8. Mechanical Installation

An installation cut-out for the car radio is provided in most vehicles. The choice of the installation location depends on safety aspects. The device requires a DIN installation cut-out with the dimensions 182 x 53 mm. Should there be no installation cut-out, consult your car dealer.

? Please select the place of installation carefully so that the device neither impedes the driver nor distracts them from what is happening on the road.

Use the supplied installation material for a safe installation. Modifications must not affect traffic safety or car stability. Cutting sheet metal may void type approval. The installation location must be heat-resistant. Ensure no electric cables, brake lines, or fuel tank can be damaged when drilling. Follow manufacturer's safety instructions when using tools. Secure components to prevent them from becoming dangerous in an accident. A minimum installation depth of 100 mm is required.

a) Installation into the radio recess

  1. Unlock the installation frame with the two unlocking keys.
  2. Remove the installation frame towards the back of the device.
  3. Insert the installation frame into the respective cut-out in the vehicle.
  4. Bend down clips in the installation frame until it is securely fastened.
  5. After making all electrical contacts, insert the device into the installation frame until it locks.

Keep the two unlocking keys in a safe place for later removal.

b) Removal

  1. Unlock the device by inserting the two unlocking keys into the side slots.
  2. Carefully pull the car radio out of the installation frame.
  3. Loosen all plug connectors on the back of the device.

c) DAB antenna

? For adhesive installation, a minimum temperature of 15 °C is required. Clean adhesive areas with a suitable cleaner (e.g., rubbing alcohol) before installation.

The antenna should not be attached near metallised windscreen parts or heating wires. Do not attach the antenna within the driver's field of view, as it should not interfere with clear vision of the road. Select the installation place considering the length of connecting cables. Ensure cables are long enough to reach the car radio. DAB antenna and connecting cables must never be installed within the release range of an air bag.

The antenna should be mounted within the upper corner of the windscreen and A-pillar (top right from the driver's perspective). A diagram shows mounting position with dimensions 150 mm and 70 mm.

The black electronics box and antenna wire should be attached to the windscreen, and the copper-coloured ground plane to a metal part of the windscreen frame, ensuring the coating is intact. Peel off protective films and attach the antenna so the cable outlet faces the A-pillar covering. Do not subject the antenna to mechanical strain for 24 hours. Guide connecting cables to the car radio installation recess.

9. Electrical Connection

? Electrical connection must always be carried out by a specialist.

To avoid short-circuits, disconnect the negative pole of the vehicle battery during electrical connection. Only reconnect the battery after all connections are made and checked.

Use only a voltmeter or diode test lamp for voltage checks, as regular test lamps can consume excessive voltage and damage vehicle electronics.

When laying cables, ensure they are not squeezed or abraded on sharp edges. Use rubber grommets for lead-through points.

Speaker lines must be bifilar cable. Insulate bare wires at terminals. Ensure no sharp edges damage cables. Speakers must have a sufficiently high power rating (see "Technical data"). Ensure correct polarity (+/-) matches. Connecting cables are usually coded; some use an additional colour band, others a corrugated line for (+) and a smooth one for (-). The system is designed for speaker impedances of at least 4 Ohm. Never connect speakers with lower impedance.

In most vehicles, cables are laid directly to the installation recess. If not, ensure later cables are secured by on-board fuses (see vehicle operation manual).

DAB Antenna

b) Connecting the LINE Outputs

The car radio has LINE outputs (23) for connecting a power amplifier.

? The LINE outputs (23) should only be connected via suitable shielded cinch wires. Other cables may cause interferences.

Keep connecting cables short and away from other cables to avoid interferences. Connect cinch connectors only to devices with suitable cinch terminals to prevent distortions.

Connect the inputs of the power amplifier to the LINE outputs (23) on the back of the device. The red socket is for the right channel and the white socket for the left channel.

c) AUX Port

You can connect an external audio device (e.g., portable MP3 player) to the AUX port (18). The signal is played back via the speakers.

d) Connecting the Speakers and the Power Supply

Vehicles with an ISO plug can be connected directly to the ISO terminal (21) if the plug configuration matches. Use a vehicle-specific adapter if the configuration differs.

Contact assignment of the ISO terminal (21) is shown in figures. Consult your car dealer for your vehicle's specific assignment.

Terminal B (Speaker Terminal)

Terminal A (Power Supply)

Terminal (4) must be connected to a cable that supplies 12 V permanently (terminal 30 of vehicle electrical system) to save user settings, time, etc.

Terminal (5) supplies 12 V when the device is on, powering the DAB antenna and car amplifier. The DAB antenna's black wire connects here.

