Casio SPS-300 / GL-190 Watch User Manual
Module No. 2572, 2662
Important Information - Read First
This section provides crucial information regarding the operation and care of your Casio watch.
- Temperature Limits: Avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperatures.
- Handling: While designed for normal use, avoid rough handling and dropping the watch.
- Strap Tightness: Do not fasten the watch strap too tightly; a finger should fit between your wrist and the strap.
- Cleaning: Use a dry soft cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a soft cloth dampened with a mild neutral detergent solution. Never use volatile solvents like gasoline, thinners, or aerosol cleaners.
- Storage: Store the watch in a dry place when not in use.
- Chemical Avoidance: Prevent contact with gasoline, cleaning solvents, spray aerosols, adhesives, paints, etc., as these can cause damage to gaskets, the case, and polishing due to chemical reactions.
Battery
The battery installed at the factory may be discharged during delivery and storage. If the display becomes dim or characters are faint, replace the battery at an authorized CASIO service center or CASIO dealer.
Water Resistance
Your watch is classified by water resistance level (I to V) according to its protection against water. Refer to the table below to ensure correct usage.
Rating | Case Marking | Splashes, Rain, Washing | Swimming, Snorkeling | Scuba Diving |
---|---|---|---|---|
I | (No specific marking) | Yes | No | No |
II | WATER RESISTANT | Yes | No | No |
III | 50 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | No |
IV | 100 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes |
V | 200 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes |
V | 300 M WATER RESISTANT | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Notes:
- Rating I: The watch is not water-resistant. Avoid any contact with moisture.
- Rating II (WR / Water Resistant): Indicates water resistance according to ISO 2281. Short-term contact with water is acceptable.
- Rating III (5 Bar / 50 Meters): Suitable for showering and short periods of swimming.
- Rating IV (10 Bar / 100 Meters): Suitable for regular swimming and snorkeling.
- Rating V (20 Bar / 200 Meters): Suitable for scuba diving (excluding depths requiring helium-oxygen mixtures).
Care Instructions:
- Never attempt to open the case back or replace the gasket yourself.
- The rubber gasket, which protects the watch from water and dust, should be replaced every 2-3 years.
- If moisture enters the watch, have it checked immediately by a CASIO dealer or authorized service center.
Special Notes on Resin Bands and Fluorescent Parts
- Resin Band Care: Some resin bands may have silk-screened designs. Clean them carefully to avoid damaging these designs. A white powdery substance may appear on plastic bands; this is harmless and can be wiped off. Moisture or sweat can damage plastic bands over time; wipe them clean with a soft cloth when possible.
- Fluorescent Cases and Bands: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may cause the fluorescent color to fade. Prolonged contact with moisture can also cause fading. Wipe the watch dry immediately if it gets wet. Strong friction on fluorescent surfaces can transfer the color to other objects.
- CASIO Disclaimer: CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD. is not responsible for any damage or claims arising from the use of this watch.
- Condensation: In conditions of rapid temperature change, slight condensation may form on the inside of the glass. This is a normal physical phenomenon and not a defect.

- Manual Backlight: Pressing the 'L' button in any mode illuminates the display for 1 second, regardless of the auto-backlight setting.
Auto-Backlight Information
The auto-backlight activates for 1 second when the watch is tilted towards you at an angle of approximately 40 degrees, provided the ambient light is low. It will not activate in bright light.
- Ensure your hand is parallel to the ground and tilt the watch about 40 degrees towards you.
- The backlight may not activate if the watch face is tilted more than 15 degrees left or right.
- Static electricity or magnetic fields can interfere with auto-backlight function. If it doesn't work, try resetting the watch to its parallel-to-ground position, shake it gently, and tilt it again.
- Under certain conditions, the backlight may activate with a 1-second delay.
Caution: Do not read the watch display in the dark while climbing or in other hazardous situations, as it may lead to accidents. Do not read the watch while driving, cycling, or operating machinery, as it can be distracting and dangerous. Ensure auto-backlight is off when operating a vehicle.
Turning Auto-Backlight On/Off

- Pressing 'D' (+) or 'B' (-) adjusts the Dual Time in 30-minute increments.
Reference Information
Moon Phase Indicator
The moon phase indicator shows the current phase of the moon. The graph illustrates the visible portion of the moon.
- Moon Age: Displays the age of the moon in days (0 to 29).
- Moon Phase Graph: Shows the moon's appearance.
Moon Age and Phase: The moon's cycle is 29.53 days. The watch calculates moon age based on the moon's angular distance from the sun, which can result in a day's difference from the actual phase. The formula used is: Moon Age (days) = 29.53 x (angular distance to moon / 360°).
Tide Graph
The black segment on the graph indicates the current tide. Tides are periodic rises and falls of water levels caused by gravitational interactions between the Earth, Moon, and Sun.
- The tide graph displays water level changes based on the moon's position and the lunar tide interval.
- You must set the lunar tide interval for your location for accurate readings.
Lunar Tide Interval
This is the time from the moon's transit to the peak of high tide. Due to factors like viscosity and topography, the actual high tide occurs slightly later than the moon's transit. The lunar tide interval is crucial for accurate tide graph readings.
