8. Mechanical Installation
An installation cut-out for the car radio is provided in most vehicles. The choice of the installation location depends on safety aspects. The device requires a DIN installation cut-out with the dimensions 182 x 53 mm. Should there be no installation cut-out, consult your car dealer.
? Please select the place of installation carefully so that the device neither impedes the driver nor distracts them from what is happening on the road.
Use the supplied installation material for a safe installation. Modifications must not affect traffic safety or car stability. Cutting sheet metal may void type approval. The installation location must be heat-resistant. Ensure no electric cables, brake lines, or fuel tank can be damaged when drilling. Follow manufacturer's safety instructions when using tools. Secure components to prevent them from becoming dangerous in an accident. A minimum installation depth of 100 mm is required.
a) Installation into the radio recess
- Unlock the installation frame with the two unlocking keys.
- Remove the installation frame towards the back of the device.
- Insert the installation frame into the respective cut-out in the vehicle.
- Bend down clips in the installation frame until it is securely fastened.
- After making all electrical contacts, insert the device into the installation frame until it locks.
Keep the two unlocking keys in a safe place for later removal.
b) Removal
- Unlock the device by inserting the two unlocking keys into the side slots.
- Carefully pull the car radio out of the installation frame.
- Loosen all plug connectors on the back of the device.
c) DAB antenna
? For adhesive installation, a minimum temperature of 15 °C is required. Clean adhesive areas with a suitable cleaner (e.g., rubbing alcohol) before installation.
The antenna should not be attached near metallised windscreen parts or heating wires. Do not attach the antenna within the driver's field of view, as it should not interfere with clear vision of the road. Select the installation place considering the length of connecting cables. Ensure cables are long enough to reach the car radio. DAB antenna and connecting cables must never be installed within the release range of an air bag.
The antenna should be mounted within the upper corner of the windscreen and A-pillar (top right from the driver's perspective). A diagram shows mounting position with dimensions 150 mm and 70 mm.
The black electronics box and antenna wire should be attached to the windscreen, and the copper-coloured ground plane to a metal part of the windscreen frame, ensuring the coating is intact. Peel off protective films and attach the antenna so the cable outlet faces the A-pillar covering. Do not subject the antenna to mechanical strain for 24 hours. Guide connecting cables to the car radio installation recess.
9. Electrical Connection
? Electrical connection must always be carried out by a specialist.
To avoid short-circuits, disconnect the negative pole of the vehicle battery during electrical connection. Only reconnect the battery after all connections are made and checked.
Use only a voltmeter or diode test lamp for voltage checks, as regular test lamps can consume excessive voltage and damage vehicle electronics.
When laying cables, ensure they are not squeezed or abraded on sharp edges. Use rubber grommets for lead-through points.
Speaker lines must be bifilar cable. Insulate bare wires at terminals. Ensure no sharp edges damage cables. Speakers must have a sufficiently high power rating (see "Technical data"). Ensure correct polarity (+/-) matches. Connecting cables are usually coded; some use an additional colour band, others a corrugated line for (+) and a smooth one for (-). The system is designed for speaker impedances of at least 4 Ohm. Never connect speakers with lower impedance.
In most vehicles, cables are laid directly to the installation recess. If not, ensure later cables are secured by on-board fuses (see vehicle operation manual).
a) Connecting the Antennas
FM Antenna
- Insert the car's antenna plug into the FM antenna port (24) on the back of the device.
- If your vehicle has a different antenna plug, use a suitable adapter.
DAB Antenna
- Insert the included DAB antenna plug into the DAB antenna port (20) on the back of the car radio.
- Manually tighten the union nut to secure the antenna.
- Connect the thin black wire of the DAB antenna to the antenna control output of the ISO plug (system plug A, terminal 5, blue wire).
b) Connecting the LINE Outputs
The car radio has LINE outputs (23) for connecting a power amplifier.
? The LINE outputs (23) should only be connected via suitable shielded cinch wires. Other cables may cause interferences.
Keep connecting cables short and away from other cables to avoid interferences. Connect cinch connectors only to devices with suitable cinch terminals to prevent distortions.
Connect the inputs of the power amplifier to the LINE outputs (23) on the back of the device. The red socket is for the right channel and the white socket for the left channel.

d) Using the FM Radio
RDS as Reception Concept
“RDS” (Radio Data System) transmits additional inaudible coded information via RDS stations. The car radio evaluates this data.
Essential additional data transmitted:
- Programme Identification (PI)
- Traffic Programme (TP)
- Traffic Announcement (TA)
- Programme Service (PS)
- Alternative Frequencies (AF)
- Programme Type (PTY)
Programme Identification (PI)
Helps the receiver identify a station and differentiate areas with the same programme. If the reception signal weakens, the car radio switches to a station with a stronger signal if it transmits the same programme with identical identification.
Traffic Programme (TP)
Enables the receiver to detect a station with a traffic programme.
Traffic Announcement (TA)
Allows the receiver to detect a traffic announcement and interrupt playback of a different audio source.
Programme Service (PS)
Indicates the station name (e.g., BAYERN 3) on the display.
Alternative Frequencies (AF)
A list of alternative frequencies for the same programme. If the received signal becomes too weak, the AF signal helps find a station with a stronger signal.
Programme Type (PTY)
Provides information about the programme type (e.g., sports, classic, news). A national disaster alarm can also be transmitted. Not all stations offer PTY service.
When leaving a transmission area, the RDS system switches to a better-received station with the same programme. The RDS system cannot eliminate short signal attenuations to prevent constant switching.
The station name is displayed on the car radio display.
