries and have a lifespan of approximately five years. Dispose of them according to applicable regulations. Remove Smart Light by turning anti-clockwise (A1). Remove Memo by inserting a screwdriver into the notch and pushing it out. Do not remove the Memo for any reason other than disposal.
Exclusion of Liability
BRITA is not liable for damages resulting from failure to follow these instructions. Dispose of the jug according to local regulations.
