Information on Moon Interval
The moon interval is the time from when the moon passes its highest point in orbit over your location until the time of high tide. If you know the moon interval, you can create a tide graph using the moon's age. This graph is generated by your watch according to the current time and set coordinates.
Calculating Moon Interval
- Determine the time of high tide for the location for which you want to generate a tide graph.
- Using your watch, find the time the moon passes its highest point in orbit over that location just before the time of high tide.
- Subtract the moon's highest orbital passage time from the high tide time to get the moon interval.
Tide Graph Mode
How to View Data for a Specific City
- In Current Time mode, press the "B" button to enter Multi-Time mode. The city selected as your local time will appear first on the screen.
- Press the "B" button to cycle through the data for up to 10 cities. The watch will then emit a beep and return to Current Time mode.
- While in Multi-Time mode, you can press the "C" button at any time to immediately return to Current Time mode.
Setting Local Time from Pre-programmed Cities
You can use the procedures described in "Setting Daylight Saving Time, GMT Offset, and City Name" and "Setting Latitude/Longitude, Moon Interval" to change the city name or other data for it.
Your watch comes with data for 10 cities pre-programmed around the globe. The data for each city includes an 8-character name, GMT offset, latitude and longitude, and moon interval. Setting the current time and date for any one city changes the time and date for all other cities accordingly. DST is set separately for each city. You can use the following procedure to select any of the ten cities as your local time.
Refer to the Time Zone Map at the end of this manual to learn more about the locations of the cities programmed into the watch when purchased.
How to Select a City as Local Time
- In Multi-Time mode, display the city you want to use as your local time, then press and hold the "D" button for two seconds.
Auto EL Backlight Function
Your watch uses an electro-luminescent panel for illumination, making the display easy to read in the dark. The watch also features an automatic backlight that activates when you turn your wrist towards you.
- To enable this function, it must be turned on (indicated by the AUTO ☼ indicator).
Notes:
- The backlight of your watch operates using electro-luminescent elements that lose power over a very long period of use.
- The backlight is difficult to see when direct sunlight falls on the watch.
- When the display is illuminated, the watch emits an audible beep. This is because the backlight elements are vibrating and does not indicate a malfunction.
- The backlight automatically turns off during audible signals.
Manual Backlight
- In Current Time mode, press the "D" button to illuminate the screen for two seconds.
- This operation illuminates the watch regardless of whether the Auto Backlight is on or off.
How to Activate Auto Backlight
When the Auto Backlight function is enabled, the backlight automatically turns on for two seconds as shown in the illustration below. The watch is not designed to be worn on the inside of the wrist. This may cause the Auto Backlight function to activate accidentally, reducing battery life.
Position your hand horizontally, then turn your wrist towards you at approximately a 40-degree angle. This will activate the screen backlight.
- The backlight automatically turns off after 2 seconds, even if you continue to hold your hand at the same angle.
- The backlight may not activate if your hand is tilted more than 15 degrees from the horizontal position, either left or right. Ensure your hand is parallel to the ground.
- Static electricity or magnetic fields can interfere with the proper operation of the Auto Backlight. If the Auto Backlight does not work, try returning the watch to its starting position (horizontal) and then turning it towards you again. If this does not help, shake your hand downwards vigorously and then return it to the starting position.
- Under certain conditions, the backlight may activate only 1 second after you perform the above actions. This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.
Warning!
- Do not attempt to read your watch in the dark while climbing a mountain or in other hazardous locations. This is very dangerous and may lead to injury.
- Do not attempt to read your watch while walking along a road or in areas with vehicle traffic. This is risky and may lead to an accident.
- Do not attempt to read your watch while riding a bicycle, or while operating a motorcycle or automobile. This is dangerous and may lead to an accident.
- Before operating a vehicle, check that the Auto Backlight function on your watch is turned off. Sudden, unintentional activation of the Auto Backlight could distract you and lead to an accident.
Turning Auto Backlight On/Off
In Current Time mode, press and hold the "D" button for one second to turn the function on (AUTO indicator on display) or off (indicator not displayed).
- The Auto Backlight indicator appears on the display in all modes when this function is on.
- To prevent rapid battery drain, the Auto Backlight function automatically turns off approximately 6 hours after its last use. To use the backlight again, repeat the activation procedure.
