BRITA Water Filter Jug with MAXTRA+ Filter: User Guide
Thank you for choosing BRITA quality for cleaner, fresher tasting water.
About BRITA Water Filtration
The BRITA water filter jug, featuring the innovative BRITA MicroFlow Technology with MAXTRA+ filters, provides powerful water filtration. The filter uses Micro Carbon Pearls from natural coconut shells to effectively capture substances like chlorine that affect taste and odour. Ion-Exchange Pearls reduce limescale, protecting appliances, and reduce metals like lead and copper from your tap water.
MAXTRA+ FlowControl ensures optimal filtration time by perfectly combining the MAXTRA+ filter and the jug's funnel. The BRITA PerfectFit system guarantees a perfect fit for optimal filtration, ensuring water only flows when the filter is correctly inserted and sealed.
The lifetime of a MAXTRA+ water filter depends on local water quality, typically filtering up to 100 litres in hard water areas. For best performance, replace the filter every four weeks. Your BRITA water filter jug is equipped with a filter exchange indicator to remind you.
With over 50 years of experience, BRITA is committed to innovation and quality, backed by stringent internal and external quality controls verified by the independent TÜV SÜD. BRITA offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee (30-day money-back).
Used MAXTRA+ water filters are recyclable. Visit www.BRITA.com for more information on BRITA's recycling program.
Getting Started: First Use and Filter Changes
Cleaning Your New BRITA Water Filter Jug
Funnel and Jug: These parts are dishwasher safe (max. 50°C). For best cleaning, turn the funnel upside down and let tap water flow through the valve for a few seconds. Clean immediately if in contact with staining foods (e.g., ketchup, mustard) to prevent discoloration. Avoid washing with heavily stained crockery in the dishwasher.
Lid with BRITA Smart Light: Before dishwasher cleaning, remove the Smart Light by turning it anti-clockwise. Do not wash the Smart Light in the dishwasher; clean it by hand with a soft, damp cloth. Reinsert it clockwise until it clicks.
Lid with non-removable BRITA Memo: Do not wash in the dishwasher; clean by hand.
Tip: Use mild detergents and no abrasive cleaners. For descaling, use a household citric acid-based descaler.
Preparing the MAXTRA+ Water Filter
BRITA uses hot steam treatment for ultimate hygiene. Remove the filter from its protective wrapper (it may be damp). Fill the clean jug with cold water. Immerse the filter in cold water, shake gently to remove air bubbles, then remove and discard the water.
Inserting the MAXTRA+ Water Filter
Ensure the MAXTRA+ filter is correctly inserted for optimal filtration. The PerfectFit system ensures water only flows when the filter is properly seated and sealed. Insert the funnel into the jug. Place the MAXTRA+ filter into the funnel's hollow and push down firmly. If no water flows after filling, the filter is not seated correctly; push it down further and try again. BRITA jugs are designed specifically for MAXTRA+ filters.
Filling the BRITA Water Filter Jug
The filling method depends on the lid type:
- Jug with flip-top lid: Press the lid firmly onto the jug. Open the flip-top lid and fill under the tap.
- Jug without pour-through opening: Remove the lid, fill the funnel with cold tap water, then replace the lid firmly.
Activating the MAXTRA+ Water Filter
The filter needs activation with the first two fillings. Discard or use this water for plants. The third filling makes the filter ready for use.
Setting the Water Filter Exchange Indicator
Your jug has an indicator to remind you when to change the filter. BRITA recommends changing it every four weeks for optimal performance.
- BRITA Smart Light: The Smart Light monitors filtration and indicates replacement time intuitively. It uses a sensor to track time and volume filtered. To activate, press the Smart Light LED reset button for 5-10 seconds until the green LED flashes three times. The jug is now ready.
- Smart Light Indicators:
- Green Light: Filter is optimal.
- Yellow Light: Time to replace soon, stock up.
- Red Light: Replace filter (after 4 weeks or 100L).
- Check filter status anytime by pressing the Smart Light.
- BRITA Memo: The Memo reminds you to change the filter every four weeks. After activating the filter, remove the protective foil from the Memo display. Press START until four bars appear and flash twice. A small dot indicates the Memo is working. Each bar represents approx. one week. Replace the filter when all bars disappear and the arrow flashes.
Replacing the MAXTRA+ Water Filter
Pull out the MAXTRA+ filter. Follow the initial setup steps (1-6) for replacement.
Important Notes & Best Practices
- Storage: Do not expose the jug to direct sunlight or heating elements. Store in a cool, shady place.
- Water Quality: BRITA filtered water is for human consumption only and is perishable; consume within one day.
- Filter Storage: Always have a new MAXTRA+ filter ready. Store spare filters in their original packaging, in a cool, dry place.
- Cleaning: Limescale may build up on the lid; clean regularly with a citric acid-based descaler. Handle the BRITA Smart Light with care; replace if damaged. Dispose of electronic components and the jug according to local regulations. Keep electronic components out of reach of children.
- Extended Non-Use: If the jug is not used for a prolonged period (e.g., holiday), remove the filter, empty the jug, and loosely reinsert the filter. Before reuse, clean the filter and repeat initial setup steps 3-5. Pay attention to the exchange indicator.
- Staining Foods: Clean immediately if in contact with staining foods (e.g., ketchup, mustard) to prevent discoloration.
- Optimal Performance: Filter only cold tap water.
- Boiling Water: If tap water requires boiling due to health advisories, BRITA filtered water must also be boiled. After the advisory is lifted, clean the jug thoroughly and insert a new filter.
- Hygiene: The filter material is treated with silver; a small amount may transfer to water, within WHO guidelines.
- Potassium Sensitivity: Potassium content may slightly increase, but BRITA filtered water contains less potassium than an apple. Consult a doctor if you have kidney issues or a low-potassium diet.
- Natural Traces: Small carbon particles may appear in filtered water; they are harmless. If observed, flush the filter several times until they disappear.
- Disposal: Dispose of the BRITA Smart Light and Memo according to regulations (they contain batteries with approx. 5-year life). Dispose of the jug according to local regulations.
- Exclusion of Liability: BRITA is not liable for damages resulting from failure to follow instructions.