Terminal (7) must be connected to a cable supplying 12 V only when ignition is on (terminal 15 of vehicle electrical system). Do not connect to continuous current to avoid battery discharge.

Connect the ground connection (8) to the vehicle body. Note that painted metal parts may impair conductivity; not all metal parts are suitable earthing points.

10. Operation

? Do not put the device into operation until you have familiarised yourself with the functions and operating instructions. Check all connections again. Reconnect the car battery's negative pole afterwards.

The DAB range has six station buttons, allowing up to 6 station assignments.

Calling up Station Information

Different information is displayed for each station.

d) Using the FM Radio

RDS as Reception Concept

“RDS” (Radio Data System) transmits additional inaudible coded information via RDS stations. The car radio evaluates this data.

Essential additional data transmitted:

Programme Identification (PI)

Helps the receiver identify a station and differentiate areas with the same programme. If the reception signal weakens, the car radio switches to a station with a stronger signal if it transmits the same programme with identical identification.

Traffic Programme (TP)

Enables the receiver to detect a station with a traffic programme.

Traffic Announcement (TA)

Allows the receiver to detect a traffic announcement and interrupt playback of a different audio source.

Programme Service (PS)

Indicates the station name (e.g., BAYERN 3) on the display.

Alternative Frequencies (AF)

A list of alternative frequencies for the same programme. If the received signal becomes too weak, the AF signal helps find a station with a stronger signal.

Programme Type (PTY)

Provides information about the programme type (e.g., sports, classic, news). A national disaster alarm can also be transmitted. Not all stations offer PTY service.

When leaving a transmission area, the RDS system switches to a better-received station with the same programme. The RDS system cannot eliminate short signal attenuations to prevent constant switching.

The station name is displayed on the car radio display.

e) USB/Memory Card Operation

The device has a USB port and an SD memory card reader. MP3 files stored on these media can be played.

? Do not connect an MP3 player operated with batteries to the USB port. The USB port's power supply can charge batteries, leading to overheating and potential explosion.

USB data carriers up to 64 GB with current consumption up to 500 mA can be connected. SD cards up to 64 GB are supported. All data carriers must be formatted in FAT 32.

MP3 players with a USB port may switch to PC mode when plugged in, which does not support music file playback. Connect the MP3 player's audio output to the AUX port (18).

f) Bluetooth® Operation

For optimum telephone reception and low electromagnetic radiation, use an external antenna when using a mobile phone.

Bluetooth® mode enables use as a hands-free set for mobile phones and/or as a playback device for Bluetooth® A2DP audio streaming. Pairing is required for data exchange.

Pairing

If pairing fails, repeat steps, first deleting the car radio from your mobile phone.

The car radio can only be paired with one Bluetooth® device at a time. Disconnect any other paired device first via mobile phone settings.

The connection is lost if either device is turned off or the mobile phone is moved too far. The Bluetooth® icon will flash. The connection re-establishes automatically when both devices are on and within range. The display (5) permanently shows the Bluetooth® icon.

Ensure automatic reconnection is enabled on your mobile phone; otherwise, the Bluetooth® connection will not re-establish automatically (refer to device manual).

Accepting/Declining an Incoming Phone Call

Call volume can be adjusted with the knob (10) during a call.

Audio Streaming

Audio streaming is Bluetooth® transmission of audio data (music) to the car radio.

11. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regularly check the technical condition of the car radio, e.g., for damage to connecting cables or housing.

? If safe operation is no longer possible, stop using the product immediately and prevent unauthorised use. Disconnect the vehicle electrical system!

a) Changing the Fuse

? If replacing the fuse, use only fuses of the specified type and rated current (see "Technical data"). Do not repair fuses or bridge the fuse holder.

b) Cleaning

Clean the exterior of the device only with a soft, dry cloth or brush.

? Never use aggressive detergents, rubbing alcohol, or other chemical solutions, as these may damage the housing or prevent proper functioning.

12. Troubleshooting

This car radio is designed for reliable operation. For problems and malfunctions, refer to the following explanations.

No playback, display and backlight are off

Playback only through one speaker

Playback only through the front or rear speakers

The device is muted in DAB mode

Unlike normal radio operation, DAB playback is muted when reception is poor due to reception interferences. This is often due to underdeveloped communication infrastructure, especially in rural areas, and is not a problem with the device.

No stations are received by the FM radio

Faulty radio, USB or SD memory card

When you press a station button, you only hear a hissing

The device does not respond to button presses and displays unintelligible characters
